I don’t remember the context for this scene, it’s been sitting on my desktop for two months now. I just remember being really excited to animate a short scene and then I remembered that this scene has more characters in it than any other scene I’ve done. So… yeah.

Confession, I’ve been in the depression pit for a while now, and haven’t listened to Dungeons and Daddies in a couple months. You could chalk it up to depression, or if you want to be less melancholy you can just say I’ve been stock piling episodes for mass binging.

Fucking christ, do you know what this would have done? What this would have meant to SO MANY people??  The truth of this is devastating. And to think it almost found it’s way into a DISNEY film??

The inclusion of this scene alone would have made it the greatest animated feature the company ever produced. Easily. And if you think that’s hyperbolic clearly you don’t understand.

No, really, if anyone knows why this was cut PLEASE let me know.

It was clearly something the crew was very reluctant to get rid of if it made it all the way to rough-clean (and in a few scenes clean!), fully inbetweened animation. That is like, thousands and thousands of dollars and weeks (months?!) of labour. Maybe a reluctant producer decided they would alienate their white middle-class American audiences by making them feel “too guilty” and pressed them to drop it? It’s unfortunate, it’s one of the most honest accounts of racism in a Disney movie (which is why it’s believable that someone got uncomfortable and made a case to get it chopped)

Designing entertainment by committee for maximum marketability is probably the most heartbreaking process in Hollywood.

Reagan is the president who espoused the flawed “trickle down economics” theory, cut federal funding for state welfare programmes by 80%, froze the federal minimum wage while taxes and costs skyrocketed, and established the capital gains tax cuts that set our corporate feudal state into motion.

Reagan is the president who gutted federal assistance programmes, purging the Social Security disability rolls, and caused my own grandfather to die because he could no longer afford to buy both food and medicine.

Then of course, there’s the Iran-Contra Affair, Star Wars (not the film, but the space based missile platform), school prayer, blah blah blah

But American History textbooks only remember him for “Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall,” treating him like he alone was the force that united East and West Germany and brought the Soviet Union to its knees.

A seems like the type of person to always be overly cautious of how frighteningly fragile their human is VS how terrifyingly strong they are. They seem like the type to cradle your hands instead of just holding them, shoulders hunched to loom protectively over you, hand hovering at the small of your back, close enough for you to feel the heat of their palm but never enough to touch. 

Deeper into the relationship, they’d always be around to guard you in their tiny little ways: opening doors for you, pulling chairs out, lifting police tape for you to duck under, clearing paths for you in crowded areas. You could be bickering with them at full volume and they’d still super-speed their way over to the other side of the car so they could open the door for you (and get the upper hand in the argument). They could be growling at your insolent comebacks but still drape their own coat around your shoulders gently, adjusting the lapels.  They’re the entire trope of gazing wonderingly at you while you sleep, too afraid to touch but yearningly twining a lock of hair around their finger and bringing it to their lips.

Either out of familial concern or boredom, you embark on a journey from your residence to your siblings apartment in New Hampshire to see what’s going on and, hopefully, be home before the weekend.
