Author's Note: So this fic is up on Wattpad, Ao3, and FFN. It was also written on my phone too. As well, I know I have it as a pairing, but like the relationship you have with your best friend...
"No!" They all cried out as they watched their friends - their family get shot at.
Mariah felt helpless as she watched from the sidelines of the battle, watching the Minicons fight back; fighting for their freedom.
A peace that they've craved for million of years.
Peace that they very well deserve for a war not of their doing.
Each time she thought about it, it made her angry, they shouldn't be forced to do something that they never wanted to do. And when she heard of powerlinxing and what it is... And what it activates in the Minicons system made Mariah physically sick.
She couldn't even imagine.
But here they were; fighting the good fight and doing what it takes to win.
Mariah's heart hammered in her chest and her hands shook as both Cyclonus and Starscream began firing at the Minicons. She hoped, prayed to their God and hers, that they wouldn't be hit.
That they wouldn't get hurt.
Unfortunately, her request was denied, as she witnessed one of the shots, hit the armament that Highwire was at, sending him flying back multiple feet.
Time seemed to slow down to a snails pace as Mariah when one of the kids mentioned that Highwire wasn't getting up.
"Highwire... Come on! Come on! Come on! Get up!" Mariah muttered, her hands now shaking as she looked over to the leader of the Street Action Team.
What felt like an eternity passed before Mariah felt her limbs moving what seemed to be on their own accord as she ignored the gasps, shouts, and frantic beeps from everyone on her team trying to get her to go back to safety as she continued sprinting to where Highwire was still laying, face down, still unmoving.
She saw energon leaking from an open gash on his side near the Minicon emblem with a few other large scratches here and there. She knew she had to be careful of the energon as it was toxic, and it could burn her if she touched it, but she also didn't care.
She needed to get him out of the immediate area.
"Oh my God! Oh my God! Oh my God! Please be ok!" Mariah murmured as she carefully, yet quickly, turned him over onto his back, got behind him and then sat him up before she knelt in front of him with her back to him while she grabbed onto one arm and then the other, placing them both over her front.
Placing herself into a slightly different position to help her stand up, she grabbed hold of one of his legs, bringing it up to her hip and holding it close while she pushed up and was standing.
Highwire's helm bounced painfully off the back of her head as she ran as fast as she could back to where the others were. She cried out as a blast knocked them both down to the ground, debris spraying over them. Panting, she managed to get them up and continued going on.
Within a couple of minutes she was back with them. Her entire body shook and she could vaguely feel a burning sensation on her forearm and the back of her hand, but she didn't care.
"What were you thinking?" Alexis began chastising, followed by Rad and Carlos too.
"You could've been hurt!"
"I am doing my job, first and foremost! And then a friend!" She shot back. "I need my damn bag! Now!"
She was quickly given it and she grabbed electrical tape, face cloths, gauze, two extra large ziplock bags, and a pair of nitrile gloves then quickly got to work.
"Help me get Highwire onto his side."
The battle sounded so distant in that moment as she focused on Highwire and trying to stop...the bleeding? Or would it be considered a leak? In any case, she knew that she had to do what she could to stop it.
"Ok ok ok...um...cloths..." She murmured to herself after getting the gloves on and then shoving the face cloths down as much as possible into the large gash to try and soak up the energon. Then she placed her finger over the hole to stop the flow for the time being until she could figure out how to fix the hose or at least, a temporary fix on the hose with the nick in it.
She looked to the kids, not missing the look of worry upon their faces as they focused their attention on her. With her free hand she gestured to the electrical tape, "I need someone to rip off a few pieces, approximately two or three inches and give them to me one at a time."
Carlos grabbed it and did as instructed.
With the hand plugging the hole, she pulled gently up and with her other hand, placed another cloth under it, then wiped some energon away with some gauze. Then, taking one of the pieces of electrical tape, she placed the end just above her finger, then slowly and every couple of millimetres, she moved her finger back and back and back until the tape completely covered the hole. Then with a shaky sigh, placed the other two over them.
"Okay, well it's not a permanent fix, but it'll do until we get back to base and have it taken care of properly." Mariah said while looking up at the kids and grabbing the energon soaked cloths and putting them quickly into one of the ziplock bags, then grabbing the other bag she placed it over the gash and started to tape it in place.
And, of course, the very last thing she did was take her gloves off and threw them into the bag with the contaminated cloths and sat back on her haunches, her mind going a mile a minute.
She was pulled out of her thoughts by a loud gasp. Mariah blinked then looked up to see Alexis looking down at her hands with wide, fearful eyes.
"Your... Your hands are burnt..." Alexis said while Mariah frowned, "you don't feel that?!"
Mariah turned her attention to her hands and her own eyes widened when she looked at her hands. The back of both hands were red, almost purple, the skin peeling at her fingers. Turning them over, Mariah saw that blisters were forming on the palms of her hands. "Uhm...I do now..."
A grimace formed on her face as she sat heavily down onto the ground when she began to feel her skin burning. Not to mention, she was feeling nauseous and dizzy, and her heart pounded.
Large, metallic footsteps came over to them, the voices of the Transformers surrounding them. Some sounded angry, some were worried, and some were relieved. In her mind, they sounded slightly muffled, and she couldn't really pay attention to what they were really saying.
Suddenly, an electrical static sensation washed over her for a moment. Immediately, she was being picked up and cradled to one of the Autobots chassis. Mariah could vaguely hear the hum of their spark.
"We have to get back to base right away." Red Alert's voice was right above her, "She's experienced energon poisoning."
She was coming in and out of consciousness by the time they got to base.
When she was placed on one of the lightly padded metal tables, it jostled her body and sent almost what she could only describe as an electric shock through her body and she cried out.
"Don't worry, you'll be alright, Mariah, just hang for a little while longer." Red Alert's voice said above her, then she felt a warmth wash over her and darkness soon followed.
