this post has only existed for 8 days.
This is fantastic because it goes great with my theory that Delaware only exists for tax purposes. Like, all the states really only exists for Tax Purposes, but Delaware is particularly fake because back in 2012 I got lost in the Alleged Delaware Area looking trying to get to a family reunion, but every time I pulled over for directions, I would ask what the hell state I was in now, and I went through Mayland, Pennsylvania, New Jersey AND Virginia and I never fucking found Delaware but I did eventually find the Family Reunion and earned the repsepct of my then-prospective- Great-Grandmother-In-Law by saving her favorite grandchildren from a furious oceangoing horse so I’m convinced that not only is the state a purely legal construct, they didn’t even dedicate any landmass to it, or it’s a gov’t blackzone where the carnivorous horses live.

I can see for some people how its a happy ending. But it isn't. Not for Shane or Ilya. They are still deep in the closet in regards to work and friends. Ilya has Svetlana and Sacha but Shane has no one other than Ilya and Rose before this. Ilya's family doesnt support him. He literally only has Shane and his parents and Svetlana. Sacha essentially cut ties because Ilya didnt want to sleep with him, his brother is a Homophobic POS and his mum and dad are dead. They are alone on this island that feels miles away from other people and while it is comforting for a short moment as they discover what the island offers, its isolating. They've found a couple people for their island but the island is still empty of support.
They are going to face so much stigma and homophobia because its HOCKEY. Scott Hunter came out without having to be worried about having their efforts being questioned. Whether or not they threw any games to help the other win. He doesnt have to have every game played against his partner dissected by other people because his partner isn't in the same workplace.
Ilya and Shane have so much to do still before they get their happy ending. And im so worried that im going to see my friends and loved ones in their story. Im worried im going to see myself in their story.
Knowing that Hudson and Connor are acknowledging the fact that its not a happy ending that its very precarious is so reassuring that they understand the source material. They are invested in how the story is going to be viewed by people who haven't read the books.
