You were stuck with August as he measured you, he jotted down measurements and bopped along to the music. You stood there awkwardly not having really talked to him before.
“So uh….” You started as he looked at a couple different designs, he held the paper up to you and debated
“You make all the clothes?” You asked, stating the obvious.
“Yup!” He smiled
“That’s awesome, I use to do fashion and everything as a kid” You smiled a little
“It’s fun! I don’t know what else I would do!”
you gave a small laugh, causing him to smile more “Turn around for me, Hun.” he asked
You faced his desk as he draped some cloth around your waist marking it, your eyes scanned the desk seeing designs "You’re very talented.” You said tilting your head
“Aren’t you full of compliments.” He laughed before you tensed seeing what you thought was an old sketch as a kid.
August didn’t really notice the tensing due to him entering flow state. All the ideas hitting him at once
He moved the fabric and you glanced to see him writing something in his notebook
“August…” You asked getting his attention, his glasses sat atop his head
You nervously glanced to the desk “Uhm... are all the drawings yours?” You asked softly
“Most!” he chirped “There was this one I found when Eisha and I were riding around in the outskirts. It really called to me; I always have it on my desk I’m hoping I can make it one day!” He explained happily before showing you the drawing.

You lost it when you had to flee your home due to trash beasts. You wanted to go back for it, but your brother shoved you in the car and sped off before you had a chance to collect what flew out of your book.
The cleaners saved you, but not soon enough. Your belongings took a good beating, from that day forward you wanted to be a cleaner since it was only the few of them at the time. Finally old enough you are now a supporter not having a jinki to be a proper cleaner.
“Where… did you find it? Was it next to that old preschool? Next to that old flower shop?” You asked
Augusts seemed to light up more, his excitement obvious, "How did you know!!!"
“When I was a kid, I got evacuated and lost some of my drawings…” You explained “I use to live over there…”
August gasped and looked at the drawing “You were a wonderful artist!” He shouted, “Do you still draw outfits?”
The two of you ended up sitting and talking about all the different clothes the two of you came up with and laughing when August would say something ridiculous.

“Well, it looks like you had…” He looked at the drawing more before turning to you, you looked back at him and he smiled

“Let’s make it!” He said excited "i think this would be a awesome opportunity to get back into it!!"
“What?? This is like a drawing I did when I was 12.” You scoffed.
“Cmon don’t tell me you’re chicken!” He laughed and you shook your head
“Am not!”
The next week you and August would work on the jacket, August helped pull the jacket on you and stepped back, “There a few things we need to tweak but other than this it…” His voice faded out when you saw yourself in the mirror
You turned a bit checking how you looked, He leaned backed on the desk and smiled
You caught August starring in the mirror “oh! I’m sorry Auggy!” You said turning to him, "i didnt catch what you said.."
“No no.. Enjoy yourself, feel yourself!" He smiled
You smiled widely before turning back to the mirror, “Can I do the embroidery?” You asked
“Of course!” He laughs before stepping behind you
“Do you love it?” He asked
“I really do Auggy…” You sighed content “This… is unreal... You’re really talented I couldn’t even imagine this becoming real after I lost it...” You explained
“You helped too!” He scoffed and hugged you from behind causing you too freeze
“You’re talented and you look so good in your new outfit.” He mused
You laughed a little and relaxed into his hug and rubbed his arm “You’re sweet.”
“Only for you sugar.” He teased before squeezing you causing you to laugh
Months pasted and you were sent on a mission with the cleaners you followed Gris and Follo. You stood back when Gris grabbed a trash beast by the horns
Follo ran to help Gris, when a different trash beast charged at him causing you to try to save him when your eyes flickered, the jacket sleeves quickly stretched and snatch Follo sling shoting him back into you causing you two to collide.
Follo and you hit the ground and you both stared at each other shocked
“Did that just?” Follo asked
“Yeah?” You said as he helped you up
You two looked at Gris excited who had his hands on his hips
“Don’t tell me you’re a giver now.” He joked before patting your head
As soon as you made it back to hq you RAN to August
“Wow! There’s my fav!” He smiled before you dove into him suddenly giving him a hug causing him to let out an oof.
he happily hugged back and rambled about something that happened that day.
“I’m a giver now!” You blurted out and he stopped and looked at you
“What?” He asked confused but excited
“The jacket we made? It’s my vital instrument! I saved Follo!!” You said holding his hands tightly
August was shocked “NOOOO WAY!!!!!” he shouted
You two jumped up and down before he brought you into a bone crushing hug, “I told you you're talented” He smiled
You laughed and hugged him back, “We made a really cool jacket, Auggy.”
jason todd should never ever interact with characters who can break the fourth wall because if he does, he might find out that the world VOTED to kill him for the crime of not being dick grayson, and i fear the power of friendship will not be able to bring him out of the killing spree he’d go on
I think the way Bruce and Jason are written, and how that is mirrored in the fandom, is truly fascinating and speaks volumes.
You read the comics and see this boy: brave, sweet, talented, selfless, and truly, genuinely wonderful. Then he’s killed. Betrayed and beaten. You mourn him. But then, something happens: people start blaming the boy, the victim. They say he was hot-headed, angry, and disobedient; that he practically led himself to his own death. It’s a tragic story from start to finish, yet the narrative moves on without closure, because the story isn't really about him. A tragic tale, sure, but still- just a story. (Right?)
Then you close the book. You go online. And, to your surprise- you see real, actual people reacting to his death in exactly the same way: "Oh, he was reckless," "He was disobedient." You’re stunned; you watch people blame the boy just as the story did... and the cycle continues. The story claims he was destined to become a criminal from the start because he was hurt and angry. And people say he was destined to become a criminal from the start because he was hurt and angry. The story claims Batman tried to "save him but failed," and people parrot that, too. It’s nonsense! It’s… absurd. And you react to it: you react to the injustice. You feel compelled to point it out, to argue, to question everyone, and to get angry. And oh, let me tell you this: look back, you’re reacting exactly the way that boy reacted when he saw a girl driven to suicide, a victim. You see the parallel there, right?
And then the boy returns, he, who's a victim, only to keep being misunderstood, treated unfairly, beaten, deprived, and denied… it goes on and on. You keep reacting to that injustice, reacting to how the system and everyone else treats a victim like that; you keep getting angry, keep…
But it feels like we’ve missed something. Hold on a sec… ah. Let’s turn to our story’s protagonist. He’s built upon privilege, something the boy lacks. He is the polar opposite of the boy, within the story… and outside of it, too. He’s the "system’s" favourite, the story’s favourite, he’s written to always be right, and sometimes, others have to be trampled down just so he can stand taller. Because he has to be the strongest, the smartest, the most powerful, the greatest, and, most importantly—he has to be right. Because he embodies privilege. That privilege, both inside and outside the story—has certain effects: it blinds him to the victims within that system. And then you see this: real people who share in that privilege, so they, too, are blind to whatever lies beyond their immediate view…
Anyway, I’ve lost the thread of what I’m saying, but the way these characters are constructed, and how that reflects outward, is truly fascinating. From Jason's perspective, we, his fans, see the unfair treatment he faces in the real world, mirroring how he is treated within the story, and we react to that injustice just as he did. I think fans of Bruce, a character defined by privilege, also hold a privileged perspective; Batman is DC’s golden boy, and to elevate him, other superheroes are sometimes knocked down a peg or made to look foolish while he appears brilliant and capable. Even though he is, well, just the only human in the Justice League? And also that something like how the Green Lanterns are "afraid" of him. Bruce, occupying that position of privilege, is blind to what Jason sees and will never perceive those realities. Jason, conversely, sees them with stark clarity, and this keeps them forever at odds. Yet, what matters to me is that he did try to understand Bruce’s perspective, and he truly strove to make Bruce understand his own—something clearly evident in Under the Red Hood. Ultimately, the story demonstrated that no matter how hard Jason tried—and despite the fact that Bruce truly loved him, and that Jason wasn't merely a victim but Bruce's own son, a victim directly linked to him—the chasm between them was simply too vast to bridge. Forever opposed, forever at an impasse: one figure defined by privilege, the other by victimization, the one who the system failed.
