had a dream that I met a wizard and we fell in love and became unhealthily attached to each other so we decided to meld into one single creature together but the process was horrifically slow and painful and most of the dream was us lying in bed holding hands while lesions opened up in our skin and seeped out blue and green fluid and the wizard said "this is going to take a very very long time" and I said "that's ok"
the critics are raving
whenever i see a post that says shit like "there is no trans agenda we just want to live in peace" i roll my eyes like speak for yourself amiguita because transphobes have an agenda and they are very very organized and focused in pushing it forward and if we cannot get organized and focus to fight back then trust me nobody's gonna do it for us. "there's no trans agenda" okay well maybe there should be!
The trans agenda is "we would like to be alive and not harassed and we want the people who want to get in our way of this to not get in our way of this".
people saying shit like this is literally what the post is about!!
A trans agenda from 1974
image id: a photo of a poster that's decorated with drawn flowers around the top titled "demands". said demands are as follows:
1. abolishment of all crossdressing laws and restrictions of adornment.
2. an end to exploitation and discrimination within the gay world.
3. an end to exploitative practices of doctors and psychiatrists who work in the fields of transvestism and transsexualism. hormone treatment and transsexual surgery should be provided free upon demand by the state.
4. transsexual assistance centers should be created in all cities of over one million inhabitants, under the direction of postoperative transsexuals.
5. transvestites and transsexuals should be granted full and equal rights on all levels of society and a full voice in the struggle for the liberation of all oppressed people.
6. transvestites who exist as members of the opposite anatomical gender should be able to obtain full identification as members of the opposite gender. transsexuals should be able to obtain such identification commensurate to their new gender with no difficulty, and not be required to carry special identification as transsexuals. there should be no special licensing requirements of transvestites or transsexuals who work in the entertainment field.
7. immediate release of all persons in mental hospitals or prisons for transvestism or transsexualism.
@schitzhund sorry I’m not funnier
Say it with me everyone:
Behavioral euthanasia is a valid option
oh yes, it's super valid to kill an animal because you're a fucking lazy dumbass who doesnt want to be bothered. very valid to put down an animal that YOU wanted to take care of just because you dont see it as a living being anymore. my beloved family member has a trauma? let me euthanize them, it's not like the words "animal behaviorism" actually mean something
before getting an animal you should know how to handle them and understand that there's a possibility they don't act as you wanted them to behave.
bitch wtf, i hope you never have any pets ever
Oh wow. You have completely misunderstood. I'm not talking about a dog barking a bit. I'm talking severe issues where the animals quality of life is poor and they pose a risk to humans or animals and they have not improved with professional help. Not every animal can or should be saved and owners who have tried everything in their power with no improvements are told they are horrible people who just didn't try hard enough. This is exactly the attitude and misunderstanding I am frustrated by. It's this constant idea that a behavioral euthanasia is a first line modality for minor issues. People who have had to euthanize an animal because they had huge behavioral issues have typically tried several ways to improve the animal and enlisted professional help and not had any success.
Please do read this. I'm not talking about convenience euthanasia where the dog has minor issues but isn't the right fit for that home. I'm talking about the dogs who do not improve and pose significant risk to everyone.
hi @humanhound, I’m a “fucking lazy dumbass” who had to euthanize my dog for behavioral issues less than a month ago. I poured five years of love, training, money, blood, sweat, and tears into a dog I love until finally coming to the decision, with the advice and approval of my vet and multiple trainers. My dog was a bite risk to any human other than me and to any random dog he would suddenly decide he didn’t like. He bit multiple people and I still remained in denial because I loved him so much and we’d been through so much together that I couldn’t stand the thought of letting him go. The rescue adopted him out to me at six months as a sweet, child loving, family dog and I spent FIVE YEARS accommodating his fears and trying to train away his aggression. I know how to handle dogs and I understood perfectly that this was not the dog I had wanted but that this is the dog he was. And after five years he was only getting more and more aggressive. Owners do not make this decision lightly. Trainers do not recommend this lightly. Vets do not allow behavioral euthanasia lightly. I hope you learn and find empathy before someone you know has to go through something like this.
alls i can say is this type of shit is starkly apparent and it’s disgusting.

Headline: "Nearly two-thirds of young Americans do not know that six million Jews were murdered in the Holocaust, study finds"
Text: "A new study of Americans between the ages of 18 and 39 found that 23% of respondents said they believed the Holocaust was a myth, or had been exaggerated or they weren't sure. Moreover, 63% of respondents did not know that 6 million Jews were murdered during the Holocaust."

Okay. I'm gonna refer to some viewpoints I've seen in a lot of social justice spaces over the years, both online and off.
So many people argue that "jewish privilege" causes the Holocaust to be taught in every classroom. Taught too much, I've seen people say. Everyone knows about the Holocaust, everyone believes it was bad, everyone agrees we deserved the reparations that we received. We got memorials and museums in addition.
None of those viewpoints are correct. American education about world war II is largely framed around America's heroism, and largely skirts around the horrors of the Holocaust, and the Shoah specifically. People aren't taught about Heinrich Himmler, Joseph Mengele, the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising, the many jewish militias who fought back. I don't think I've encountered a single gentile aware of the pogroms faced by the jews who returned home from the camps, many of their homes and belongings stolen by their neighbors. Of the refugee camps scattered across Europe. Even in a relatively decent school district, I've seen high schoolers who reduce the nazi racial platform as being about having blond hair and blue eyes.
As for reparations, the truth is the average descendant of survivors didn't get jack shit. Switzerland is still in possession of stolen heirlooms.
As for the memorials and museums, we built those ourselves. Because we saw this shit coming. There's a reason that "never forget" has been a rallying cry among jews pretty much since the Holocaust. But sure, call us privileged. If that's what helps you sleep at night.
I was looking at some pet food reviews (googles who makes 9lives cat food and I’m not sure that’s one of the good companies so I’m looking to switch) and man why are people so against animal byproducts. It’s perfectly good meat it’s just humans have gotten to the point where we can afford to be picky so we don’t usually cook up all the guts for ourselves. Someone’s cat or dog doesn’t care if it’s leftover meat from processing, they just want food.
Good on you for researching beforehand!
I think it’s because people don’t understand what byproducts are, exactly. So they assume they’re bad scraps of rubbish that are used to bulk out pet food which is just absolutely not the case
The irony of people wanting to feed their dog like wolves but refusing to feed byproducts kills me
“Whole-prey model” and “Meat and meat byproducts” mean the same thing, but one sells much better than the other.
Reblogging again for that excellent comment
Absolutely blows my mind that some people want to have a sense of absolute control over their dogs instead of thinking like. Wow. This living being depends on me for literally everything and I owe it to them to make their life enjoyable
people who gatekeep every single dog breed are so annoying, but especially when it’s a breed that is specially bred for or known to be good at companionship. like, gatekeeping breeds in general is stupid, but i can understand warning someone who wants, say, a big LGD about the protective instincts and potential for behavior problems or aggression if not managed right. yeah don’t be an asshole about it, but it’s reasonable to make sure people know what they’re getting into.
but people really out here gatekeeping fucking collies… really? the ubiquitous family farm dog? you’re going to go out there and claim that no actually they’re HIGH-ENERGY WORKING dogs and they NEED A JOB and INTENSE DAILY TRAINING and if you try to leave them alone for any period of time at all they will develop SERIOUS BEHAVIORAL PROBLEMS like buddy….. my guy….. literally what the fuck are you talking about. what fucking collies are you hanging around that are like this.
i’ve seen people gatekeep retired greys the same way. seen people gatekeep beagles and labradors. are people that desperate to believe that Only They can possibly manage to own a dog correctly? jesus.
I’m going to fight someone.....
My dog alpha-rolled me until I pet him.... 😔
"Unearned"
Marceline, stop! You haven’t earned this!!!
Not 2 be fuckin weird but I think the best sound in the world is when ur pettin and rubbin a big/sturdy dog and ur suddenly compelled to do those real Firm Pats™️ and it makes that nice solid “thud thud thud” noise while the dog smiles and wags his tail real hard do y’all have any idea wtf I’m talkin about??
i learned that Romans were known to create tombs for their dogs and gave them epitaphs to remember them by. One such inscription read, “I am in tears, while carrying you to your last resting place as much as I rejoiced when bringing you home with my own hands 15 years ago.” (x)
i hate the idea of certain breeds being “real” dogs bc they’re somehow more badass and sophisticated than “companion” or “pet” dogs. as if dogs didn’t literally domesticate themselves by eating our garbage. as if they didn’t develop Baby Eyes and Baby Behavior to get us to kiss them and feed them the extra good garbage.
There is a current loose movement in the United States that is deeply interesting to me. A large number of various and unconnected people in the dog world have all identified a similar problem and that is pet owners sourcing healthy, temperamentally sound dogs.
The demand for good pet dogs has only increased over time, and I think this year has really highlighted this issue, as many places around the world are seeing record increases in dog sales from retailers (rescues/shelters, pet stores, breeders, etc.) The interesting thing is, the demand seems to have changed in type. With the rise of dog shelters and the public perception of purebred dog health, consumers seem to be more aware of the issues dogs face and are therefore seeking out dogs that are behaviourally suitable and physically sound.
This is all very interesting to me and I have a big basket of different sources of people who are talking about this and many who are attempting to tackle this issue, and achieve goals like giving more support and education to dog breeders to breed healthy and behaviourally sound dogs, and giving more support to consumers to find those dogs.
Functional Dog Collaborative – a new organisation (and Facebook group) focused on supporting people to breed functional dogs. There is a podcast with lots of really great information, and the website includes a library of resources. Just before this project was launched, Dr Hekman and Trish McMillan were on DogLab discussing the issues they see in acquiring pet dogs, and touched on how they wanted to solve it – this project is that solution.
Good Dog – an organisation focused on connecting dog buyers with dog breeders and shelters to match people and dogs better. There was a great episode on Cog-Dog Radio about this.
Kim Brophey’s book Meet Your Dog: the Game-Changing Guide to Understanding Your Dog’s Behavior tackles this issue by creating a resource for consumers, ideally, before they get their dog. I’ve discussed the book before, it breaks down dogs into types rather than focusing on individual breeds to help people better understand the differences between dogs. This means that people with mixes can better understand their dogs, too, as they can look at many types.
And I think that many people are coming around to the idea that universal spay/neuter is not the answer for rescue/shelter/mixed breed dogs, as it is detrimental not only to the individual dog in many cases, but to the wider population of dogs by rapidly shrinking the gene pool. As outraged as some dog people were (including some on dogblr) about the idea of dog shelters potentially breeding dogs (which turned out to be inaccurately reported), there has been discussion amongst highly experienced and informed shelter workers in the dog world about this exact topic. Disclaimer here, I do not necessarily think that shelters should begin breeding practices, as many shelters in the United States range from extremely questionable to outright unethical, but I think this conversation is important to have because the goal of shelters should be to go out of business. And then what? The focus is back on breeding dogs.
Who is having these conversations? Trish McMillan, for one, who makes some really good observations about shelters and pet dogs on the Functional Dog Breeding podcast. And Sue Sternberg on Michael Shikashio’s podcast The Bitey End of the Dog, who has been in the shelter world since the 80s and has made similar observations and come to similar conclusions.
All of these conversations and resources have made me think strongly about where I see the dog world headed. I do not think that we are headed to an animal rights fantasy future of no pet dogs. The demand for dogs is too high for that to be realistic. So, I think dogs will always be in high demand and therefore we should focus on making sure the dogs that we bring into this world are physically healthy, behaviourally sound and bred for function (whether that function is working on a farm or being a pet in a city). I also realistically believe that what we refer to as “backyard breeders” will always exist, as they have always existed. And organisations like Good Dog and Functional Dog Collaborative are needed to bring education and support to those people. Maybe if they have this education and support, there won’t be a need for shelters (as these are the types of dogs that anecdotally end up in shelters).
Personally I would like to see this movement reach Australia. I would like to see and end to inflammatory social media posts aimed at deepening the perceived divide between people who “rescue” and people who “buy”. I would like to see connections made between government bodies, local councils, veterinarians, dog trainers, dog breeders, kennel clubs and shelters. My utopia is a community hub where people can get access to good dogs (either via a shelter or a breeder), find a good trainer, find a good vet, learn about activities they can do with their dog, and get support if they are interested in breeding. Instead of demonising someone who loves their pet dog and wants to breed them to make more, we would talk to them about their goals and expectations and offer education and access to what they need (vet care, health testing, etc.)
The ongoing relationship between humans and dogs is deeply important to me. We have, in many ways, dug ourselves into many holes (as we have in all things on this planet). I am glad to see there are many clever and compassionate people who are seeking the solutions.
Sometimes when I am talking to someone about the ADA service dog law I can tell that they are judgmental about how "loose" the requirements are and I never know how to explain like... No... That is the beauty of it...
The frustrating thing is that the problems we have in the US aren't due to our legislation being lax but actually due to people not KNOWING the contents of the legislation... Business owners explicitly have recourse in the ubiquitous "lady has an aggressive dog with a fake vest that is completely untrained and misbehaves in the store/cafe/whatever", they just don't know the fucking law so they generally go "oh no I CANT ask that person to leave, they have a VEST on their dog" and then a month later tell legit handlers that now NO dogs are allowed bc of some bad apples or whatever, which, is illegal,
The focus on 'fakes' distracts from the main point which is that ANY dog which is not under the handler's control can and should be asked to leave. Whether the dog is task trained is actually not relevant and doesn't make sense to focus on. A service dog must be under the handler's control, period.
I just... Wish.... There was any education at all about the ADA... Sigh
