Synergy links in P5X are disjointed
I am a massive Persona 5 X fan. It's the game that really got me into Persona beyond reading Akechi x Joker fics. I adore the premise and relatively low-stakes villains because for me they emulate how someone's last straw can be hugely inconsequential from an outside perspective but life-ruining to the person experiencing it. Everyday menaces digging away at peoples' will to live has this creeping sense of dread when I think about it, and I love that. The game starting with someone attempting suicide and the MC feeling a sense of total apathy and a general wrongness for feeling that apathy was so intriguing. I was really looking forward to seeing everyone in that state of apathy/depression and having Nagisa in his Persona-awakened state defeating those last straws and helping the people around him recover.
Except that didn't happen. I'm a lore player, and as such I am stuck at the second palace boss, so I haven't seen a lot of the main story. What I have seen plenty of, though, are the synergy link storylines. And they feel like they're happening in a parallel dimension where everything is fine, aside from Motoha's persisting guilt about continuing her passion for sports when she feels like she ruined the futures of two people. Besides her and I'm guessing whoever else ends up joining the party, the synergy links all happen with people who are mentally right as rain. Good for them of course, I wasn't expecting depression for the sake of character torture, but it doesn't make sense story-wise. Everyone Nagisa makes bonds with already have determination within them just like him, and I'm not in any way advocating for Nagisa to develop a savior complex or something similar, but I feel like it would make more sense to purposefully befriend people on their last straw to make sure nothing bad happens, even if it comes at the cost of powerful phantom idols.
The closest we get to the gut-punch of the attempted suicide in the very beginning is having a synergy link with someone related to that girl. That conversation is what fully tipped me off to why the interactions felt so off. They're alluding to people being depressed and apathetic but don't show it in the people we interact with. Once again, good for them, but not good for the cohesiveness of the overall story being told.
I'm aware that this is the fault of it being a free-range gacha game with no hard-set time limits, so they can't tie in where you're at in the main story and the progress Nagisa and the other Thieves have made in restoring people's hope when using that format. I will still complain because I love the lore of the main story and not being able to continue it has me stuck in synergy link hell.

Merope & Wonder… haven’t played the game in a while, but I love these two’s designs so much !!
When it comes to Sans as the Royal Scientist's assistant/being part of the team, a lot of content I used to see would be angsty. "Sans was there when Gaster was split, or maybe not, but no matter the case he's the only one in the Underground who still remembers Gaster fully and holding that weight made him quit the team," and it seems so plausible that that's the truth because of the other perception of Sans that he remembers each timeline and reset and what happened in them. If he can remember past timelines then it wouldn't be a stretch to think he'd remember someone who previously existed in those timelines, especially if it was someone he knew or worked with personally.
Currently, I'm no longer a preteen watching "Undertale reacts to Sans angst | neutral run" gacha reaction videos and "Sans is Depressed" analyses, and know without Sans hype clouding my vision that 1. he's still awesome, and 2. he doesn't remember past timelines. He knew the player through Frisk was messing with time thanks to his sciency machine going off the charts and deduced what was happening and that we were the cause in the same way Flowey realized when we wouldn't run into his friendliness pellets. Because of that, the theory that he used to be on the Royal Scientist's team but quit due to the burden of knowledge falls apart rather fast.
That being said, Sans being on the Royal Scientist's team is something I still personally believe in because of his science room and infinite joke book and contained localized tornado and space-and-time powers and the picture of him and several people who the player through Frisk has never seen before found in the science room (who I believe are other members of the Royal Scientist's team, possibly Gaster's Followers) and the gaster blaster in the True Lab and gaster blasters in general. There's too much pointing toward it, which means there's simply a similar but less angsty reason for it.
I believe that Sans was indeed a part of the past Royal Scientist's team, maybe not his assistant but still part of the group when photos were taken. The past Royal Scientist had some kind of connection to Sans, maybe they were friends or good acquaintances, which was the main reason for Sans being employed there despite his other job of being a sentry of the Royal Guard. Because of this, when the past Royal Scientist fell into the core and was scattered and erased, Sans forgot about him just like the rest of the Underground who didn't become corrupted or warped (although Sans as a Gaster Follower would be a cool au concept). And since his main reason for being on the team no longer existed, Sans was no longer on the team.
I don't believe Sans would be aware he'd ever been on the team in the first place. Maybe he's still friends with the others which is why he has the photo and maybe he's always had a knack for science which explains why the science room and joke book and tornado are still around, but in his mind he was never a part of the Royal Scientist's team and in unaware of the past Royal Scientist's general existence. Kind of sad, but you can't be sad over something you don't remember if you're unaware that you don't remember it. Ignorance is bliss, and all that jazz.
I used to believe with all my heart and soul that Varian’s jail sentence was too harsh. He was sent to prison for presumably a life sentence before he broke out while the thief kids and Cassandra got off practically scott-free. Then I thought about the world the show is set in.
I will always hold the opinion that Disney shows made as sequels to movies always ruin the worlds they’re set in. The characters from the movie are made into caricatures of themselves and the lore is changed so much for plot’s sake that it’s nearly unrecognizable. An example of this would be Big Hero 6 the series, wherein I remember an episode where Hiro goes bot fighting again. His friends are all harsh with telling him to stop while he’s being secretive about enjoying it. If the characters retained their personalities and relationships from the movie, that would not be the case. Hiro’s friends in the movie supported him regardless of whether he continued bot fighting or not, and they were able to make jokes about him being an ex-bot fighter because of it. Hell, Callahan’s daughter was a bot fighter and it seemingly had no impact on her life or future, seeing as she was able to graduate college and get a nice job at the competitor’s company.
Because of the severity of character death and bastardization, the world and its lore changing is moreso overlooked, even though it’s just as bad, if not worse. Using Big Hero 6 the series as an example yet again, the movie was all about superpowers through scientific means. It was realistic for the world the movie was set in. The series, however, featured villains that veered more into supernatural territory. Cyborgs and Death Stroke are fine, even though the movie didn’t hint to things like that being possible, but villains who conduct electricity from a weird orb? You’ve lost me.
Another great example of world lore bending for a series’ plot is Tangled the series. Specifically, the Corona kingdom’s code of law.
In the movie, Flynn Rider was a thief. He stole the royal princess’ crown and was sentenced to the gallows. And of course the argument could be made that Eugene had stolen a bunch of other stuff before that and was most likely already wanted dead or alive, but the crux of the matter is that all of his crimes were thievery. He never harmed anyone or attempted to, but he would’ve been killed anyway because Corona’s code of law was that harsh.
Compared to Eugene almost getting hanged, Varian and Cassandra both got off way too easily. Both of them actively tried to cause harm to the people of Corona and especially the Royal family. Varian in particular tried to murder the entire royal family in cold blood, not to mention drugging the royal guard, drugging and kidnapping the queen, stealing “the most powerful” artifact in the all the seven kingdoms, terrorizing the citizens with a giant monster and automatons, etc. etc. If Flynn Rider in the Tangled movie was sent to the gallows for stealing, Varian should have been killed several times over even if he was “just a child” as King Frederick would put it.
So why weren’t Varian and Cassandra both put on death row for what they did? Because of the show’s target audience. Tangled the series is a kids show, so obviously the rating and things shown must be for kids. This is another reason why Disney sequel shows feel disjointed from their movies, because the tone and sometimes content has to be watered down and filtered for a more focused audience scope. Adults aren’t the ones who will be generating the most cash for these shows, so they can’t put in adult content like the death penalty.
Varian’s sentence wasn’t too harsh, it’s simply that everyone in the show got off too easily. Their punishments were not proportionate to their crimes in comparison to the movie. Imagine if Flynn Rider also just got a jail sentence. A lot of the stakes in relation to it would be lost.
Happy birthday to Blackleg Sanji, in celebration of his birthday I will be transcribing what I wish I could say about him before my friends cut me off 😌😌
If he eats half as well as he cooks, I’d be cumming in T-minus 10 seconds
If he were real, I’d spread my legs so fast, hips raised, arms sturdy, ready to take it like a good girl
I’d welcome his blood in my mouth, if we were making out and he got a nosebleed I’d lap it up like a dog and thank him
I know he’d never do it because I’m a woman, but if he insulted me I’d get down on my hands and knees and beg forgiveness, and when he’d refuse I’d cling to his leg and start crawling my way up his body and hopefully at least get to his pants’ waistline
I’ve never found overstimulation comfortable, but I’d let him rail me until I pass out, until the condom bursts, until he and I both have nothing left to give, and I’d still roll him over so I could bounce on it
I’d take anything from him, no matter how rough or gentle it is, they’re gonna have to clean the entire ship when we’re through
I’d love to suck him off but I don’t think it would fit in my mouth, but I’d still try my best not to waste the wonderful meal I’d have been given, I bet he’d taste amazing I’d swallow all of it
I’d love to fill a bath or pool with his semen and just swim in it, then do a mukbang
I’m a sex-repulsed asexual, but for Sanji I’m dropping my panties and shoving my boobs in his face, big fat whore alert right here
(I bet he’d know where the clit is and how to tease me to begging)
It feels good to get it out of my system, happy birthday to Blackleg Sanji of the Strawhat Pirates!!!!!
"Is somebody gonna match my freak" but it's just Tamon "I'll sell my organs if you can just text me every once in a while" Fukuhara and Utage "Tamon-kun's organs belong in his godly body and are also priceless and can thus never be sold at market rate" Kinoshita
this is what i mean when i say utage filters everything through an outsider pov and then attempts to apply that incorrect outsider pov as her own perspective within her own life and interpersonal relationship(s) btw. thinking she's overstepping and then making up scenarios where she gets publically witch-hunted for talking to someone she knows and is even - although she'd deny it - friends with after they happened to run into each other in public...
talking to tamon is the most normal thing she could've done; once again, tamon's read on their dynamic is far more grounded here. he recognizes that they are people who know each other and therefore it's normal to say hi when they run into each other. it's utage that has this consistently overblown reaction that once again - she doesn't simply rationally weigh, she fully internalizes.
Making Poems in DDLC is so Funny in Concept, Actually
Logically I know that picking the words for a specific member means emulating their writing style and not that the protagonist is actually including the words in whatever poem he writes to get closer to one of them by writing about things they like or are going through, but it's also really funny to think of it in the latter way:
Monika: Wow [MC], your writing is the same as Sayori's! You must influence each other a lot, being childhood friends and all :)
Protag:
Protag's Poem: raincloud, hurt, fear, grief, pain, sadness, shame, defeat
Protag: suurrreee. do you know where Sayori is btw?
*Taps at your window, and stares at you like I'm in Monitoring*
Do you know what I noticed?
Every DDLC ship, including the MC ones, is doomed in someway.
Like, give me a ship and I'll (gladly) explain.
Okay but I'm actually so intrigued by this. Like obviously if we're viewing this through the lens of the game and the arc of the gameplay itself everyone is doomed, they'll all get deleted one way or another and the the mc isn't even real. But now I'm wondering if this holds up in the narrative of the game? If we look at only the characters and setup, if Monika weren't aware or if it wasn't a game to begin with. Without the meta and hacking and game files, would everyone still be doomed? Are the characters' circumstances by themselves enough to doom every relationship, or is it merely the exacerbation of those circumstances that causes everything to eventually fall apart???
Edit idea I want to see before I die that I would make myself if I had the time or inherent skill to learn how to edit well
Fandom: Tamon’s B-Side
Song: Goodbye, My Danish Sweetheart (Mitski)
Tamon:
And I don't blame you if you want to
Bury me in your memory, I'm not the girl I ought to be
But maybe when you tell your friends
You can tell them what you saw in me, and not the way I am
Utage:
And I don't mean to make your heart blue
But could we be what we're meant to be? I'm just about to beg you, please, and
Then when you tell your friends
You can tell them what you saw in me, and not the way I used to be
