Astronauts are so funny man. Here's just a couple of things I've found hilarious from this past week of space stuff:
It's probably already been spread around here enough already, but in case anyone's missed it; 7 hours after launch, commander Reid Wiseman, dealing with tech issues, uttered the generational quote "I have two Microsoft Outlooks and neither one of those are working."
After fixing the issues that were afflicting the onboard toilet, mission specialist Christina Koch (who has quickly become my favourite of the four) laughingly said âIâm the space plumber, Iâm proud to call myself the space plumber.â
On Easter Sunday, the Artemis II crew hosted a makeshift egg hunt, by hiding packets of dehydrated scrambled eggs around their Orion capsule.
The way the crew always makes sure to make it very clear they're in space when doing interviews. From stuff like Wiseman just hanging out floating sideways on screen or Koch letting her hair loose so it can freely span out flowing around her.
While in transit, the crew decided to record a parody of those bad 80s sitcom intros where everyone turns and smiles at the camera.
When the crew reached the furthest point from Earth in the mission, they jokingly clambored over each other in an effort to get to the far side of the capsule, so that they could individually claim to be the furthest person from earth.
At the same time, on the ISS which was at the time on the other side of earth, the 7 astronauts onboard had a light-hearted race to the far side of the station, making jokes about being the furthest humans from Artemis.
On the way back to earth, NASA actually managed to establish an audio call between the crews of the ISS and Artemis II (where they shared the above info), and Koch called one member of the ISS crew, Jessica Meir, her "astro-sister" as the two of them previously spacewalker together in 2019. Meir then responded I'm so happy that we are back in space together, even if we are a few miles apart" (a few here being 230,000).
While Jeremy Hansen was doing an interview, Wiseman and Koch were just in the background swatting the mission mascot (a little moon plush toy named Rise) back and forth between each other.
Listen to me. Listen. I need you to dig up your old LJ fan fiction and move it to ao3 or Squidge. I need you to do this. I know, I know! Itâs old fic! But please, for the love of those who will come after you, do it. Nobody can get into those communities. The doors are locked and the mods are gone. You must bring the treasures out for the next generation đ

This is a result of the inhumane decisions that members of this administration want you to be silent about in public for fear of a loss of âcivilityâ.

Kat Abughazaleh, a 26-year-old running for Congress in Illinois, is spending her campaign dollars in a whole new way.
"Kat Abughazaleh, a 26-year-old running for Congress in Illinoisâ 9th congressional district, isnât shy about her belief that politicians need to do things differently.
âWe have a representation problem,â the first line of the âAboutâ page on her website reads.
âAs in, about half of Congress are millionaires and people born before the Moon landing. And that's part of the reason we're in this mess: Our leaders are out of touch.â
A journalist, social media influencer, and political commentator that GQ called âa lefty,â with a mission to revitalize the Democratic party, Abughazaleh built a following online before she launched her campaign in March of 2025.Â
But now, sheâs leveraging her platform â and campaign dollars â to help people in her community before ballots are even filled in.
âMy congressional campaign is feeding people right now,â she starts in a recent TikTok video.Â
âPart of the reason I decided to run was because I saw how much money gets wasted in politics, and I thought, âWhat if we spent it differently?ââ
She adds that the campaign is focused on âdirect action and mutual aid,â emphasizing that she wanted her run for office to be âdual-purpose,â in which she can get her message out and help people in the process.Â
Itâs a stark pivot from the traditional way of campaigning in the United States, which often includes pricey fundraising galas, attack ads, big billboards, and perhaps the most criticized and unpopular feature: massive donations from private businesses and interest groups.Â
Abughazaleh has publicly congratulated the former incumbent of this seat â 80-year-old Rep. Jan Schakowsky, who has held the title since 1999, the year Abughazaleh was born â for her âdecades of service.âÂ
Rep. Schakowsky will not seek reelection, but Abughazaleh called for others to run, hoping to participate in the âfirst competitive Democratic primary in the District since 1998.â
Abughazaleh has also shared that the average donation her campaign receives is $31. And according to GQ, 1,000 people signed up to volunteer for her campaign within a week of her initial announcement.
And while that volunteering does include marketing, canvassing, and getting the word out, it mostly adds up to actual on-the-ground volunteer work to help people in the local community.
âOur kick-off event, for instance, didnât charge $500 a plate,â Abughazaleh shared in her TikTok. âPeople just had to bring a box of pads or tampons, which were donated to Chicagoâs period collective. By the end of the night, we had gathered over 5,600 period products, which went to people who canât afford them.â
Most recently, the campaign hosted a food drive for a local community fridge program.
âWe asked folks to come out and donate food in exchange for a campaign yard or window sign,â Abughazaleh said. âAnd by the end of the day, we were able to fully stock the empty pantry and fill the fridge with frozen meals, produce, and eggs. Thatâs feeding people right now.â
âDonât worry, we checked to make sure this is legal," she added. "And it is."
The campaign has also launched a High School Public Serve Grant program that encourages local youth to submit ideas for how to make the community better, and Abughazalehâs campaign will support it with money, materials, volunteers, and her online platform...
âSomething youâll rarely see is concrete help in their communities during the campaign,â she said. âAnd frankly, to me, that just seems stupid. Not only do you get to help people â supposedly what youâre running to do â but it also shows what youâre about, instead of just providing lip service.â ...
âIf every campaign adopted this model, then we wouldnât be wasting money every single cycle. Every city, town, and village across America would be improved by their election process, and I think it would also get people more involved,â she said.
âWe have local folks who have never voted in an election, but they joined our volunteer Discord server because they want to help, they feel like they have something to vote for.â
For those who might be inspired enough to run for office with this model, she says: Full steam ahead.
âFrankly, I would love it if other campaigns took our model. Use it, pretend itâs yours, I donât care!â she wrapped up her TikTok.Â
âPair with organizations in your community that have been doing the work, talk with local experts, and try to spearhead any initiatives you can to show your values and help your constituents. Itâs really that easy.â
