If you’re a EU national of voting age, please take a moment out of your day to visit this site and sign this Citizens’ Initiative to protect the linguistic rights of European minorities.
SIGN THE INITIATIVE HERE
The initiative needs one million votes to be submitted to the European Commission and we’re still short of nearly 400,000 votes that need to be collected in the next 43 days or the initiative will fail.
Here’s what the initiative proposes:
drafting a EU Recommendation for the protection and promotion of cultural and linguistic diversity in the Union
adjusting funding programmes so that they become accessible for small regional and minority language communities
the establishment of a language diversity centre
allocating regional funds in ways that promote pluralism and benefit national minorities
research into the added value of minorities to social and economic development in Europe
improving minority representation in the elections to the European Parliament
an improved anti-discrimination framework
approximating equality for stateless minorities
creating a single market for copyright (i.e. no more geoblocking)
amending the Audio-visual Media Services Directive to facilitate access to content in minority languages across national borders
regional (state) support for minority communities
A note on any privacy concerns: when signing the initiative, you’ll be ask to provide your full name, date and place of birth, nationality and ID number. This information is encrypted and will never be published, either in part or in full. If the initiative reaches one million signatures, the data will be passed to your national government to verify that you are indeed a citizen.

Okay guys! I just recently came across a really cool resource with a WHOLE BUNCH OF LANGUAGE BOOOKS. Like, I’m talking about SO MANY BOOKS HERE. You can see below some of the languages and the books - ever wanted to learn Middle English??? - There are language books from Arabic to Yoruba and seriously it’s the best thing I’ve ever found. The books are in alphabetical order of language and are in .pdf format so hopefully that shouldn’t be a problem for anyone!
I was able to upload the .zip file of all of the books to my google drive SO if you want access to this AWESOME RESOURCE go here. Let me know what you think about the books and I will try to find more resources!!

These politically motivated data deletions come at a time when the Arctic is warming twice as fast as the global average
As an Arctic researcher, I’m used to gaps in data. Just over 1% of US Arctic waters have been surveyed to modern standards. In truth, some of the maps we use today haven’t been updated since the second world war. Navigating uncharted waters can prove difficult, but it comes with the territory of working in such a remote part of the world.
Over the past two months though, I’ve been navigating a different type of uncharted territory: the deleting of what little data we have by the Trump administration.
At first, the distress flare of lost data came as a surge of defunct links on 21 January. The US National Strategy for the Arctic, the Implementation Plan for the Strategy, and the report on our progress all gone within a matter of minutes. As I watched more and more links turned red, I frantically combed the internet for archived versions of our country’s most important polar policies.
I had no idea then that this disappearing act had just begun.
Since January, the surge has transformed into a slow, incessant march of deleting datasets, webpages and policies about the Arctic. I now come to expect a weekly email request to replace invalid citations, hoping that someone had the foresight to download statistics about Arctic permafrost thaw or renewable energy in advance of the purge.

Not sure if this is useful for anyone, but while looking up shorts to present for class on Tuesday, I came across this video for Little Nemo in Slumberland in Norwegian. I haven’t ever studied Norwegian so I can’t super verify that or anything, but if it’s helpful to anyone, here it is! Hopefully it is Norwegian like it says it is. It is ripped from a VHS so I mean sometimes there appears to be some grain but I hope you’ll be able to enjoy it.
