Only one week left to place your US orders from my etsy shop if you're hoping to receive them in time for Christmas! Though, sooner would be better - the unpredictable arrival of my first baby might delay my ability to ship things out on time!Â
Order by December 15th (for packages shipping within the United States) to give me a good chance to get them to the post office in time! http://fairweatherfriends.etsy.com
Today is the last day to take advantage of the @dftbarecords holiday sale and get 20% off all of the t-shirts in my DFTBA merch store! All of the shirts in my store feature lyrics from my Harry Potter-inspired songs, so they’d make an awesome gift for any Harry Potter fans you know (or a great addition to your own holiday wishlist!).Â
These shirts make great nerdy conversation starters, especially if you want to meet new people who get the references. Visit dftba.com/lauren to get them for 20% off!Â
From Black Friday through Cyber Monday, use code “addscarf” at checkout in my etsy shop, Fairweather Friends, to add a free felt scarf to each of the plushies in your order. My handmade plush toys already make lovely gifts on their own, but look how cute and wintery these tiny scarves are!Â
Visit fairweatherfriends.etsy.com now to buy some adorable handmade items to give as gifts this season! This promotion ends at 11:59pm EST on 11/30.
I’m hosting a holiday promotion this weekend in my etsy shop, Fairweather Friends! Until Monday night, you have the opportunity to dress up the handmade plushies you buy from me with one of the adorable little scarves they’re wearing in the picture above.Â
While at @vidcon, @laurensmiles and I filmed THREE videos together for my channel, her channel, and @hgtvhandmade. Click here to watch them all and let me know which was your favorite! ✨
I had so much fun making all of these videos with Karen!Â
They’re here! Newly redesigned versions of a bunch of my handmade plushies are now available in my etsy shop. I can’t even explain to you how soft these are - I can’t pick one up without smiling, no matter how tough a day I’ve been having.Â
Their patterns have been completely reworked so I could start making them using this incredibly soft minky cuddle fabric and I’m really happy with the way they came out. In addition to the new products, you’ll find Fairweather Friends sporting a new banner and shop icon along with matching product photos for all of the new plushies.Â
All of these (except the otter; he’ll be showing up once the last fleece one finds a home) are characters that were previously sold out in my shop - some, for about a year! The wolves, owls, penguins, and foxes haven’t been available since this summer and the grumpy little polar bear hasn’t made an appearance since February. I’m especially excited to welcome back Eleanor the white rabbit, who sold out on black friday of 2014 and has finally returned to the shop this week with a brand new shape and coat.Â
Half of the new foxes I made are already gone, so it’s possible that these could sell quickly. I’ll try to keep up with making the ones that sell out, but the best way to make sure that you get to take home your favorite is to buy one sooner than later. Visit fairweatherfriends.etsy.com for more plushie photos, cute stories about each character, and to see the lovely new branding I designed!Â
I’m super excited to finally get to show all of you what I’ve been making for Fairweather Friends lately! More designs including some totally new characters are coming soon.Â
Learn to make a Halloween bow headband or bowtie with my new DIY tutorial! This craft is mostly assembled with hot glue, so if you’re looking for a cute no-sew project, just skip over the hand-stitched spiderweb details.Â
It’s also part of a collaboration with a bunch of other Kin Community creators like me, so you can watch the whole playlist for more spooky DIY projects and recipes right here.Â
For a list of materials you’ll need and more information on the project, read the video description on youtube.Â
A bunch of the plushies I design and make for my etsy shop are references to the Harry Potter books! So naturally, they can sometimes be found hanging out on my bookshelves.
These three are inspired by Draco’s brief stint as a ferret, a barn owl that delivers the mail, and Hermione’s otter patronus - and all of them are nearly sold out in my etsy shop, Fairweather Friends. Only one or two of each are left, so if you’d like to take one home, visit fairweatherfriends.etsy.com.
Do you have any Fairweather Friends plushies? If you’d like to share a photo of their natural habitat with me, consider submitting it at shopfairweatherfriends.tumblr.com/submit!
My etsy shop, Fairweather Friends, now has its own dedicated tumblr! Follow @shopfairweatherfriends for crafty behind the scenes photos, sneak peeks at new products I'm making, and plenty of adorable plushies to add some handmade love to your tumblr feed.
Learn to make this adorably fluffy, Harry Potter-inspired pygmy puff plushie with my newest DIY tutorial video! This cute little guy would make a great gift for any Harry Potter fan you know (including yourself!). For the pattern, a list of materials, and links to more detailed sewing tutorials for all of the stitches I used, read the video description on YouTube.
My new "It's Real for Us" t-shirt is now available online at DFTBA.com! Click here to buy one.
This is a video of my GeekyCon live performance of the song I wrote for Harry Potter fans about finding people who understand you. It's real for us. I also just released my "It's Real for Us" t-shirt online - it is now available for purchase on DFTBA.com! The shirt was designed by the wonderful Kristine Thune.
I collaborated with my friend Kristina Horner (italktosnakes on tumblr) to make a video sharing our tips for filming videos at conferences like VidCon! I regularly have difficulty in finding a balance between documenting an event and enjoying things in the moment. I'd be especially interested in hearing from other YouTube creators about this topic - how do you make sure you film enough at a conference without hiding behind your camera or worse, making your friends feel uncomfortable? Do you have any tricks that you can share with me?
I came home from VidCon this year feeling so inspired and energized by the YouTube community. Here's my video about my experience there!
New Q&A video featuring dream craft projects, videos of my cats, and more! Thank you to everyone who sent in questions for me to answer.
Poll time!
If you could ask a bunch of youtubers at VidCon the same question, which question would you ask?
Back in May, I sold my handmade plushies and necklaces at a Harry Potter-themed craft fair called the Bewitching Bazaar in NH (it was part of the HP conference MISTI-Con)! I had a really great time and I even ended up buying a few things myself. Here's a video I made about the experience!
