i was watching the karaoke scene again last night and genuinely like it fucks me up

bc in no way can be read that she was always gonna send grace on the hail mary, or that she suspected or knew she was going to have to send him.

when she sings, it is absolutely to him, but it's to reassure him that she knows she's going away but that she's coming back. she's telling him to hang in there, that it's going to be hard but that she believes in him and that she will come back when the time is right and they'll meet again somewhere far away from here.

that's the captain of the ship telling her first mate "youre gonna have to run things when im gone but its okay bc i believe in you and youre gonna do fine. I'll be back soon."

she KNOWS she's a scapegoat. she's been planning for her arrest and eventual escape the whole time on the backburner.

and then the disaster happens and she has to send her second in command, her friend, to his death or they all die.

and suddenly there is no more "we'll meet again someday" bc she's never gonna see him again. even if everything goes to plan and she escapes and the beetles arrive with a solution-- she loses grace forever.

if that doesnt just fucking gut you, if youre too busy being mad at her for killing grace to appreciate the fucking tragedy that is their relationship, you are missing out on some prime angst.

Go harass Mu Qingfang obviously - though the doctor just sighs at him and tells him that particular poison requires dual cultivation with one's true love and "I cannot make you love your wife Luo Binghe."

That can't be the only solution, and after pestering him more Mu Qingfang agrees to introduce LBH to a colleague who might be able to help.

Immortal Master Shen ("No relation.")MQF explains as they head to a nearby mountain, was trained on CQMS along side MQF's Shizun and is an expert in handling the kind of poison affecting Binghe's wife.

"So he's an expert in dual cultivation?" LBH asked.

"Not at all," MQF said. "Please be mindful that Master Shen has been in seclusion for many years and only emerged recently."

(Shen Yuan transmigrated in early as an NPC, decided to focus on medicine - and then missed the whole plot because he got stuck in a cave in. At least his cultivation is really high now.)

LBH can't help but stare at the ethereal person they find gardening outside a hut in the woods. Master Shen Yuan looks... similar to his old master, but not identical. And they couldn't act less alike. SY listens to LBH's dilemma, asks what type of poison it was, and then says he can probably fix the issue.

"How?" LBH asks because he's still under the impression that papapa is the only solution.

"Oh most of the time you can just stimulate the right nerves or induce fission and that works too- it should for this poison."

"What about the true love requirement?"

"Oh that's easy," SY says. "One true love doesn't exist."

So they all head back to Wife 23, SY says everyone can stay in the room while he works so MQF and LBH settle in.

SY sits at the Wife's bed side and takes her hand. They talk for nearly an hour, about her- her interests and hobbies, where she's from, her family...

(Oh right, LBH remembers now, demon fish princess, married to form an alliance with her tribe who control one of the demon realm's few rivers)

Eventually SY pulls out a guqin and starts playing a song for her. LBH doesn't recognize it, but it reminds him of running water somehow, and when the song crescendos his wife gasps and then starts crying. LBH has been monitoring his wife with his blood mites, and he feels the poison fade as SY ends his song.

Once he's done he tucks her in and tells her to rest, she'll feel better soon.

LBH waits until they all leave her to ask. "So you're my wife's true love?"

SY tuts,"I told you, it doesn't exist- so the poison or curse or whatever it is can't actually be looking for it. What they're looking for instead is intent and the desire to protect. You have to want to be her true love and want to help her."

"You want to be her true love?"

"I did in there-most people are so lovable when you look closely. She's a sweet girl, and she was scared. How could I not love her? Of course I wanted to help her stay safe and healthy. "

He smiles and speaks softly and there's no judgement in his tone. Nothing at all about Luo Binghe's failure to love this woman as he should. He pats Binghe's arm as he leaves and tells him to come by if he needs anything else.

Luo Binghe retires to his study to think over the entire exchange... ... there's definitely poisons or aphrodisiacs that still effect Heavenly Demons right? 🤔

I still want to write the fic where an outsider has all these preconceptions about what the Force is and then goes into a room with a bunch of Jedi who are tearing into each other like bitchy old academics.

#I’m 100% into this and want annual conferences about the force and what it means to be a jedi#everyone keep asking very passive-aggressive questions after every presentations#at one point a lecturer says ‘I know this because the Force told me so’ instead of listing their sources and the whole room groans#a scholar who isn’t force-sensitive shows up and half of the jedi are like ‘who even is this guy’#a LOT of rage is being released in the force at the same time#the only moment everyone in the room makes an appreciative noise is when the lunch break is announced#a huge debate blows up during the break because someone mentions it could be good to invite a nightsister next year#someone storms off mumbling about heresy and not taking part in this debacle @obiwanobi

yes please I need more jedi symposiums with knights who had different views than consulars who have different views than shadows. Temple-centered jedi versus those who lead frequent diplomatic or medical missions versus exploratory and research jedi who spend most of their time in uninhabited wild space and the outer rim.

There is absolutely no way an organization that large doesn’t have factions that understand the force differently–my 15-person philosophy class couldn’t agree on a single thing we read all term.

#Obi wan was pissed that his past presentation on Jedi/Mandalorian cultural parallelism was laughed out#so he put Anakin up to it just to send the room into a tailspin#Anakin LOVED it#he got to sword fight an eighty year old snake#and force chuck a dude into a wall#he officially never misses one of these anymore#every year he just goes up and says the most controversial thing he can to get the room to riot#the year after its ‘the more midichlorians you have the closer you are to the force’#he almost got stabbed by an old monk from the far side of dantooine#for that one#the council keeps letting him speak because it’s way less embarrassing to blame the fights on Skywalker#than admit everyone at an academic conference wants to murder each other#they did get a Nightsister to come to the conference btw#it was very enlightening and everyone liked her#the problem was that Anakin’s presentation that year was#‘master/student bonds are no different than lovers bonds in the force’#and#the Nightsister took REAL offense to that#Anakin is like 30% sure he got cursed#totally worth it for the look on Obi-Wan’s face tho#the Nightsister came back the next year#she brought friends!#they’re not sure if she did that because they were interested in the academics or if she wanted backup to beat the shit out of Anakin#but the council likes both cases#so they see this as an absolute win!
