i know it irritated people that you have to do work for meredith in act 3 no matter what because they didn’t really finish the pro-mage route but please consider the horror of hawke’s hard-earned rise to power putting them in that position where they have to work for meredith no matter what because there’s no amount of money or lineage or property or titles that will let you survive without betraying your own

i sometimes think hawke’s autonomy must have been a slow decline and that isabela, who comes back after so much time away after the duel, is in the best position to recognise the drastic change. imagine being bela and cheerfully going along with the party for the first time since you got back to kirkwall, and you suddenly realise they’re headed to the gallows to pick up information on what they’re doing for the day. to meredith’s office. and anders doesn’t joke anymore and varric jokes too much to fill the gap and hawke won’t look you in the eye
