The iron hook slid free from his shoulder with a wet metallic shriek. Something black and arterial splashed across the stones between them.

The torturer stepped back instinctively. Not out of mercy. Out of surprise. The prisoner laughed. Not loudly. Worse than loudly. Softly. Like he had just remembered a private joke older than civilization.

“You still think pain is a language,” he said.

Another blow. This time across the mouth. Teeth cracked. Blood sheeted down his chin in long ribbons.

The interrogator hissed through clenched teeth. “Tell me where God went.”

The prisoner turned his head slowly. There was blood in his smile now.

“There are organisms,” he said, “living beneath Antarctic ice that have never seen the sun and have still learned how to eat.”

The room had gone very still. Somewhere in the dark, machinery groaned.

The interrogator grabbed him by the jaw hard enough to bruise bone.

“You think this makes you immortal?”

The prisoner spat a clot of red onto the floor between them.

“No,” he whispered.

“I think it makes you temporary.”

The torches flickered.

For one impossible second, the interrogator became aware of his own pulse. The heat in his veins. The soft wetness of his eyes. The damp animal electricity inside every living thing. The prisoner watched realization bloom across his face and smiled wider, blood running between his teeth.

“You cannot threaten a creature from the dirt,” he said, “with returning to the dirt.”

once again if a Jew deviates from what you consider to be politically correct you then feel absolutely fine calling them slurs ... The issue was NEVER their politics or beliefs. The issue was their Jewishness and you're a antisemite.

Yes this is about the Pitt fandom. Of course it's about the Pitt fandom. The amount of times I've seen zio used as a slur against Noah Wyle either implicitly (I'll use it if he steps out of the lines I've drawn) or explicitly (he's a Jew and I hate him) is insane.

i hope Noah Wyle et al. make Robby more Jewish on the show in response to the hate. I hope Robby wraps Teffillin at the start of episode one. I hope he shares Opinions on the best deli. I hope he gets called for a minyan request in the hospital. I hope his rabbi shows up and Robby's dodging him in the fishbowl of an ED department. I hope somebody asks him about Jesus Christ and he says "not my department." I hope somebody tries to talk to him about sin and he's just confused. I hope he makes an off joke about Catholicism to Jack. I hope he says the nighttime shema in the final episode, finally having gained a little bit of peace.

Every time an author reassures readers that the smut is skippable I sigh a disappointed sigh. This is not a reassurance. Why would anybody who likes smut want to read smut that was only included as an afterthought and has no impact on the narrative? Insulting. Just don't write it at all if you're not going to make it matter.

Like 85% of tumblr users hate and loathe embarrassment based comedy with every fiber of their beings, but never in my life have I ever seen an author reassure their audience that the embarrassing scenes are skippable.

Lots of people dislike tragedy but never in my life have I ever seen an author reassure the audience that the death and grieving scenes are skippable.

Stop trying to pass off self-censorship as “accommodation.” Stop trying to pass off pandering as “inclusivity.”

Your audience can smell your fear, and it smells rancid.

Natalie Portman and French directors Justine Triet (Anatomy of a Fall) and Jacques Audiard (Emilia Perez) have joined an open letter condemning the cultural boycott of Israeli director Nadav Lapid.

Lapid was set to attend the Marseille International Film Festival in July as part of the jury, but pulled out following pressure from pro-Palestinian filmmakers, who threatened to withdraw their films from selection if Lapid took part.

The Israeli director is a sharp critic of Benjamin Netanyahu’s government and has lived in France since 2021. His last feature, Yes, is a scathing satire on the radicalization of contemporary Israeli society and the complicity of the country’s artistic community in the killings in Gaza and the West Bank. But because the film was partially financed by the Israeli Film Fund, some pro-Palestinian activists have accused Lapid of complicity with the Israeli government and called for a boycott of him and his work.

On Monday, more than 350 leading figures in the French film industry, including producers Saïd Ben Saïd (Elle) and Judith Lou Lévy (Dahomey), along with directors Stéphane Demoustier (The Great Arch) and Mati Diop (Atlantics, Dahomey), signed an open letter, published in French newspaper Le Monde calling the cultural boycott of Lapid “an intellectual failure.”

“That Israel’s greatest dissident artist [who] tirelessly denounces the fascist and colonialist tendencies of his government and its criminal moral failings in films that have won awards worldwide, should be forced to withdraw from a French festival should alarm us and mobilize us beyond this absurdity,” the letter reads. “It should alert us to the obvious truth: whatever crimes their state may commit, no one can be reduced to a passport.”

The letter’s signatores argue that Lapid, like dissident Russian or Iranian filmmakers, should not be held accountable for “crimes committed by governments they are often the most fervent critics of.” Continuing to invite these artists to festivals, they say, puts more political pressure on authoritarian regiemes than boycotting them. They point to Russian director Andrey Zvyagintsev, who won the Grand Prix in Cannes last month for Minotaur and used the ceremony to call on Vladimir Putin to “end the carnage” in Ukraine.

Assad said in an interview that the assertion "Armand turned Daniel out of spite" is simply how Louis sees it. So it's not necessarily the truth (ofc), but also that Louis doesn't know the truth.

Eric recently teased (spoiled?) past devil's minion by saying someone else had been in Daniel's life the whole time, but he didn't remember it 👀

Rolin confirmed Luke Brandon Field won't be in season 3, but he made it seem like he might be in season 4.

They're still planning a Night Island show! I think if they wait for a hot sec (like, at least after season 4), it could more heavily feature Daniel and Armand. Cuz they KNOW the fans are fucking ravenous for devil's minion.

Daniel admits in TVL episode 1 that he's overdosed in the past.

I might need to read it again, but in chapter 1 of Daniel's memoir (which describes Daniel's life shortly before and after the Divisadero Incident), Daniel makes himself out to be overly confident. That he's just having fun with drugs. That he doesn't have a problem. But he writes it like his younger self was a dumbass and foreshadows future issues.

THEREFORE! ☝️I think that Armand left Louis for a while after the Divisadero Incident. Whether they were literally broken up, on a break, or simply physically separated, I'm not sure. Armand hinted at wanting to leave Louis in s2e5, and I think he was really tired of being Louis's keeper.

In the book, Armand and Louis kinda do their own thing, even when they are companions. They were still technically together when Louis reunited with Lestat in New Orleans.

During this period of separation, I think this is when Armand stalks Daniel and eventually falls in love with him. I think they buy Night Island like in the book. I think that Daniel OD's at least once while he and Armand are still together. It could be this that makes Armand ultimately erase his memories.

I think Louis is wholly ignorant of devil's minion during this time. Which like.... whew boy! When he finds out!

ANYWAY, this is great news for me personally! Let's just say I'm actually super happy I got a little stuck while writing "You're my matador" cuz now I have NEW IDEAS for where I want the plot to go!!! I might have to make a whole ass series lmao

This has always been part of my hc about how they kept it from louis. I think Jacob said during an interview that he thinks louis and armand were not alway together. I think that in the show, Daniel goes to New Orleans to try to find Lestat, just like in the books, and finds Armand instead. I think the chase happens, they fall in love, Night Island is acquired, the main plot points of DM from the books. But I also think that Armand would occasionally leave Daniel to return to Louis. Hell, there's precedent for it in the books, "Daniel had spent a long quiet summer in southern Italy during which he had not seen his demon familiar even once." Who's to say that he isn't going to check in with Louis? But I think that Daniel was also aware of Armand leaving him for Louis and it spirals out of control, leading to Daniel OD'ing and a memory wipe from Armand for Daniel.
