SJM in an interview: โmusic inspires like 90% of what I writeโ
Also SJM:
โHer breath curled in front of her mouth, and one of his shadows darted out to dance with it before twirling back to him. Like it heard some silent music.โ
โShe shrugged again, irreverently. Az narrowed his eyes, studying her. โDo you, though?โ she pressed. โSing?โ Azriel couldnโt help his soft chuckle. โYes.โ
โAzriel entered the warmth of the stairwell, and as he descended, he could have sworn a faint, beautiful singing followed him. Could have sworn his shadows sang in answer.โ
Also SJM: ๐๐ถ๐
The funny part about the whole Juniper book debacle is that they didnโt ask for any proof to believe the Reddit account was โfakeโ and โmade by a Gwynrielโ in the first place, and now when presented with proof that itโs not fake and that it wasnโt us, they still donโt want to believe it.
If this isnโt a glimpse into the future on whatโs gonna happen when the next books donโt confirm E/riel, I donโt know what is.
Brycerie/ levels of delusion, that is.
What's absolutely fucking crazy to me is that Azriel and Elain could never address their 5 second blip and it wouldn't effect the overall narrative whatsoever. But you know who has to be resolved as part of his arc for it to work? Mor. Y'all are going to be so pressed when the Moriel situation gets the front row seat and the Elriel debacle gets completely forgotten.
Itโs almost as if the FMCโs real heroine journey hasnโt even started yet, and if she has love interest from the very beginning, can almost garauntee he wonโt be endgame.
Like, itโs one of the most obvious plots when another male she immediately does not want anything to do with shows up. The desire is there, the emotional avoidance is there, the narrative setup is there. People just keep trying to overcomplicate it because theyโre attached to a different outcome.
The fact that Elain is avoiding Lucien is exactly why people should be paying attention instead of dismissing it.
SJM does not write pages and pages of discomfort, awareness, emotional resistance, charged silences, and unresolved tension for characters she plans to make irrelevant to each other. Thatโs not how romance structure works in her books. OR any book.
Elainโs reactions to Lucien are never written like she feels nothing. Theyโre written like someone overwhelmed by what he represents, what the bond means, and what she herself is not ready to confront yet. And in romance narratives, avoidance is often just desire/conflict wearing armor.
The fact that Elain was interested in Azriel before her story even truly began, or even have her POV, is honestly why is not her endgame. Their dynamic exists more through proximity, while the actual emotional resistance and unresolved tension is with Lucien.
And in SJM romances, the person the character keeps resisting is the point.
HAVE THAT CHARACTER GAIN WEIGHT AS A SIGN OF HEALING: NOW
about 90% of fanfiction takes place in a utopia where men are thoughtful and unsure of their place in the world
Who again has sent multiple emails to multiple companies asking about things that didn't go their way? Who rigged bloomsburys Instagram poll last year? Who dragged a tattoo artist into this mix with made up messages? Elriels are a joke. Now they act like lite joy doesn't have a backbone because they took down elriel. Did you say the same thing about the German book story that had to take down the tropes? Some of you need to look in the mirror.
Emerie made history by becoming the first ever Illyrian female to win the Blood Rite and become a Carynthian.
Like, for generations and centuries even past her time, she will be as legendary as Enalius.
She is a legend and I love that for her๐ค she faced the breaking and will go as far as she can in honor of her mother's memory.
Emerie will be the symbol of empowerment and hope for Illyrian females.
100 E/riels vs the concept of liking two characters separately but not as a couple
"SJM wouldn't write 'What if the Cauldron was wrong?' just for it to be right!" Unless, and stay with me here...the point is that Azriel is wrong for thinking that fate/The Mother would pair fated mates based on convenience of proximity, easy attraction, or that he's incorrect in wanting a mate as a potential remedy for the self-worth issues that are clearly on display in the BC. Maybe he's wrong/incorrect in potentially hoping that the bond would provide proof that he's worthy, and instead he has to find that worth within himself completely separate from any romantic relationship.
Just putting it out there!
Manon Blackbeak ๐ค
I am re-reading Throne of Glass right now and almost forgot how much I adore this series. I love ACOTAR, but TOG changed my brain chemistry. Manon is one of those characters that has stuck with me from the first moment I read about her, and her character arc is one of the best I've ever read.
Just a reminder that this is the full quote by SJM:
Because I keep seeing the "does it get it wrong sometimes" isolated as evidence, as if that's all she said in relation to Elucien, but right after she said "does it get it right sometimes".
Choosing one out of two possibilities doesn't automatically mean you've correctly chosen the direction the author chose to to take.
Gwyn Berdara, from day one, was a heroine. Even on the most horrific day of her life, when fear and trauma could have consumed her completely, she still chose to save those children.
Thatโs who Gwyn is at her core, compassionate, brave, selfless. Not because it was easy, not because she was unafraid, but because even in unimaginable pain, her instinct was still to protect those children first.
Some people survive darkness. Gwyn walked through it and still carried light for someone else.
Friendly reminder that if Gwynโs character did not exist, Feyre, Nyx, and Rhysand would literally all be dead.
Without Gwyn, Nesta would never have found the Harp, which means none of them would have been saved. The Valkyries would not exist either.
She deserves so much more appreciation because she is quite literally that girl.
