Day into night shifts always felt longer than they actually were. Rosie would catch glimpses of time passing: the sun setting, the sky growing dark, but the time seemed so spaced out and elongated in comparison to reality. Now, all she wanted to do was go home, crawl into bed, and sleep for a millennium. At least the roads were empty... She was almost at the less than luxury Alcott’s Luxury Apartment complex when the sky exploded with blinding white light.
Rosie slammed on her breaks, jerking forward before her seat belt slammed her back into her chair. What the hell?? She squinted, trying desperately to see. Almost as quickly as the light had came it faded, plunging Braddock into darkness. She could barely see a thing- she couldn’t tell if that was from the quick change in light, or if it really did seem darker than it had been before. But it wasn’t just the darkness. Something didn’t feel right- her head felt lighter and the air felt strange. After a moment to regain focus, she sped the rest of the way back to the apartment. Maybe someone there would know.
With shaky hands, Kass carved an array in the attic floor. Vincent was dead--just like Evelyn and, very likely, her parents. There was no one left in town that would give a shit, except Vince’s best friend, Logan. She had to tell him. Drawing an even shakier breath, Kass charged the array and muttered the incantation. The array glowed and flashed as it delivered her to her intended destination--or rather, almost delivered her to her destination. Instead of appearing in the lobby of the Lofts, she stood before the Alcott apartments.
“Fantastic,” The witch grumbled. She stuffed her hands in her pockets and began walking in the Lofts’ direction, but froze in her tracks as the blinding light erupted from the mountain, fading into an ominous green haze as a massive breach opened. Kass stood, utterly transfixed on the new fixture in the sky, she almost allowed herself to be run over by a quickly approaching vehicle. She stumbled out of the way just in time.
“I’m so sorry, I didn’t mean to--” She tapered off as she caught a glimpse of the driver. “Rosie holy shit are you alright? Did you see that?!” She added, gesturing wildly at the sky.
