me at 6 years old playing roller coaster tycoon on the family computer and purposely deleting the tracks when people got on
me except with zoo tycoon where I’d wait for a bunch of guests to come in and then make a hole in the fence of the lion enclosure
you guys are insane. I played roller coaster tycoon when I was a kid and accidentally dropped a guest in the water and I couldn’t save him and he drowned. I was so distraught that I went to my grandma and begged her to help me pray to Jesus that night to forgive me for the sin of murdering that poor man. And you were out there doing it intentionally.
im a blorbo apologist but also they did every bad thing they did and i will get mad if u ignore that. complexities
forgot the best part of death note, the american names written by someone who was just kind of guessing what american names sounded like. anyways rip to raye penber, arire weekwood, and lian zapack, average american men
rest in peace real character and average american man mail jeevas
the real american men and women of death note taken STRAIGHT from the manga
Same energy
Ok I know many foreign names in manga/anime do sound this dumb out of cluelessness and it's funny to point and laugh, but in the case of Death Note in particular, this was not a "haha japanese man doesn't know american names" thing. The weird names were a deliberate choice.
I don't have my copy with me right now to directly quote the passage, but on the Death Note vol. 13 tankoubon—which consists of extras and behind-the-scenes content—, the author says that all the names in the series (including the japanese ones) were chosen to not be similar to real names, to avoid creating awkwardness/fear/superstition due to someone's real name being in the fictional Death Note.
For the japanese names, this was achieved by using names that sound like normal japanese names, but are written with unusual kanji (such as the surname Ide being spelled 伊出 rather than 井手, or Takahashi spelled 鷹橋 rather than 高橋). Light's whole name, Yagami Light spelled 夜神月, is very unique and unusual, to avoid creating unwanted association between him and any real person.
Since names in english don't have kanji, the author just invented names that sound vaguely american/british but are not real names in those countries.
oh i didn’t know this! that’s actually really cool!
there’s something very funny developing on reddit today
If anyone is curious as to why the second poster is calling them out, the comments explain it but basically: the Westboro Baptist Church really isn’t a large group, it mostly consists of a single family. Apparently YesThisIsHappening is an actual, confirmed ex-member of the WBC who has been on Reddit for years and has even done an AMA (Ask Me Anything) about his experiences.
Because the WBC is so small and outside members coming in is so rare, YesThisIsHappening was able to eliminate possible ex-WBC members as suspects and realize Elys was full of shit. But according to people who have reblogged this post, the mods of r/HarryPotter have taken down YesThisIsHappening’s rebuttal post while keeping up Elys’s post (probably because it’s driving traffic to their sub and painting the series in a positive light).
Tbh this is so fucking funny. Anyone who knows even a little bit about the WBC knows that despite its notoriety it’s extremely small and close-knit and therefore very easy to prove if someone is lying about being part of it. Elys could have just said they were from a Quiverfull family or even a FLDS cult but I guess they had to go with the flashier name instead.
every time someone tells me they love me, however casual it may be, it feels like the world comes to a halt for a second . someone Loves me . me ! how wonderful
everything really is about communication...
this post is not about love or isolation or anything like that. this post is about how if you email your professors they will give you extensions on assignments, and if you do not email your professors they will not give you extensions on assignments. but it can be about those other things too
I find the Death Note on the ground and pick it up but I don’t read the boring shit inside the cover so I just take the weird goth notebook home with me and drop it in my drawer with all the other ones and don’t touch it for the next six months until I need something for dnd notes or something so I just write shit like “SKULL IN BARREL?” or “HOT LADY ORCS WITH CHAINSAWS” and my shinigami hates my fucking guts so I never see him
Hi guys! I saw this on twitter the other day and thought some of you may be interested:
“Sunny Day” is a daily-life themed zine celebrating the 10th anniversary of the manga finale of Katekyo Hitman REBORN! (https://twitter.com/SunnyDayKHR)
They are currently doing an interest check so if you are, well, interested, you can go take a look at their account 😊
(PSA: I’m not one of the zine’s mods/contributors, I just think is a neat thing to do for the anniversary and since I haven’t seen anyone posting about it here on tumblr I just wanted to share)
the human body is an engineering marvel. I sneeze in bright light. if I dont get enough sunlight on my skin I get tired and sad and have to drink a lot of milk to fix it. standing too much hurts, but sitting too much also hurts. if I get a virus, my body will increase its temperature in an attempt to cook it, which also cooks my brain cells. toenails exist. I have to turn the radio down to see better when I drive. there are 17 genes dictating what my hair texture is, but it completely changes when the air is too humid. yawning is contagious. there are more species of bacteria living in my body than there are species of birds in the entire world. every few months I grievously injure my neck by "sleeping on it weird." it took seven million years of human evolution to form me, and now I'm afraid of phone calls.
I tried to find something about this to reblog and share, but I didn't see anything so I wanted to put this out there. More than 1000 authors have all signed a petition to stand in solidarity with trans rights and essentially condemning J.K. Rowling's TERF views.
This includes Stephen King (which coincides with his Twitter drama with Rowling from before), Margaret Atwood, Neil Gaiman, and more big names in the industry.
Look at those beautiful trans supportive authors!
The Google doc with the letter and a list of the authors who signed it can be found here:

Here is a link to an LA Times article:
Between 1,500 and 2,000 members of the North American literary world signed an open letter offering support to trans and nonbinary communiti
And here is a link to the Guardian article:
With more than 1,200 signatories the US and Canada including Neil Gaiman and NK Jemisin, message follows row over comments by JK Rowling
I thought, given all the sincere disappointment I've heard from people who loved her books, at least this gives you an alternative source.
Trans rights are human rights!
The curtains are blue meme or joke or whatever it is always makes me so mad not only because of the obvious "people use it as an excuse not to think critically about a piece of literature" but also like. Completely misconstrued the point of writing in the first place? You write to tell a story and those stories have a meaning to them and every element of that story has to contribute to the meaning or theme is some way. Yeah sure, blue curtains may not be a big deal, the author could have very well intended for it to be a description of the scene. But that's a meaning! The author wants to immerse you in the world they are creating! There's a point to why the curtains are blue but maybe not directly related to the story but rather your experience in how you relate to the story as a reader. If the author said "there were curtains" then you as a reader wouldnt be able to imagine what the curtains look like because of the sheer possibility of curtain patterns that could have been available to you.
And like, people forget that it doesnt matter what the author intended. They could have been writing a story about how a dude looks out a window with blue curtains to find some silly kid playing a game and that really was it! They just wanted to do a description of the scene! But as soon as a reader interprets it in some way, it can also mean that thing as well. Theres a reason why english classes dont have "right" answers. They're teaching you to find meaning even if there wasnt intentions of meaning behind it. I find that the meme just. Completely missed the point of reading and I question why some of you would even read in the first place if it isnt personable to you as a reader.

truly will never get over the fact that L from death note was designed specifically to be unattractive in contrast to the pretty boy looks of light, but in order to achieve that they just made him look like a pale emoboy with too much eyeliner. in the 2000s. what did they expect
