Not to be ⨠toxic ⨠but adults who only read YA are quite.... Creepy
Actually being ⨠toxic⨠if all you talk about is media where 90% of the characters are teenagers and you are... Way over it's intended public age.... It is fucking weird.
look i think people should read shit other than YA too but you dont have to baselessly insinuate everyone who does so is a paedo christ
Yeah, not to be That Librarian Asshole, but YA lit is written for a specific reading level, which makes it a lot more fucking accessible to adults who, for a variety of reasons, have issues with reading.Ā
Also, apparently every adult who likes Stranger Things is a creep.
YA is easier to read for those without advanced reading education.
YA is easier to read when you donāt have the energy for somethingĀ āliterary.ā
YA makes it easier to find your specific interests or certain kinds of stories (like magic lady heroes or rebel princesses or first loves or happy endings for Godsā sakes).
YA is simply more accessible for so many reasons. If books about older characters were written similarly, they would appeal to those same adults reading YA.
People who read YA are not p/e/d/o/s or creepy-- they want to read and these are the books that are accessible and enjoyable stories for them, *regardless* of the age of the characters.
YA is also more friendly for sex-repulsed folks to read, since thereās less likely to be a random sex scene / insinuation in YA than in adult-marketed books. Or, you know, for folks who wanna read about dragons and fantasy stories without all the banging and soap opera debauchery.
And itās less likely to have plenty of kinds of triggers as well as a lot of adult-life stress (mortgages, divorce, etc.) that people read to escape.
there is a disturbingĀ amount of people agreeing with OP in the notes and i reallyĀ hope you all are aware that the only people who cannot differentiate between fiction and reality are babies and people experiencing psychosis (such as schizophrenia).
you know damn well there are noĀ āliteral minorsā involved in any of this. quit fucking repeating the same bullshit satanic panic rhetoric in the year 2020. itās straight out of the fucking right-wing playbook to pearl clutch over the children, except now yāall are obsessed with protecting children who arenāt even realĀ and steamrolling over actual human beingsĀ to do it.
actual survivors of csaĀ have repeatedlyĀ told fancops like OP that their crusading is actively harmfulĀ and as someone involved in the psych field it is immensely frustrating to see people pretending theyāre on some moral high horse aboutĀ āprotecting the childrenā when they are literally fostering a culture of shame about fictional material, which guess what, negatively affects the very minors they pretend to care about. this is the exactĀ same rhetoric as the idiots who believe reading harry potter or playing dungeons and dragons will lead you to the path of eternal damnation. itās based in ignorance, fearmongering and a desire to control.
there is zero evidence whatsoever that liking something in fiction forces someone to like it and/or want to enact in real life. people who have paraphilias and whatnot already had them. absolutely none of the themes fancops get up in arms about have beenĀ ānormalizedā because of fan content and the majority of them canāt even define a single one of the fun little buzzwords they love to repeat ad nauseam.
furthermore, fancops are significantly more likely to cause harm to children and other people than reading fictional material or shipping fictional characters. have an extremely well documented list of things theyāve done just this year.
https://docs.google.com/document/d/1Jo3iLtxfrUWkbPjDEvacSe0cEvt6Uzv7FGyXKV2SnQM/edit so OP and everyone agreeing with them -- you are literally too old to not know the difference, so fucking act right and stop trying to police what other people enjoy because it makes you uncomfortable. and until youāve got a half dozen peer-reviewed studies that prove your non-argument, itās your responsibility to fucking mute and move the fuck on.
