I forgot there even WAS a con today
pov you're the spn fandom and it's september 5, 2021.
the theme that always resonates me the most in stories is “the world is cruel; therefore I won’t be.”
If you're ever asking an autistic person to do something, be sure to explain why you want them to do it.
When I was a kid, I always kept the windows open when it rained. I saw no reason to close them even though my mom kept asking me to. She never gave a reason, so I never listened. She'd say it let the rain in and I'd think "no shit" and continue to keep them open. Eventually, she explained that it could cause mold. That made sense to me, so I started closing the windows. Simple as that.
When we first got cats, they kept jumping onto the counters. Once again, I saw no issue with this. My mom kept chasing them down and I couldn't figure out why. She'd get annoyed whenever I let them stay up there. Once she told me that it was unsanitary, I thought that made sense so I stopped letting them stay on the counter.
To an outsider (and probably to my mom at the time) it may have seemed like I didn't understand the instructions or was being intentionally difficult. But I can't just follow an order without a reason. I must decide for myself if the order makes sense before I follow it, and I need the logic behind it to do that.
So if you're asking an autistic person to do something, explain why it needs to be done. It's very hard for a lot of us to override that part of our brains.
Not to detract from this being about autism but this is something everyone always should have practiced all the time with everybody. “Because I said so” isn’t a valid reason to listen to anyone; not a parent, not a partner, not a boss or a cop or a whole government.

Okay, i'll say it: i do not like Sylki's dynamic being romantic in spite of them being the Variants of the same being.
No, i like them being in a romantic relationship because they are the Variants (well, this is one of the reasons i love them together).
First of all, i have said it countless times, there is nothing in the real world that could be in any way comparable to the relation that the alternative universe versions of the same being would have. THIS IS A PURELY MADE-UP, SPECULATIVE, FICTIONAL CONCEPT.
Hypothetically speaking, if there really was such a thing, then we still would have to come up with the brand new and specific attitudes towards such occurrences because there is no already existing equivalent for them. They are the Variants of the same being but two completely different people on DNA, genetic and molecular levels. WHAT THEY DO SHARE IS THE SAME SOUL. So, in our world's standards, they would be considered to be the two pretty much unrelated people. BUT AGAIN, MEETING THE ALTERNATIVE UNIVERSE VERSION OF ONESELF IS NOT A REAL THING!
Moving on, why do i like the idea of Sylki in this aspect? Well, i am a huge SciFi and Mythic Fiction nerd. Oh my, i can't describe how much i love these genres (i was basically raised on Star Trek, then took like, 5 different courses on Mythology). I also believe that mixing these genres up has a huge potential but it is incredibly difficult.
However, the creative team of Loki managed to do exactly this and they did it perfectly. How? By making Sylki romantic. Loki and Sylvie's love story tied together SciFi and Mythology in the most deliciously perfect way (why not make their relationship platonic? Romance works better as a metaphor bcs it has more intense implications).
Their dynamic is the most perfect way to explore the concept of the Soulmates in Mythology inspired SciFi.
This is only one aspect of their relationship. I love Sylki for many other reasons besides them being the Variants thus exploring SciFi.esque possibilities of romance and having parallels with mythology. This pairing is very multilayered. You could just love it for multiple different reasons: Loki learning to love selflessly, Sylvie meeting someone who cares about her (for the very first time in her life), them being Enemies to Lovers, Soulmates, this somewhat being a Hurt/Comfort relationship, them being a bisexual pairing.
Besides, their relationship was developed very well. It is a slow-burn in spite of Loki having only 6 episodes. The way they delivered the love story relied on the Female Gaze and subtle hints as well as the incredibly believable performances and the magnetic chemistry between the actors.

Good post OP
Good post, OP, and if you ever decide to do another may I please suggest “NOT IN HEBREW IT DOESN’T” as a punchline? So much of the Old Testament is HORRIFICALLY translated from the Tanakh, it drives me batty.
WAIT WAIT WHAT DOES IT SAY?????? I NEED TO LIKE,, DESTROY MI MUM FOR BEING REALLY HOMOPHOBIC
Okay, so, strictly speaking, the infamous Leviticus 18:22 does say “forbidden.” Here’s the thing:
1) The word translated as “forbidden” is “toevah.” While that translation isn’t … wrong, it’s sort of like saying “McMansion” means “really big house.” There are a lot of connotations in that word. The specific issue with toevah is that we … sort of … don’t know anymore exactly what it meant. Based on context, it seems likely that the word referred to something ritually forbidden. This part of Torah was written not only as a guide for future generations, but also to say “so, look around, see your neighbors? DON’T DO THAT.“ Thus, if we interpret “toevah” to mean something that’s forbidden to do as a ritual before G-d, then the verse says nothing whatsoever about Adam and Steve and their two kids and their dog–it’s saying you shouldn’t have sex with another man in the Temple as a sacrifice.
2) Following the same “this is ritually forbidden” logic of toevah, this verse may also be interpreted as “don’t do sex magic,” which was a thing in. Like. A lot of fucking cultures at the time.
3) Hebrew is a highly gendered language, and the grammatical gender in this verse is really really weird. One of the “men” in this verse is given female grammar. Why? Who fucking knows, man, this isn’t the only grammatical oddity in Torah. (There are also places where G-d is referred to as plural, and also as female.) One suggestion is that this is a way of creating a diminutive–that is, that the verse should be read as “a man should not lie with a boy.” Now, it’s worth noting that modern secular scholarship has concluded the written Torah was written down around the 6th century BCE, and most non-Orthodox Jewish scholars are like “yeah, all things considered, that sounds pretty legit.”
Do you know what else was happening around the 6th century BCE? What laypeople tend to mean when they say “ancient Greece” was happening.
Do you know what happened a lot in that time period in Greece? Dudes forming relationships with younger boys, like ages 10-15, and using them for sex in exchange for financial gifts, mentorship, etc. While we don’t know just how young some of these younger boys may have been, we do know some were prepubescent. In light of this, and also something I mentioned under the first point–”see your neighbors? DON’T DO THAT,” if this verse is interpreted to say “a man should not lie with a boy,” then it’s pretty clearly “my dudes, my fellows, my lads, don’t be fucking pedophiles.”
4) Because of the grammar I mentioned in #3, it’s also possible that “should not lie with a man as with a woman” is actually referring to a place, not an abstract personhood: a man shouldn’t have sex with another man in a woman’s bed. In the time period, a woman’s bed was sort of like–that was her place, her safe sanctuary. It was also a ritually holy place where babies were made. By having sex in her bed, you’re violating her safe space (and also introducing a man who may not be a male relative, thus forcing her into breaking the laws of modesty). If this verse is read this way, then it should be taken to mean “don’t sexually violate a woman’s safety and modesty.” 5) And as an offshoot of #4, this may be a second verse relating to infidelity. Which woman’s bed is any random dude in 600 BCE most likely to have access to? His wife’s. But laws were administered differently based on whether the person they pertained to was slave or free, male or female, and so on–thus, a man committing adultery with a woman would be treated differently than man committing adultery with a man (especially because the latter would carry no chance of an illegitimate pregnancy).
So you’ll note, there are a lot of ways to read this verse, and only a one-to-one translation with no cultural awareness produces “being gay is wrong, all of the time”. (You’ll also notice the word “abomination” is nowhere to be found. That’s like … a straight-up fiction created for who only knows what reason.)
Apparently tumblr mobile doesn’t want to show @prismatic-bell ’s long and in-depth essay, so here’s the screenshots, because it still shows up on mobile browsers:
Much appreciated.
I love when scholarship and history debunks bullshit
…I sadly have more bullshit to report.
“removed for violating guidelines”, EVERY screenshot.
…goddamnit
Let’s try this again
I am horrified that @prismatic-bell keeps getting censored + this info is gold.
Many thanks, @pulmonary-poultry. This isn’t the only Jewish post of mine that’s mysteriously stopped showing up in searches and/or vanished from my blog entirely, but it is the one I get the most requests to repost, so this saves me from having to rewrite the whole damned essay. @the-invisible-self, thanks for bringing it to my attention that someone was able to preserve the post!

i know a lot ot us have that "what if i'm actually annoying" fear, and while i COULD self-soothe with affirmations like "i'm not annoying, it's okay" i prefer "it is my human right to be annoying and cringe"
i put this in my tags but i feel very strongly about this (not to be serious on a funny post)
Image text transcription: #NO UNIRONICALLY THIS #i have a thing about being annoying or a burden and smth and my therapist told me #is that that’s love!! being a burden and leaning on one another and being an inconvenience and irritating and annoying or whatever the fuck “thats what it is to be human baby!! we r not self sufficient beings #we’re pack animals #of course you’re going to be annoying “babies bond with their mothers by being dead weight for years and that’s GOOD and HEALTHY #it’s your god given right to be annoying #anyway. this is not very eloquent but i think it gets the point across #lean on one another be burdensome #that’s how you build trust by being an imposition #this took a turn
finding out several clone wars eps were written by george lucas' then-teenage daughter is putting me in absolute shambles they were making episodes written by a high schooler
this is my villain origin story
here’s the thing though - she actually has a writing credit on FIFTEEN clone wars episodes, some of which are the most iconic ones: ventress’ nightsister dathomir arc, maul’s return arc, the planned final ventress arc that got made into dark disciple, AND THE ICONIC FIVES CHIP ARC.
in hollywood you see some famous man’s fucking son get opportunities constantly and do mediocre shit, and in this case george lucas’ daughter did the exact opposite and wrote OOPS ALL BANGERS
@apollonkondric
Katie Lucas. She was also a target of attack from dudebros who blamed her for the series continuity issues, even though those issues had been going on before she was brought on as a writer. She also managed to be the writer who BEST assimilated the older less-canon works into the Lucas canon - Asajj Ventress’s species and origin story were almost wholly changed for TCW, and yet Katie Lucas adapted the best parts of Ventress’s comics origin story so that she remained the same character for the most part. And she was in high school.
Good for her.
