As someone who is both neurodivergent and navigates life with Avoidant Personality Disorder (AvPD), I want to extend this invitation even further from the other side: please, ask me questions to clarify things too. Because of how my brain processes interactions, I am deeply aware of how easily silent assumptions and minor misunderstandings can snowball, creating a distance that can ultimately end cherished friendships.
I would a thousand times rather you ask me what I meant by a text, an expression, or a moment of withdrawal (where I am usually just sleeping in bed resting after a flare-up) than have you fill in the blanks with worst-case scenarios.
Clarification isn’t a sign of friction. To me, it is an act of care, a safety net that protects our connection, and the greatest reassurance that we are both committed to keeping this friendship safe.

Saw this and thought of sharing it because it is very beautiful
and it's such a good beat that you could tell from the pilot that Buck had a specific sore spot for anything he perceived as abandonment. not even abandonment concerning him specifically, he cares about anyone who might be in a position he sees as abandoned. especially kids, and there his judgement is personal, and you get the payoff beautifully in Buck Begins. he doesn't mind admitting his mistakes when he sees them and has a willingness to learn, but I LOVE that you can tell his motivations for his impulses were also driven from something deeply ingrained in him. plus, the fact that he doesn't have the complicated adult life experiences that the rest of them had before s1 itself adds to him leaning harder on the childhood (and wandering youth) experiences and inferences he did have
if anyone ever broached the idea of buck being in love with eddie TO eddie but they do it with the implication that they’re not sure if eddie feels the same. eddie would be SO offended on buck’s behalf. he’d be like buck is great!! and handsome!! and a good firefighter!! and a great partner!! and a better co-parent!! so the other person is like damn okay fine i guess you’re in love with him too sorry. and eddie’s yeah that’s what i thought. wait.
