I definitely still have some level of distaste for astrology, true crime paranoia, etc., but I think my negative feelings towards this bundle of woman-coded vices has declined as I've grown more familiar with the modern era of men-coded vices. It is harder to focus on the irrationalist nature of tarot or the abundance of low-quality smut appearing on book store shelves recently when some of the big trends among Dudes online seem to be betting your life savings on sports, becoming more conservative than your grandfather, hitting yourself with a hammer to look hotter, and eating so much raw red meat that you invent new diseases

now i know that each new adaptation seems to be more committed to make spider woman a movie instead of just something that valentin calls molina like in the book BUT i think in this new film we kinda get at least the aknolwadge that molina is the spider woman. and this happens mostly because they decided not only to make molina be able to delivery valentin's message but also (maybe because of that…actually i believe it's their intention that we believe so) valentin gets to walk out of prision. and it's not a concidence, molina tells her version of the film and not how it really is. the movie is her diary and also a way to express her intimate desires and inner struggles (very much like in the book and tonatuih talks about that in an interview explaining their aproauch in she's a woman number because they're not acting as kendall who is in love with aurora like in the movie but as molina who despises kendall and desires to be aurora), but the 2025 movie is also a deliberate parallel for hers and valentin's journey. the spider woman is presented as a character the audience should be afraid of, she is the one who will take away aurora's loved one, however later we not only find out who is the real villian, but also that the spider woman is the only one who can save the village from him and is asking only for a kiss in return. i know that's not exactly a copy and paste of what happens to molina (and i also would like to add that part of her trying to get information was kind of unexplored in this version) but the parallel is clear. so valentin is armando, but he also shares some traits with aurora (here is a post that explores this idea in a more eloquent way than my rambling) and molina is aurora and also sometimes kendall but she is the spider woman too.

it's insane how The Kiss of the Spider Woman (2025) is everything Emilia Perez wanted to be and only like 3 people watched the damn thing
