When The Moon Hatched by Sarah A Parker

This was an enjoyable book. As a fantasy book it had a few great points like the world building but on the downside, it did get a bit confusing when every other chapter was from a different point of view.

In addition to that, there was some plot twists that were kind of obvious to a seasoned romance/fantasy reader but as a whole it was very well written and I'm definitely going to be reading the rest of the series when it comes out.

Under His Reign by Willow Winters

I enjoyed this book though not as much as some others that have fated mates and dragons in it. Its spicy enough that I enjoyed the book but I kinda of felt that that the spice overshadowed the plot. There are other books in the series so it's possible that I missed some of the plot points as I haven't read it.

Still a very enjoyable book to read.

No Romeo by Donna Alam

Arc Review

I loved this book. It's the first book i've read by this author and I don't regret it.

Evie is a fierce, kind heated animal vet who has a rough start to the book with cheating fiancé and a very dramatic wedding day. She, literally, falls into the lap of Oliver and sparks fly.

Add in the antics of Mr Bojangles and the book version of Longleat safari park and you get brilliant turns of phrase like 'Breasties before testes'

Flames of Ruin by Monique Shepherd

Vibe: Bruce Wayne/Batman as a mafia boss

I enjoyed this book so much. As a prequel it had me hooked and made me wonder if the the author was a DC comics fan as the vibe I got from the MMC was as Bruce Wayne/Batman but deadlier and as a mafia boss.

Either way, I fully intend to read the read of the series.

Fuck, Marry, Killed by Rhea Vynn

I went into this book thinking it was a romantic murder mystery and it turns out that it was more murder and mystery then romance, though there are elements of romance in the book.

for the first half of the book, I felt that the pacing was a bit off and then the 2nd half sped up fairly quickly.

There are clues as to who the killer is but they aren't very obvious so I struggled to reconcile who i thought was the killer with who the killer was.

it's still a decently enjoyable book.

The Silent Knight and The Last Knight by L.B. Martin (Knight Publishing series)

These were decent reads. When I started The Silent Knight, I didn't know that it was the second book in an four book series because it didn't feel like a second book.

Both books are enjoyable but I think I enjoyed The Silent Knight a little more, though The Last Knight did make me cry a little.

The Sight and Fell review by David Clement-Davies

These books are great. The Sight follows she wolf Larka as she fights against her nature as a wolf and as she fights against an ancient prophesy that allows her to discover the truth of Man.

Fell follows on from The Sight with Fell continuing the work that Larka started in her book. Fell is also Larka's brother, born in the same litter though his story is a little different in her book. It also deals with themes like survivor's guilt, anger and acceptance of one's own nature.

Boss Abroad Arc review by Rachel Kellar

I finished this book today and let me tell you, I was surprised it was a debut novel as I've read books by more established authors that were written way worse then this one.

It starts with April, an american dr who has pioneered a surgery, along with her mentor (bit iffy on those details), which shortens the recovery time (i think it's to do with ligaments or something like that) and the test subject for the surgery is a football player (soccer for americans). The owner of the football club wants a definite time/date for when his player can return to the field but April, headstrong that she is, declares that since this is the first ever surgery of it's kind, can't provide one which prompts the owner to declare that she's to accompany the football player back to London, which she reluctantly does.

On her arrival to the UK, her american bestie (who i love and hope she gets her own book) proceeds to arrange a Tinder date with a guy named Liam. While this is happening the MMC, Liam is arranging a faux date with an escort named April.

As you can imagine, identities get mixed up and Liam and April end up at his nearby hotel and proceed to have some VERY steamy first date sex that was quite riveting. The next day is day one at April's new job and thats when the hilarity ensues as Liam is under the impression that Dr April is an escort. She very nicely put him in his place and proceeds to educate him on just who she is in the best way possible, including leaving him with his trousers around his ankles.

Eventually, things get sorted and there's a HEA. I also look forward to Mia's book with Preston though i did think for 99.9% of the story that Noah would make a move at some point but he'll probably (hopefully) end up with April's best friend Callista.

Don't Tease Me by Renee Rose

This was a good read. It features an arranged romance between an ordinary hairdresser and Bobby, a made man in the mafia.

As expected, feelings develop until one decides that they are too much as breaks the others heart. Thankfully there is a happily every after with this one with the violence to a minimum.

Bewitched and Bespelled

I went into this series with high hopes as it had come highly recommended by a friend. While I love Selene and Nero, I'm still on the fence about whether or not I like Memnon. He's everything I love about MMC's in romances, right down to his morally grey heart and yet I still don't know if I like him or not. There will be a third book out next year and I will read it but I think I'll be coming back for my fur baby Nero because he stole my heart from the very beginning.

If you like witches with magic induced amnesia, black fur babies who can convey distain with just a look and an ancient warlord turned crime lord, then this is the book series for you.

Reviews going forward

In the next few months, I shall be reviewing slightly less as I will be attending a book signing convention. I have already read some of the attending authors but I have decided to hold off of reviewing them until I have met the authors and grabbed my (numerous) pre-orders. Pictures will be posted of the two day event as well as a overview of the signing.

June reads

This was another month of heavy reads but as they were good they were worth it. I usually read romance but I wanted to get back to some old favourites.

Each month I will be doing my favourite 5* reads of the month and this time there's two:

Property of the Mountain Man by Gemma Weir

Sinner's Anonymous by Somme Sketcher.

I get to meet both these authors in September at a book signing event so I also get to gush about their work.

Tackling Love

This sports romance set in America and follows Skye and Colt as they navigate love in the spotlight.

Colt is the typical sports athlete who tends to get his way until he meets Skye. They share an explosive one night stand that ends quite funnily when Skye kicks him out without a warning or without expressing a need to see him again, which of course makes him want her even more.

Very enjoyable first read by the author.

Firebringer

This is one of my favourite animal protagonist books which follows Red Deer Rannoch as he fights against an ancient prophecy that begins the night he is born and the night his father dies.

reminiscent of books like Watership Down it's one of the best anthropomorphic books I've read in my lifetime and this means that the author is one of the few male authors I will consistently return to

Throwing Shade

This book was great concept. It follows 30+ Miri as she navigatesthe re-emerging powers she'd suppressed as a child after a traumatic experience and of course it took a traumatic experience for her to unleash them again.

Miri has the awesome ability to control her own shadow but it of course comes with it's own drawbacks as well. It's still a handy ability to have though. Shenanigans ensue where Miri deals with Golums, werewolves and vampires while navigating being a single mother and trying to find her friend.

Sinners Anonymous

I read this book at the urging of the author's PA and she told me that it was a good book and I would enjoy it and she was right.

I thought it would be darker then it is but even in the darkest part of the book, it was still sweet and lovely.

I definitly need to know more about the two other brothers and I know that the second brother has his own books but it's the third brother i need to know more about the most because he's a complete mystery in this book.

Honestly though, i love the dynamic of Rory and Angelo.

Boudica: Dreaming the Serpent Spear

This is the final book in Breaca's journey as the world renowned warrior queen of the Eceni tribe.

Despite witnessing the rape of her daughters and despite being whipped almost to death, Breaca faces these hurdles and rallies the tribes of Ancient Britain to face the military might of Rome.

Manda Scott paints a vivid picture of a mother who just wants to make her home safe for her family and for future generations. All the story threads are neatly tied together to a satisfying degree. The author also gives a more satisfying death to Boudica then poison which is what the Romans say happened to this formidable warrior queen.
