I ran into this post years ago and to be honest, it has completely reoriented the way I engage with food.

Like. I’ve always sorta understood that things grow moldy or stale or sour or such if left out, but I never really internalized it in a meaningful way.

But now I’m just like.

Yeah. The hungering dust. There exists omnivorous dust in the air that will eat my food if I don’t.

Those bagels have been sitting there for a week. Are we going to eat them soon or are we leaving them for the hungering dust?

Pizza’s been sitting out on the counter for an hour. Everyone’s enjoying the pizza, but if we don’t want “everyone” to include the hungering dust then we should probably put it away soon.

That’s just. That’s how food works to me now. There exists an invisible predator in the air that hungers for your yummies, and it will not hesitate to eat your food if you don’t make the effort to protect and preserve it. And eat what can’t be preserved before the dust can.

one of my dogs favorite things to play with is a rainbow fan. which i bought since you know, I live in Brazil. But it’s hers now. How does one play with it? By opening and closing it in front of her. Sometimes she bites it, but she drops it right after because there is no fun for her in catching the fan, only on seeing it open and close or watch me dance around with it. She barks, runs, jumps, all while wiggling her tail very happily. She also gets jealous of it so now this fan is really pretty much hers.

and ever since i found out she likes to play like this (almost 2 months ago) it still hasn’t broken, it only has very few holes. If i close it and don’t open it again, she starts crying. it absolutely activates her zoomies. After a while she gets so tired i start fanning her so she cools down a little and she really enjoys that too, usually settling for some back scratching and fanning like the queen that she is

we’re still playing with it! It has a lot of holes in it now, and I bought myself another fan for my own use but sometimes I also play with her with both

she needs to exercise but she doesn’t really enjoy going on long walks, so what I’ve been doing is running around our home, fan in hand, so she chases me and exercises. and that actually works. by the end of it we’re both tired

today she barked at me every time I got tired and stopped, as if it would motivate me, and as usual, we played until we were tired, and then I fanned her

lately she has been enjoying having me chasing her around the house after with the fan in hand and then catching her… like a game of tag. she’s been jumping around a lot as well and barking at me as we play, and I’m noticing that she’s been really happy and more active after we started doing this strange game with a rainbow fan on a daily basis

my mom said she looks like stitch whenever she is tired after we play and now I can’t unsee it

Anyway. Happy pride! She’s truly an ally and I love her
