It's New To Me

I'm a college student which means I'm on a budget. I work as a manager at a gym and most of my money goes to bills and groceries at Market Basket (which includes raman and MB brand). Now that I live in an apartment at college I want to be able to decorate my dorm living room with more than just posters of Taylor Lautner (which hangs in my bed room along with a Chris Evans poster....). What better way to find cheap affordable decorations to hang than at antique shops. Not only are most of the items that my roommate and myself find cheap but they are unique and make our dorm living room feel a lot more homey.

I don't know about you guys but I like having flowers in my room and even have a potted plant on the window sill. (My flower vase is a wine bottle I decorated from my 21st birthday).

This is a cool cheap way to add some spice in your room.

Find some frames from a shop and head over to Home Depot and buy some chairs for a max $5 and get a bit crafty and you have hanging shelves for books, decorations, or pictures.

Turn your Antique into something cool

So while I was at Salt Marsh Antiques I saw this

An old tea cup filled with wax and a wick to make it into a candle! It was a bit over priced but you could find a cool tea cup or coffee cup and go to a craft store and buy wax (come in different colors and smells). Then add a wick or put a popsicle stick so when it burns it sounds like a campfire.

As cool as it is inside it is pretty expensive for a college student on a budget.

They have some cool items that would help spruce up any dorm room but they are a bit on the expensive side.... Actually they are expensive

They also have a variety of framed photos and art work. Some are decently priced while others could use some haggling.

Nautical finds and then some...

The great White Elephant antique shop does not have just one shop, it has 2. The 2nd location is 5 minutes down the road and is considered the outlet store. They have a room full of items of all sorts all 75% off.  My roommate and I found the following decorations for only $10 all together.

A cool find!

Now I know this isn't a decoration but for me it's a cool find and even haggled the price. It was marked 25% off which came to $25 which I wasn't going to pay so I made an offer of $12 and GIT IT!!

Now your thinking what is IT?

IT is an archive card set with 2 full sets (set 1 containing 100 cards, set 2 containing 50 cards). Each card has information of each horse including their get. I show Morgan Horses and this to me is a cool find and these archive cards are no longer made and are older than me but look brand new.

Past, Present, Future

Now this shop is kind of pushing the limits of being part of the 'Northshore' but it's worth the trip and you can get some great finds. Located in Seabrook, N.H.(see not even in MA but it is only 15-20 minute   ride from Todd's Farm and is worth the trip and there are a few places along the way to stop as well)

Inside it is set up like a flea market with each section owned by a different dealer.  Best part is even at such great prices each dealer has even more deals. This sections is 50% off

There are some cool items in here that would look awesome in any room

Cool Chairs

Check these out! Chairs made from old liquor barrels and there comfy to sit on. Once cleaned up these would look great in anyone's dorm living room. As I was walking by someone was trying to get the set for only $100 and the dealer wasn't putting up much of a fuss.

Todd's Farm PART II

In addition to the barn there is an outdoor flea market that covers the rest of the property. You can find some really cool things. The best part about all this is that these are just regular people who are trying to sell what they see as junk but can become your treasure. So no price is final! If you see a photo or picture but it is a bit out of your price range try and haggle the price down. Some of the things need a little work.

Like these old wooden boxes. You can leave them as is, paint them, or add a little varnish and there as new. You can stack them for a bookcase or just use them as storage. These were only $5 and seeing as they were carrying other items I'm sure you could haggle a bit.

If your looking for something to hang on your wall there are tons of paintings or photos. Some framed some just on canvas. All at great prices that you can even haggle.
