The 72-year-old British actor also had roles in shows including Merlin and Little Britain.
British actor Anthony Head, best known for his roles in TV shows including Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Ted Lasso, Merlin and Little Britain, has died at the age of 72. Head found international fame as Rupert Giles in hit supernatural teen show Buffy in the late 1990s. He went on to have a recurring role in sketch show Little Britain, play king Uther Pendragon in the BBC's Merlin, and appear as former football club owner Rupert Mannion in Ted Lasso. "He passed away peacefully of complications due to pneumonia, surrounded by his family," his daughters Emily and Daisy said. His daughters' statement said "it is with heavy hearts that we announce the death of our extraordinary father". They added: "It has been, and forever will be, an honour and a privilege to be his daughters, and to have witnessed firsthand the impact both he and his work have had on so many." They also said they knew "how dearly he will be missed by friends, colleagues and fans of the show he was in", adding that he "loved his job very much" and "always considered himself incredibly lucky". His family acknowledged that "his legacy will live on" and said they considered themselves "lucky" to have watched him doing what he loved throughout his career. Head's other credits included The Iron Lady, Persuasion, The Inbetweeners and Manchild.
RIP anthony head, you will be missed.
I saw a screenshot of some AI gen (or photoshop idk) of Doctor who supporting Nigel Farage, and it pissed me off so much I drew him punching that stupid fucker in the head.
New painting of Katarina 🖤🤍🖤
I want a Turlough and Adric crossover story. I want Turlough to be separated from the Doctor during an adventure; maybe he gets cast into an errant time stream or maybe he just loses his way on an unfamiliar planet. In any case, he winds up bumping into Adric who also got lost during an adventure.
I want them to initially hate each other. Adric thinks himself superior to Turlough, or at least more in control of the situation. He's the one saving Turlough. Meanwhile, Turlough doesn't care for this proud, smartass kid. He's had enough of annoying teenage boys, and hates babysitting one as they traverse a strange land. Maybe he initially pegs Adric as a 'Hippo' type, until Adric actually saves Turlough by bravely stepping in to mitigate a potentially lethal blow.
I want them to bond. I want Turlough to start liking the kid, because he's so brave and earnest and he's like an annoying little brother that Turlough misses dearly. Meanwhile, Adric sees Turlough as a rather odd outsider, which is something he can relate to. He's probably just happy to have someone around who doesn't mind him, who's actually paying attention to him. When Turlough teases him, he gets the feeling that it's not out of cruelty or malice.
I want Turlough to teach Adric how to sketch as they take a break together. Taking out a small pocket sketchbook and a pencil, showing him how even something as subjective as art still has principles and guidelines. I want Adric and Turlough to talk about space technology, and I want them to explore their surroundings in a way that speaks to both of their intelligences.
And in the end, I want them to part reluctantly. Adric promises that they'll see each other again. Turlough knows they never will. And he never tells the Doctor who he saw while he was away, but suddenly the man’s solemnity and grief makes a lot more sense.
The episode fades directly from Salamander to Two and the difference between these two is incredible.
I love the era of Classic Who with Jamie and the Second Doctor because to everyone they encounter it seems like Jamie is the reasonable level headed one with his dry wit and his exasperation at Two’s inability to drive, compared to Two’s silliness and clumsy fumbling of switches and artifacts. But then something happens and they just see Jamie go absolutely berserk. Everything will be chill and then it’s like
Someone: “You all are now my prisoners. But I’m a reasonable man, so if you all just cooperate I may-“
Jamie, charging: [McCrimmon War Cry]
Hello Doctor
Patrick Troughton in Doctor Who & behind the scenes.
Extremely attractive man.
“Otherwise, it’s interesting how much people dismiss Troughton’s performance as Salamander as “comic turn” - is it because he’s putting on a funny accent? - but I think he’s rather more magnificent than that. He shapes his face to fit the part - his upper lip is drawn back, flat and terse; his lower jaw is stiffened; and even his cheeks contrive to be sleeker, less baggily humorous. Troughton also simultaneously endows Salamander with a coldness and burning intelligence - just look at that superb final close-up, as his eyes dart about whilst his brain weighs up the implications of Bruce’s confused claim that he met with “you… or, someone like you.” Contrast this with the Doctor’s lovely wistful mourning of some broken crockery and his (ad-libbed, one suspects) line about there being enough air in the box in which he’s hiding, and you can tell that this isn’t just an actor showing off. There’s a real sense we’re dealing with two different characters.”
— Rob Shearman, speaking of Patrick Troughton’s dual role as the Doctor and as Salamander in the serial ‘Enemy of the World’ in Volume One of “Running Through Corridors” (via ladyyatexel)
theyre so cute i cant
the macra terror thoughts
- creepy big crab creatures!
- i completely forgot that the macra were brought back in gridlock until a clip appeared from the episode when i was trying to find the surviving clips
- the whole thing and especially the singing was giving me eerie stepford wives vibes
- jamie just going into the highland fling. you can take the boy out of scotland…
- i’m starting to understand twojamie shippers and why it’s such a popular ship (i’m personally not a fan of any doctor/companion in general but i get it)
- i really loved this one! my favourite troughton story so far.
jamie mccrimmon ?
JAMIE MCCRIMMON!
we had Ncuti Gatwa as Dr Who and the show fumbled him harder than anyone has ever fumbled anything in the history of the world never forget that and never ever forgive russell t davies for that
funniest dw scene is when the doctor and zoe are watching this wave of lava coming towards them all smiling and in awe meanwhile jamie’s all uhhh hey maybe we should move out of the way of the lava and the doctors all nah it’s fine we’re in the tardis totally safe. and jamie’s all well has the tardis ever been submerged in lava before and the doctors all… no and jamie’s all WELL MAYBE WE SHOULD MOVE JUST IN CASE THEN
being a 60s Dr Who fan is so hard. like hello I'm writing a fanfiction to explore this character's trauma. Yeah his trauma from when he was imprisoned on Mechanus. From when he was imprisoned on Mechanus by the Mechanoids. Stop laughing at him.
