Fucking Lancelot gives Guinevere a feeling of power and control but fucking Lancelot gives Arthur a feeling of extreme guilt, disgust and self-loathing. Not because he is a Christian king but because he failed Lancelot’s father so badly and because Lancelot is so much younger than him and desperate for his approval.

Guinevere is aware of the power imbalance and as a medieval woman living in an era where men are allowed their mistresses and women are threatened with death and exile for their infidelities, having a pretty twenty something boytoy who would do anything for her makes her feel in control of something, especially in the wake of the False Guinevere scandal.

Arthur is aware of the power imbalance and he blames himself entirely for warping young Lancelot’s perception of authority and masquerading as a good king, knowing he failed to render aid to his father. He has no idea Lancelot is also fucking his wife and that the whole being raised by fairy demigoddesses thing renders him unperturbed by age gaps in human relationships. That is part of the reason he is so upset to lose Lancelot to Galehaut, it feels exploitative and wrong to trade this poor ill-informed unchristian fairyland Gaulish-Breton hick to a giant from a distant land who may not treat him with the kindness he deserves. Arthur just thinks he has this eager, beautiful and slightly socially awkward young knight who tripped and fell on his dick when Lancelot is like a sexual cognitohazard infecting Camelot and he is also having an affair with his wife and his nephew and slept with Galehaut on the first night.
