TMNT 2003 S4E13 Leosagi Analysis.
Okey, since people really like my ramblings. Here's the episode I'm fucking screaming at now. Leosagi time and HOW MUCH MY FUCKING BOY NEEDS THIS AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
I initially took this smile to mean he's happy to be back with his friends. But knowing now that Splinter had called him over because Leo wasn't doing well mentally, I can see the "okay, what am I in for, what does Leoardo-san need?"
THIS IS THE FIRST TIME I'VE SEEN HIM SIMILE IN THE PAST 13 EPISODES LOOK AT HIM HE'S SO HAPPY TO SEE HIS RABBIT BF!!!!!!!!
It could all be just the weird art style or animation. But here his smile seems a bit strained. Like "Ah yes, this fucker clearly has a dark cloud over his head."
"You honor us with your presence, Miyamoto Usagi."
"Thank you, sensei. After witnessing your holiday festivities, I've decided I would like to see more of your world."
Mf acting like Splinter didn't just shoot an equivalent of a "come quick, my son is major depresso rn and needs an emergency hug." text.
"You traveled through the Battle Nexus?"
"No, Leonardo-san. An old friend aided me in the ritual so that we can come directly to this world."
I question, who exactly is that old friend? Never mind, LOOK AT LEONARDO SMILE HE'S SO HAPPY TO SEE HIS FRIEND!!!!!!
LOOK AT HIM IN HIS COOL GUY GLASSES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I love that neither he nor Gen had changed their clothes. He's just wearing sunglasses in the middle of the night for no reason. Look at him being a little badass.
"I'm sorry, Michelangelo. Tell me again what this is made out of."
This is supposed to be a Leosagi ramble post. But I fucking love Usagi so much. He should've gotten his own show. I need to see more of him.
Oh, poor Leo. Don't get jealous because your brother's showing him NY instead of you.
This isn't the first time Leo's just kind of been off in his own head while doing activities with the others. He joins in whatever antics are going on, but he barely engages with the activities. Clearly, he has some depression going on, and for his family to see this and either don't know what's going on or don't know how to help him. It always hurt. Clearly, he's hurting.
THEY'RE JUST WATCHING THE TRAIN GO BY. THIS IS CUTE!!! It's also cute that each of the turts is shown their friends things they like about the city, and this was Donnie's choice. Donnie just likes to sit there and watch the train. That's incredibly cute to me. Have I told you I've been screaming this whole episode because of this fucking rabbit?
"The sharpest blade in all the lands is useless in undertrained hands. But I wonder what they say about overtrained hands."
"Usagi. I didn't think anyone would be awake this early after last night."
"I wanted to speak to you alone, Leonardo-san. Your eyes betray you. They show me the oppressive burden you have chosen to burden."
YES YES YES YESYES YESYSEYESYESYSEYSEYSEYSEYSEYSESEY FINALLY LEO GETS TO FUCKING TALK ABOUT WHAT'S BEEN GOING ON WITH HIM!!! 13 long ass episodes of poor Leo either being sad, angry, or out of it. With only one chance to actually talk to someone, April, and that wasn't even that long of a talk. Just got a glimpse until a random radiated fish lady interrupted them. Now Leo gets to actually talk about his issues with mother fucking Usagi of all people!!!
"Someone has to carry it."
That fucking side eye. That playful ass side eye and the eyebrow quirk. That "no bitches?" fucking dreamworks face. He knows damn well what Leo's about to ask
Have I mentioned how much I love Usagi? Just look at him and his little stance.
"My family needed me, and I couldn't save them. I was useless. I wasn't good enough."
Finally, my baby Leo gets this out. In the only language his swordtism ass knows how to speak.
"I understand your fear and anger in this, Leonardo-san. My own master was cut down in battle."
And here Leo looks away after hearing that and Usagi's eyes go soft after noticing Leo's reaction.
I am so angry that Usagi didn't get his own animated show. I don't have access to the comics, and I desperately want to read them. Usagi is such an intresting character. I would've loved to follow his story. Don't get me wrong, I love Yuichi. But the Usagi Chronicles just don't have this serious tone to it that 03 turtles gives Miyamoto. Chronicals just feels very kiddyified compared to this. Which isn't inharently bad. Usagi Chronicales stands out on it's own. But I wish we could've had this Usagi.
But as far as I know. This is probably just as therapeutic for Usagi to talk about the death of his master. Let the boys have therapy.
I like how Usagi is drawn in all scenes he's in. But I especially love how he eases up right here. Leo's anger at himself, and he and Raph are definitely related in how they deal with that anger. That's why Leo chose to spar out his feelings rather than just a talk to talk. And while Usagi clearly loves a good fight. It was not how he dealt with his hurt. He's more willing to be open and vulnerable with his emotions. Which is why the fighting stopped here.
"It was my duty to protect him. I, too, failed."
LEO GIVE YOUR RABBIT BF A FUCKING HUG PPPLLLLEEEASAAASSSEEEE YOU BOTH NEED IT!!!
"I'm sorry. I didn't know."
I love that Leo also eases up and stops fighting. He seems taken aback. He's giving Usagi his full attention.
"Fear, failure, and the lives we lead. These things are inevitable-"
"That is the true test of our character."
That's the closest to a hug that Leo is gonna get from him. Which is good enough for me. Masculine vulnerability and softness weren't invented until 2012, so we'll just give these two time to warm up to it.
"I know. But, it's just that I-"
MICHELANGELO YOU FUCK OFF RIGHT NOW YOUR BROTHER IS FINALLY GETTING SOME WELL-NEEDED THARAPY FROM HIS THARAPY RABBIT!!!!!!!!!!
AaAaAaAaAaAaAaAaAaAaAaAaAaAa I reached the image limit for this. I'll reblog with the rest of the leosagi moments in this episode
