Recently I’ve been rabbit holeing about the emu war and it’s so funny, the reason it happened was because they were messing with farmers, who didn’t have the resources to deal with the birds themselves due to the Great Depression, these farmers were also inexperienced with farming because they were primarily WWI VETERANS, and these one quarter of these veterans ABANDONED THEIR FARMS due to the emus

It gets better because despite declaring war on the emus, they sent 3 guys to deal with it, the entire war was thought by 3 guys, with MACHINE GUNS, not only that, it was 3 guys but 2 guns, and they brought a CINEMATOGRAPHER with them, they were going to ambush ‘thousands of emus’ but the gun JAMMED and the emus were all able to run away, because they were FASTER THAN THE TRUCKS THEY WERE BEING SHOT FROM, turns out emus are also MILDLY BULLET RESISTANT, meaning if it’s not a direct hit, odds are the emu could walk it off

It took 6 days for them to realize how bad of an idea this was, and also 6 days for the press to tell everyone how stupid this was, the public was like “good for the emus” but the farmers kept complaining so they SENT THEM BACK, if those farmers didn’t complain this would have been a SIX DAY WAR

The emus started getting wise to the war and STARTED LOOKING OUT FOR THEM so they couldn’t kill any emus

The only reason the war ended was because it was TOO EXPENSIVE with how many bullets they were using! Instead they just have the WWI VETERANS guns and place bounties on emus, which feels like it was the smarter option from the start instead of “yeah let’s send 3 guys with machine guns”

Years later they realized that placing bounties on emus might not have been smart because they were endangered now and so they put up fencing . . . They put up fencing, the logically third choice and not first choice

Anyway now emus are federally protected so good for them

I was actually talking about this earlier this week but I think the essence of what people try to get at when they say things like this is that relationships with other people are extremely important and greatly affect us, which is true on a biological and mental level, things like touch starvation and babies straight up dying if they aren't held enough, but since a lot of people focus on romantic and sexual relationships thats what they assign to that role, also because societally, those are the relationships where you can just have casual touches, MY EXPERIENCE with how much touch is 'allowed' in friendships versus romantic/sexual partners was defined in elementary and middle school with me being shipped with ALL OF MY FRIENDS because i value physical touch, hell they shipped me just because I talked to people, so to this day im cagey about physical touch, the stem of these claims are societal influences and not grounded truths, yes we need people in our lives that love us, but that love does NOT have to be romantic or sexual or even platonic, if you have people that love you and you love them, then thats good, and is what they mean when they say that, they're just ill informed and stinky

sorry, i got very tangenty TLDR: relationships with other people are important, the nature of them isn't as important as society claims

I really wanted to merge the fantasy and modern with normie because while he is from the fantasy realm, America wants to kit him out and normie indulges him a little like with the chest rig, gun on his thigh(that he doesn’t use) and changing his cloak to be camo(based on the hoodie) also ginger normie because I said so, I love magic effects so much and I’m really happy with the fireball, also the potion on his hip is so detailed for no reason I don’t know why I did that, I tried a lot of new things with this drawing and I’m really happy with it, also thank you @catsandpizza20 for the fluffy haired normie headcanon

Here are some of my normie head canons:(I’ve shared a lot in comments and the headcanons blog @america-wizard-headcanons there’s lots of good stuff there look)

-I think normie knows hand to hand (he’s just rusty and unfamiliar with modern hand to hand) because before he knew he wanted to be a wizard he wanted to be a knight/guard and actually was in training for one year before he discovered his magic ability

- he really likes cooking, like simple meals but enjoys making something for his party that helps, part of the reason he mostly stuck to support spells before ep 100

- his cloak is made of an old uniform America took apart and turned into a cloak for him

-I know we got canon heights (I think during CB’s ep) but I don’t care, normie is SMALL, like I think he was said to be like 5’7, nah, make him 5’3, he is an itty baby and I love him for it

Okay trans masc Simon, just cause I think the horror of dysphoria and blood related trauma whenever he gets his period would be amazing to write, but also in the context of Bloodymary Simon asks the eridians if they could synthesize testosterone for him but they don’t know what that is so they ask grace and then are like “your bodies supposed to make that but doesn’t???” And Simon has to explain to them and then they take samples of graces t or however science stuff works in order to make some for Simon and I think that’s cute
