The male body is more susceptible to hereditary diseases because of their lack of a second X chromosome. Their testosterone production ages them faster and causes them to die sooner. Their center of gravity is higher because of their tiny little hips and overgrown shoulders, making them easier to topple. Their gonads are placed outside of the body, in a very vulnerable position, because they do not function properly if they get a little bit warmer than usual. They have non-functional nipples, but still enough breast tissue to get cancer. The male body is not hardcore. The male body is to the female body what a shoddy, unstable mod is to a well-estabilished piece of software. Sit the fuck down. And try to not crush your fragile pathetic outside gonads when you do it.

Realism v. gender ideology: Women in apocalyptic fiction shaving their armpits.

This is what gender ideology looks like. That’s The Walking Dead’s Rosita Espinosa and a total absence of armpit hair. 

This is also gender ideology at work: the privileging of an idea of gender over real life or, in this case, realism.

The Walking Dead’s producers go to great lengths to portray what a zombie apocalypse might be like. They are especially keen to show us the nasty bits: what it really looks like when dead people don’t die, what it looks like to kill the undead, and the evil it spawns in those left alive. It’s gruesome. The show is a gore orgy. But armpit hair on women? Apparently that’s just gross.

Gender ideology lost this battle with realism, we’d see armpit hair on the women in Gilligan’s Island, Planet of the Apes,The Blue Lagoon, Beauty and the Beast, Waterworld,  Lost and, yes, The Hunger Games – but we don’t. At least Rosita could conceivably have a razor. How do women supposedly shave their armpits on deserted islands? Did the Beast slip Belle a razor, you know, just as part of his controlling personality? And maybe some persnickety women would continue to shave even if they were lost in purgatory, but Ripley in Alien? Come on.

Our interest in realism only goes so far. Armpit hair on women is apparently one of its limits.

The weakness of Windows is the app situation. Time and again, you’ll find apps which lack polish, or worst case don’t exist, and you’ll resort back to viewing it in the browser. Can that work? Depends.

Tumblr, which this blog runs on, has a lackluster Phone app, and none on Windows. Third party options exist, notably sapphireapp (see writeup), but still, the website can be more convenient.

Now, using Tumblr in Internet Explorer comes with issues. On Phone, notable ones include images being cut in half, as well as seeing blue since IE saved your scroll position beyond where the page loaded. On Desktop, browsing works fine, but creating a new post includes images not reliably reorganizing, as well as text edits not working, each making me resort to Firefox when I want to generate posts.

I’d love staff support to make windowsphone and Windows apps, but would gladly take them working on their Internet Explorer support at the least.

In 1988, Mark Wahlberg attacked two Asian American men in separate racially motivated hate crimes. The first, Thanh Lam, was pummeled with a 5-foot long wooden stick. According to court documents, Wahlberg screamed “Vietnam f**king sh*t!” as he beat Lam unconscious. After fleeing the scene where he assailed Lam, Wahlberg beat his second victim, Hoa Trinh, punching him in the eye and leaving him blind.

Now, over 25 years after these horrific crimes, Wahlberg is petitioning the Massachusetts State Parole Board and Governor Deval Patrick to pardon his hate crime conviction. Wahlberg claims that he is a changed man, and no longer the person he was in 1988 when he shamelessly shattered the lives of two Asian men.

But Wahlberg’s pardon isn’t an attempt to erase this part of his life and wipe the racial slate clean. It’s all about business.

In addition to being a highly-paid actor, Mark Wahlberg also owns Wahlburgers, a successful Boston-based hamburger chain that he plans to expand into California. And here’s where Wahlberg is really aiming with his request for a pardon: He wants to build his Wahlburger empire in the state of California, but will be unable to obtain a liquor license as a convicted felon. The solution? Get a pardon. Once his record is cleared of his hate crime, it’s smooth sailing – and he gets to pull in money hand over fist while his victims bear the scars and blindness he left for them.

We demand that the Massachusetts State Parole Board and Governor Patrick deny Mark Wahlberg a pardon for his hate crimes. Not only is granting a pardon an affront to justice, but even asking for one completely disrespects Wahlberg’s victims. Sign our petition now!
