Gun Control in America
I’m a 16 year old sophomore at a public high school in TN. I live in the one county in TN who didn’t choose Trump back in the 2016 primaries, but the majority of people are still very conservative. The past week at school every teacher and the administrators have been talking constantly about what to do in case of a shooting. I shouldn’t be scared to go to school! Schools should be a place of learning and free thought. Places to grow and express yourself. The students from Parkland should not have to use the media attention from going through a school shooting to get politicians to listen. Gun Control is necessary. My grandparents, big in their 70’s told me “think about the other side” when I mentioned we need stricter background checks. The other side? The other side are the people who ARE shooting schools. Everyone should be on the side of gun control. I don’t want to worry that when I’m a library worker, sitting next to our library’s glass wall in the commen area of my school that i’m not safe. Every teenager should feel like their life is safe at school. More guns won’t solve anything. And please don’t think because i’m a teen or in gen-z that i’m immature or stupid. I’ve had to grow up fast the past few years as my country became a dystopian society like the ones i’ve read about in books my whole life!
Now as a teacher in the Northeast- being on the teacher side is also terrifying cause what do you mean I’m supposed to try and protect almost 30 students at once if anything happens …
