@kitschywitsch
can't stop thinking about how hysterical project hail mary would be from rocky's pov when you consider that, by eridian standards, basic human functioning is simultaneously an incredibly hostile and violently perverted body horror fetish nightmare. imagine you make first contact with an alien and it's an apex predator with an obscene number of orifices, made up mostly of toxic substances that it oozes constantly from said orifices, thrives in an unforgivingly cold and suffocating atmosphere, is highly motivated by searching for its next meal + consumes its food publicly in violation of your society's main taboo, and is capable of rapidly transitioning from vulnerable in sleep to alert and in full possession of its faculties at the slightest change in stimuli. grace is in a heartwarming scifi buddy comedy and meanwhile rocky is bonded with and planning on bringing home his species' equivalent of the xenomorph.
POV you're welcoming home your planet's heroic saviours
when i was a kid, we had this variety of bleeding heart plant growing in our yard:
i thought they looked like translucent fairies wearing poofy pants. i was recently reminded of this & wanted to make a translucent fairy in poofy pants.
i love how the transparent parts turned out and absolutely want to experiment more with this technique. i printed the inner skeletal parts as normal, and then printed a one-walled shell with no infill out of transparent filament. i cut the shell open in the back and slid the skeleton inside. the outer layer of the head doesn't have eyes sockets, which makes the eyes hazy.
for the head & back frills i printed a one-layer sheet out of the same filament, cut the shapes out of that, and bent it into shape using a heat gun and hot glue.
This counts as fan art
Are you
Braless or mostly braless
Compromise option
Typically wearing a bra
Binder option
I’m flat/male/FtM
“Compromise” refers to wearing a bra sometimes but much less than a woman of your culture is expected to. Or using an undershirt or camisole or some other nuanced answer. If you wear a full bra on weekdays, select “typically wears a bra”
no leaves, but plenty of eyes.
inspired by me spacing out on a long drive & staring at trees. this happened earlier this year, and birches ended up growing leaves before i finished the doll.
all branches & roots are made of metal wire + hot glue, which makes them poseable and also keeps them from snapping.
something thats funny about bugs is that my grandma Hates Bugs and she is constantly constantly spraying any bug she finds in her house especially spiders. always using massive amounts of poison.
I do not use any poisons or insecticides and I actively encourage my house spiders
the result is that her home is full of poison-resistant cockroaches and nothing else, while mine is a healthy bug ecosystem of Mostly Spiders and sometimes the junebugs who like to come die in my sink. and the moths that I have to rescue from Glimmer. but no roaches!
pest control is just such a scam and it troubles me deeply how normalized it is idk. people react with revulsion when I'm like "no I just encourage the house spiders and they do a pretty good job" bc they are classing house spiders as equally bad as every other bug and that's TERRIBLE bc bugs are TERRIBLE due to they're YUCKY
rather than like. some bugs will leave you alone. some bugs want to eat you or your house. other bugs pose health and safety hazards bc they want to infest your cornflakes. a healthy crop of house spiders will prevent all of these from becoming a problem much of the time, barring extreme circumstances
I think the pest control industry is one of the worst ones and a lot of that is honestly ideological if that makes sense? like the way the existence of the pest control industry necessitates a narrative about animals that live in and near our homes that is. well. extremely violent and weirdly sterile and aggressive
Ok but sometimes roaches are going to get in regardless of what you do. This is especially true if you live somewhere where roaches live outside, or if you live in an apartment building. Most spiders aren’t big enough to deal with roaches. You can’t just “coexist with roaches” because they’re allergenic and they bite you. What you do is you work with pest control (if it’s your responsibility and not your landlord’s) to get rid of the roaches and ants with as little damage to spiders as possible.
You’re not roach-free because of your virtuous actions, OP. You just got lucky. That could change.
hi I live next door to my grandma and we have all of the same other conditions regarding our home ecosystems, so I do know that it is her use of poison that means she does not have other bugs in her home.
I didn't say I was virtuous. I have lived in apartments that have roach problems.
also to speak to your tags: I am disabled! I'm deeply familiar with the phenomenon you're describing and this post is not doing that.
try projecting less.

I am going to journal my way through this.
My mom has been hospitalized for three compound fractures to her lumbar vertebrae. She has advanced osteoporosis, and her bones are, to quote her jagoff neurosurgeon "like hot butter".
She's asleep now. A brief respite from constant pain and vomiting. They're not sure what they can do for her as most treatments depend on bracing against some kind of healthy bone. Something they are not sure she has. Pain medications make her vomit even more.
It's understandable that she keeps telling me she wants to die. I don't enjoy hearing it though. I've heard her say that a lot and know she meant it. I don't think it's something you really get used to.
They're taking as good of care of her as they can. At least I think they are. There's only so much that Google and I can know. I am grateful.
She worries about being a burden to me. I worry about that too. I'm even more worried about being a burden to others. Afraid to ask for anything in case their patience runs out and the resentment starts to show.
I don't know that I can go be a therapist tomorrow. Sometimes I resent the fact that my only marketable skill is caring for others and sharing my absurdist hope. What happens when I run out of those resources too?
I hope somewhere out there is a small creature that has only known happiness
The cover is so goddamn red
happy 20 year anniversary of Neil banging out the tunes!
though every rat is special, it's a wonderful and unusual thing for their accomplishments to be remembered and cherished by so many people so many years later. we're all so fortunate to know about the rat who banged out the tunes!
thank you to all the people who sent me reference photos of their beloved rats for this piece!!! credits under the cut!

wait everyone put in the tags where u were when u found out about the nationwide/global covid shutdown. i was eating a bag of chips on the roof of the remote building where i was leading a retreat and i had to help break the news to 50 high school students who didn’t have their phones
My work called everyone into the Real Big Room to all get our temperatures checked. Everyone. Together. In one room. I thought that was a pretty bad idea, but I didn't want to get in trouble, so I stepped in, remembered that being in trouble is better than being infected with a mysterious new virus, and then left work entirely to go home.
Sorry. I had to get that off my chest. I still think about that sometimes and thank god we got a new nurse a couple of years later.
