Lake Michigan
Ocean*
I mean, Lake Michigan is big enough to be a sea. All the Great Lakes are, they’re not considered seas because they’re not all at sea level, they’re all freshwater, and they’re not directly connected to the ocean (they’re only connected through rivers and lochs)
Small lakes don’t have noticeable waves but because the Great Lakes are so big there’s enough room for the air to downdraft across it (which is also why in Michigan you get lake effect weather and so it can be a blizzard one day and 70° the next)
My grandmother, who grew up in Puerto Rico, when seeing Lake Michigan for the first time with my grandfather exclaimed, “This is not a lake, it is a sea!”
Lake Superior has tides. They’re not as dramatic as the actual ocean’s of course. But still. For every storm that kicks up 200ft spray and waves that crash over the tops of the lighthouses on the piers, there’s days when you can’t tell where the water meets the sky.
Lake Superior doesn’t have a monster, Lake Superior IS the monster.
lake superior (gichi-gami in ojibwe) has enough water in it cover both america’s in a foot of it. it contains 10% of the worlds fresh surface water! it’s 1333 ft deep!!! she’s Big
They say that she doesn’t give up her dead either.
Man living nearby all the great lakes when I first saw what Most people consider a lake, I thought it was just a super big pond kinda thing
There’s a reason why they’re called “great” lakes.
This is one of my favorite songs considering the lakes. I WILL become an old emotional seacaptian about the lakes so don’t try me
another thing about the lakes, superior especially, is that it’s anaerobic. There’s no oxygen down there. If you sink in her, you’re staying down there until the end of time. There’s no way to pull you up. You belong to her now
@kaijuno Just noticed you liked the wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald, so if you want another song to become an emotional ship captain of the great lakes to, I hiiiighly reccomend checking out White Squall by Stan Rogers! (And Northwest Passage by the same artist but that’s more about the trans-Canada explorers than specifically the great lakes)
i’ve decided. embarrassing parts of books are a million times worse than embarrassing parts of movies because you can’t look away or cover your face until it’s over you have no choice but to pay attention and endure that secondhand embarrassment with them.
Audacity Is Now A Possible Spyware, Remove It ASAP
The famous open source audio manipulation program was acquired by a company named Muse Group two months ago. The same company owns other pro
PSA: If you use Audacity, the new owners just updated the terms of service so they can collect data on you, including for very open-ended "legal enforcement"; and then sell it to "potential buyers" all without your consent
you should be fine if you dont update it to 3.0, but if you would like an alternative anyways, check out Dark Audacity
Exactly how I stare down my food waiting for it to cook in the microwave:
the real reason reyrose did not happen is because it would have taken twenty movies for rey to form a coherent sentence [ID: A three panel comic of the characters from the Star Wars sequels. Rose is holding Rey’s hands in her own, which are covered in grease. Rose says “You have really nice hands.” Rey flushes deeply, extremely flustered, “Thanks! I, uh, grew them! myself!” The scene cuts to Rey covering her face with both hands as she lays in a field with an amused looking Finn and Poe. Finn says, “To be fair to you, you did grow them yourself.” “Do not judge me, Finn,” Rey grumbles. “I’m not!” Poe cuts him off, “I am!” Rey grumbles, “I know, Poe.” “You’re so dumb!” Rey yells! “I know, Poe!” \END ID]
Once my boyfriend told me: "You're not a burden. A burden is something you're forced to carry against your will. I freely choose to be a part of your life and that means you aren't a burden to me." I'm passing it on in case some of you need to be reminded of that.
When we say abolish police, that also means take capitalism with it
The primary purpose of the police is to defend the owning class and capital. These companies are investing in the police because the police serve them directly
Remember this everytime you see people attack retailers during riots and strikes. If you’re compelled to cry about ‘looters’, stop and shut your goddamn mouth instead.
Capitalism and state (the cops) are inextricably intertwined. You cannot be anti- one but pro- the other.
the only reason cops are at pride now is to intimidate gay people into not making it a riot again and i will stand by that fact until the day i die
If the occasion should arise and I attend a pride festival, I would also like it to not become a riot.
imagine being this guy
arent they there? to stop any attacks from the anti lgbt groups?? yknow the ones that ALWAYS gather there???
contrary to what this newer generation of lgbt people think, cops are a new addition to prides. only within the past 10/20 years have they actually started “protecting” pride. aka standing around and intimidating the general public. historically, lgbt people have protected ourselves and eachother during pride events. from police in a lot of cases actually. ive been to pride events where the anti lgbt protesters were the ones being “protected” from the pride crowd… the cops arent there for us. theyre there to boost the image of the police force and make us think they care. the only people who feel safe around cops are the classes that they are meant to protect and people who are uneducated about police. (theres a heavy overlap as well.) you may feel safe around cops but many people do not. theyre literally dogs to the upper class.
In hamilton ontario the cops let neo nazis attack people and said they didnt help because people didnt want them there
I was at NYC Pride a couple of years ago and a massive section of the main route was completely dedicated to cops. The sight of a prison bus driving by with rainbow flags on it made me sick. That was the year that Toronto Pride asked the police not to bring guns to pride. And so the NYPD invited them to our parade, marching through and proudly brandishing their guns. Back at the Stonewall Inn, people who were protesting the commercialization of Pride were beaten by police. I used to buy some of what the commenters above are saying about protection, but after seeing all of that Pride needs to be anti cop.
they literally just showed up and arrested pride participants like a handful of days ago after being told they weren’t welcome
Reconstructions made from the ancient skeletons found at archeological sites:
The Whitehawk Woman. She lived in England around 5,000 years ago and was buried with great care. She was also buried with a newborn infant, and died aged between 19 and 25 years old. Researchers believe she died during or very soon after childbirth. Her bones indicate she was otherwise in good health.
Adelasius Ebalchus. He lived in Switzerland 1,300 years ago, and was in his late teens/early twenties at the time of his death. His gravesite indicated he came from wealth, and his bones showed he was well-nourished. His bones also showed that Adelasius suffered a lingering infection; archeologists believe he most likely died from lung inflammation.
The Slonk Hill Man was found semi-crouched in a grave near the seaside town of Brighton, England — in the same area as the Whitehawk Woman. Their lives, however, were separated by nearly 3,000 years. The Slonk Hill Man lived during Britain’s Iron Age. The reconstruction artist (an archeologist and sculptor) described him as being “very good looking”, tall, muscular, and in robust health at the time of his death. There were no obvious signs of what caused his death.
The Wari Queen. She was found in 2012 by a Polish-Peruvian archeology team, entombed in an underground mausoleum in El Castillo de Huarmey, Peru. She lived approximately 1200 years ago and died in her sixties. Her bones indicate she led a leisurely life, and her decayed teeth indicate a diet high in sugar (most likely she regularly drank the sugary corn-based beer, chicha). Other artefacts in her chamber suggest she was an expert weaver — a very highly-valued craft.
If you follow Selmers to the poetry society meeting in Night In The Woods, this is her poem. I loved it and the themes of the game, and wanted to use it as practice to see if i can control the way readers ‘hear’ the words through images.
are yall ok
You're all so clinically stupid, and I mean that from the bottom of my heart.
Where is the disconnect here because it's the same parents teaching girls how to shower that are teaching guys how to shower
Remember when Jeff Bezos, who is worth 181 billion USD donated 690k to stopping Australian fires? Yeah, me too.
McKenzie Scott is literally proof that these fuckers can donate HUGE sums of money to EVERYTHING and still live a comfortable life.... But nooO someone HAS to justify the pitifully small donations the richest men on earth make every year for their tax write-off
Some also important context (this is June 2021, after her second round of grants was announced), as well:
[image description: tweet from Dan Price, the Seattle business owner who doesn’t take a massive salary and pays everybody at his company really well: “Two years ago, she had $36 billion. Since then, she has donated $8 billion - more than anyone in the world. She is now worth $60 billion. I think people struggle to understand just how fast wealth accumulates for the super-rich. She literally can't give it away fast enough.”.]
She should bankroll unionization efforts at Amazon; really piss in the old man’s cornflakes.
ooooh yes

theres something cool about how tyler oakley still regularly uses this site. when thebootydiaries is just in an endlessly repeating 2016 queue, when dan & phil & jacksepticeye & seth everman have all migrated completely to twitter, when markiplier & john green have been reduced to just "classic tumblr" memes, when the rest were all banned for being russian spies. i have no idea what tylers up to these days but i appreciate that he's still here just being a regular ass tumblr user.
