Heavy footsteps slammed against the cobbled street, slipping a bit as the perpetrator sprinted around a stone corner sharply. Heavy pants fell behind him as he dodged patrons, hearing clanks and feminine screams quickly chasing him like the NightMare of lore.
“Stop in the name of Queen Elizabeth!”
He turned his head, laughing victoriously as he slipped through buildings and dirty alleys, trying to lose the destructive "righteousness" behind him. Quickly turning another corner, he approaches a small cathedral at an intersection. He made a quick dash for the doors, bolting inside without hesitation.
He slammed the large oak doors shut, panted and sagged heavily against them. He turned his head, waited with baited breath, listening for pursuers. After what seems like an eternity, he began to breathe easy, slowly sliding down the doors to the cold stone floor. He rolled his head onto the doors, his body relaxed in exasperation.
"Son, if you keep running, you'll run right by your life." The deep voice of a vibrant Bishop echoed from around the transepts. He smiled at the panting gypsy, returning to his midday duties.
"What if my life is on the run?" questioned the large man, standing to his full height. His black hair draped over his laughing, honey colored eyes.
"Then you change it."
"Bishop, he's too far in to quit out now."
The two men turned to an olive skinned woman, coming out of the shadows of a darkened corridor. Her braided black coffee hair bounced as she walked into the light, gray eyes sparking with triumphant rage as they landed on the escape artist. She walked into the aisle, hands in the pockets of her pilot jacket, a smirk playing on her lips. “He’s been that way since we were children.”
“And who are you, my child?”
“I am the Queen’s new Captain of the Guard, Aralina Winters.” She turned to the bishop, smiling. “May I have a few minutes alone with the infamous rogue?”
“Of course.” Nodding, the bishop left, a knowing smirk on his face. His footsteps echoed through the hall as he left.
The captain paced a bit, slowly making her way towards the fleeing man. She crossed her arms before leaning on the pillar closest to her. She eyed him closely, a repelling snarl on her face.
“Tearing down the west wall of Buckingham Palace is a serious offense, Dominic Touzel. I should take you to prison on sight.”
“Yet I am still here, and you are still radiant.” He answered, stepping closer to her. She stood straighter, taking one step away from his alluring gaze. “Why haven’t you placed me in ironclads, Captain?”
“Because I have questions for you.” She let her arms fall, staring him square in the eye. “About some things you would most certainly know.”
“I don’t know what you’re talking about, love. You know everything about me so you know I have nothing to hide.” His finger propped her chin towards him, smirking devilishly. She jerked her chin away, hair rustling as she walked past.
“Don’t get cutesy with me. You know EXACTLY what I’m talking about.”
“Ah! So you still think that I am cute?”
Aralina’s face turned red for a split second, for a moment before becoming glacial once again.
“You know what I meant.”
“You’re accusing me of knowing a lot of things but you haven’t told me of my charges, Captain.”
The words dripped with flirtation and were coated in playfulness. His smirk permanently melded into his face as she turned, knowing full well what she should do.
“Well, shall we start with the wall? Your betrayal to the Crown?” She cut her eyes at him. “Or your betrayal to me?”
His face cracked, a serious expression spreading across the lines of his pale skin.
“Ah.. I don’t think I have ever seen you this speechless. I’m going to savor it as if it were a sweet treat.” The taunting smirk now rested on her lips, her advantage rising. “But we both know I’m not here for that. We both know we can’t recreate the past. Just answer me these few questions, and I will handle the rest.”
“The rest meaning my arms in iron and my head in the gallows.”
“We’ll cross that bridge when we get there.”
“Who says we’re going to get to that bridge? I could escape anytime.”
“You know that’s highly improbable. I have men surrounding the building and let’s not forget what happens when you try to outrun me.” Her smirk grew. He scoffed, rolling his eyes, yet remained in his spot. She paced around him, the smirk seeming to be a daunting tattoo on her skin. “So would you like to start from the beginning or shall I?”
“You already know the story. I wanted to kill the Queen. She is in the way of world domination and dictatorship.”
She scoffed, rolling her eyes. “Yes yes. We all know the bullshit story...” Turning, she scowled at a pillar.
His body stiffened suddenly, but he forced a vicious smile. “So you think you caught my lie? That you have figured it all out?” He chuckled. “You couldn’t be more wrong. I never cared for you.”
She laughed, her head tossed back and her hair swayed. “I wasn’t the one practically dying on the battlefront, clawing away and screaming for salvations from a German Mercenary after disappearing for years as a child.” She shook her head, facing him with cold eyes. “I was not the one who need to be nursed back to health only to be a stable boy for the Queen’s Captain of the Guard.” She stepped toward him, her voice calm and smooth. “I was not the one fumbling and flipping around like a newborn pup that needs attention. Especially after realizing our relationship started years ago.”
“We were children then. Things change.” He stated coldly.
“From what I see, you are still that child. You never grew up. ”
“Now that is enough!” He raised his fist to strike her, only to be sent to the ground by faster hands.
“Is it enough?” She continued to advance, his body taking steps back to stay out of her dangerous range. “We shall see.”
She slipped her jacket off and wrapped her hair into a ponytail, determination in her eyes. She cut her eyes at him a bit before facing him entirely.
“I won’t fight you, Aralina. We are not children anymore.”
“All the more reason to take me seriously.”
“I don’t want to hurt you.”
“Funny. I was going to say the same to you.”
Her gray eyes flashed as she held her stance. Dominic scoffed and walked to her, faking a punch at her. Slapping it away, Aralina circled him, soft footstep echoing on the high ceilings. He launched his arm. She leaned her body back, blocking and brushing it away. He faked a strike, only to follow with a punch to the stomach. She sidestepped, twisting his arm backwards before tripping him. She placed a knee on his shoulder and pinned him to the stone floor. He chuckled.
“You’ve gotten better.”
“I have always been better than you.” She released him, knowing he would try to undermine her. The same way he would undermine her as a child.
He rose, shaking his limbs. “Well then, I can stop holding back.”
She only smirked in response.
He lunged at her, a feral look in his eyes. She pivoted, swinging her leg out to kick him in his chest. He grabbed her ankle roughly, jerking it lower as his free hand moved to her. She seized the opportunity and twisted her body, bringing her other leg up to connect with his jaw. He gasped, falling back a few steps and leaning on a pew.
She stood, her breathing a bit more labored. He grabbed his shoulder, rotating it as he stood. She popped her knuckles on her right hand. He walked towards her, his pace quickened as he launched a right hand blow at her neck. She dodged, blocking with her right, only to twist his arm. Bending him over she drove her knee into his stomach. She kicked him to the ground, placing her foot on his back.
“Surrender and you will have lenient judgement in the court of the Queen.”
He snorted, taking in short breaths. Taking her victory as an advantage, he quickly rolled over, her legs landing on either side of his body. She gasped, feeling her stance falter only to fall onto her hands as he kicked her feet from under her. She looked back as he rose quickly to his feet, ready to kick her. She rolled to the side, returning into a crouching position.
“Very nice.”
He kicked at her side. She winced, faltering a bit, only to push it away and lean forward with a right hook. It connected, followed by a left uppercut. She raised her leg, slamming it down on the stone floor and she came closer to him. She elbows him in the stomach, his body jerking downward. She brought her other knee to meet his chin but he pushed it away, ramming his hand into her sore side. She bit her lip, staggering back. He advanced toward her, striking on the offensive. She blocked and pivoted, escaping most of his blows to catch her breath. He pinned her to a pillar, smirking and panting.
“Surrender now and I can overlook this little… difference.” He leaned forward, brushing his lips against her cheek. She bit her lip, looking away.
“I’d rather not.” Her open hand struck his throat swiftly, causing him to create space in-between them. She struck her fist upward, her palm connected to his jaw before a swift kick in his stomach. He groaned a bit, closing his eyes. He had only a second to react when her fist came flying towards him. He blocked sloppily, barely fending her off as she swung and kicked.
Suddenly, she stopped, a silver barrel of a Webley Revolver staring back at her. She frowned, lowering her arms.
“We’re done here.”
“You do not make the rules here.” She panted.
“I am done playing games. I shall finish my mission.”
“To kill the good Queen? You need not worry about that.”
He cocks the revolver. “And what is that?”
A lieutenant runs into the cathedral, drawing Dominic’s attention to her. She removes her hat, revealing curly, chocolate hair curled over her dark brown skin. Aralina tilted her head towards the open doors. “Yes Lieutenant Edwards?”
“We have apprehended all suspects. The plan worked marvelously, Captain.”
“Thank you, Lieutenant. Is that all?”
“Yes ma’am”
“Then you are dismissed.”
Lieutenant Edwards nodded, replaced her hat, and left the cathedral.
Aralina faced him, her smirk reappearing.
“What are you so happy about? I will finish my mission, killing you in the process.”
“You could never finish me in games. What makes you think you can now?”
“You don’t know what I’ve been through.”
“I don’t need to. I know you.”
“You’re cheezy.”
“But I’m right.” She stepped closer, smiling.
“Yes. Right at the end of this barrel.”
She shook her head before quickly grabbing the revolver, jerking his arms up while using her right leg to kick his from under him. His grip loosened as he fell and she jerked the gun away from his reach. It slammed against the pulpit, spinning and wobbling softly. They fell on the ground, his body landing on top of hers. She took his stunned body and rolled him onto his back. He regained his senses, gripping her hands tightly and tightening his thighs around hers. He rolled them, hers underneath with a successful smile on his pale face.
Aralina panted, scowling. “Get off me.”
“Not this time, sugar lumps. I like you in this light. Panting under me…” He leaned in, holding her gaze. “It’s so enticing...” His lips brushed hers.
She blinked then kissed him back, her lips moving against his. Dominic smiled. Kissing back, he felt her body relax against his, her body seeming to dissolve on the floor. With that, he relaxed his grip, his hands only hold hers as his legs spread to a more comfortable position.
Taking this opportunity, Aralina quickly shifts her body to roughly knee his stomach. He groaned, losing superiority as she grabbed his wrists and tumbled their bodies backward, slamming his back against a pew, blocking his view. She stood, flipping towards the revolver. She heard him scramble to his feet and chase her. She picked up the gun and turned, pointing it between his eyes, his hands frozen, mid-air, in front of him. She smirked.
“Now I shall not be the one to beg for mercy nor shall I be the one to give it… unless you surrender.”
Dominic raised his hands, his face solemn. “So what are my choices? Am I going to the guillotine? Or Jail then the guillotine?”
“What do you think?”
