Under the Moon and Stars

“Why do you shiver so? Does water so shallow truly make you tremble or perhaps you simply can’t contain your eagerness at seeing my magnificent form again?” Laezel sneered at Shadowheart, pulling her out into the shallow cove from the shore- but there was no bite to her words, and the hand in Shadowhearts’ own was gentle, encouraging.

She couldn’t deny either, the moving water of the chionthar swirled away into pitch nothingness, and outside this inlet, the water was moving swiftly. But the thumping of her heart against her ribs had more to do with the light spilling over the beautiful lines of Lae’zels body. The taught ropes and planes of muscle meeting a few soft curves here and there. Her back muscles were enough to drive anyone to distraction. The warmth low in her belly was enough to distract her from the cool water splashing just below her knees.

“More like I was contemplating that upturned bat snout of yours,” she prodded back, echoing one of their oldest conversations.

Laezel whirled to look at her, gaze intense, ready for a verbal sparring match, but before she could even “Chk!” She slipped on a slick stone in the river bed and she fell into Shadowhearts arms who stepped up to catch her. Their skin was warm together where it touched. As Laezel regained her feet, she didn’t move away, keeping their chests and bellies pressed together, and Shadowheart found herself encircling the other woman’s waist.

Their eyes met as their heads drifted in, cheeks lit by the moon and stars overhead. Laezels hands circled her shoulders, brushing back her slightly fried freshly bleached out hair over her ear. “Still better than that large… fleshy… mistake.” She whispered, grinning, eyes on shadowhearts lips before closing the distance and kissing her.
