I'm an architect but I don't really blog about that...
I'm a big lover of folktales and fairytales, fantasy, and horror, but I also love reading about history and natural science.

Something Rotten - Mystery, fantasy, politics
When one of her peers in both nobility and academia dies under mysterious circumstances, Archmage Atia, Duchess of Tirest is devastated. Especially when police are unable to produce a cause of death and investigate what she's certain is a murder amongst Kentar's royals and elites. Determined not to let her old friend's death go unavenged, her Grace decides it's time to use her encyclopedic knowledge of magic and court politics to figure out how he was killed and who is responsible. Dahi, Lady Atia's indentured maidservant, would much prefer that her aging and infirm mistress not stay up to all hours going through magical texts and run all over the city talking to suspects. Only a year from being released from her contract, Dahi has been promised something truly unheard of by her beloved mistress: back wages for her years of faithful service. Wages she absolutely will not get if the old woman gets herself killed before the contract expires.
The Priestess and the Pirate - Romance, fantasy, swashbuckling
The Imperial Navy is a great place to hide away an illegitimate and unwanted prince. It's not quite as ideal for his attendant, Myrina, a priestess who has been tasked with keeping the young prince 'pure'. Barely older than his highness and just as delighted with the new sights and experiences of the open sea, Myrina has been struggling with the expectations of the church to keep the spare prince (and herself) from falling into the habits of the navy men they're surrounded with. When the Imperial flagship is attacked by pirates, both Myrina and her charge are captured. The pirate captain seems to be much less interested in the prince and his potential ransom than he is in prying Myrina away from her piety… but there are darker forces at work than the rakish pirate's personal desires.
This is a perfect time to read the brilliant and unforgettable graphic novel(s) Persepolis by Marjane Satrapi, about growing up in Iran during and after the Iranian Revolution, and the rise of the oppressive theocracy that persists to this day.
Both graphic novels are available free online (Persepolis vol. 1, Persepolis vol. 2)
It also was adapted to a wonderful film (co-directed and co-written by the author) which is available to watch for free on Sundance Now (sign up for the free trial)
This leopard sculpture is obvara fired! This technique involves dipping a hot piece right out of the kiln into a yeast solution, creating unpredictable and unique patterns. This sculpture will be available this Friday, June 12th at 8pm Eastern time.
