I highly respect this wonderful actor! His roles were amazing and I absolutely loved watching him bring a different side of Snart out in the Arrowverse when he returned from an alternate world to help the cast and was expecting his wedding with his boyfriend. It was just a heartwarming addition to the character I already loved.

the concept and idea of “you can always start trying to be a better person” is extremely important to me both in media and irl and i continue to be deeply deeply disturbed by the trend on this site pushing that these ideas in media are bad writing or even morally reprehensible

because theyd rather someone stay terrible or just straight up die than become a better person 

from a compassionate point of view it’s deeply distressing and from a pragmatic point of view it’s outright frustrating

I think part of the pushback about this is the idea that, to “redeem” bad people, their victims must first forgive them for unforgivable acts.

This is false. No one is obligated to forgive you. You can learn from your mistakes and become the best, kindest person on earth, and the people you’ve hurt still won’t forgive you, and you’ll have to accept that. And that doesn’t mean you aren’t allowed to grow. Because we aren’t just “pure” or “sinful”, we’re complex.

I for one can attest to this last addition. ^^^^ media leaves that bit out, and that’s most frustrating to me.

For other guilt ridden people I just wanted to rephrase it: if you are a human, you are bound to fuck up at some point. You won’t know better, you’ll hurt people. They don’t have to forgive you, they don’t owe you forgiveness. But despite that you can still keep going, you can keep growing, you can strive to be better person than you were yesterday. You don’t have to and shouldn’t hold onto your guilt and shame forever. Punishing yourself doesn’t help anyone, it’s not helpful and you’re just redirecting the guilt into pain, instead of a lesson. Be better, keep on working on yourself.
