Stepping on the scale after 4 weeks of summer associate lunches and happy hours
When Law Firm Friends are Shocked at the Extravagance of Other Law Firm Friends' Social Events
Time Lapse of Me During Finals Period
This never becomes less true.
when I’m studying and someone sits right next to me despite there being several empty tables
Trying to study for a closed book exam
When I see 1Ls Stressing in the Library During Exam Period
Questions:
1) Who is responsible for scheduling this class to start at 7 p.m.
2) Why am I taking a class that starts at 7 p.m.
Discuss.
WHY DO WE SIGN UP FOR NIGHT CLASSES AND PRETEND LIKE IT’S NOT GOING TO BE THE WORST THING EVER? (Mine is like a fucking group skype 2 hours a week at 5:30 on wednesdays)
Corporate tax, on a Thursday 6-9pm. Why? Because I hate myself.
Can someone please reblog this when its about time to register for Fall classes, because I swear I never learn.
Guys I did it again.
“There’s so many other things you can do with a Law Degree!”
When you click ‘next’ on Netflix even though you have a deadline at midnight
When the case for the day's class revolves around a politician who personally put me in Gitmo:
Wait what
So, I’m in a bit of a bind- the plan was to work at a firm for a year (done), travel the world for two more, take the LSAT and recs I got right out of college and apply to law school, and attend the best place that would take me. Life happened, my mom is sick, it might be terminal. I’m coming home from life abroad and starting work back at my old firm, but I live in Texas- there ain’t shit for the caliber of law school I want in this state but UT and I’m terrified I won’t make the cut. I guess my question is, what’s the best way to do this? Law school isn’t a doubt in my mind, but I worked all through my undergrad 30+ hours a week and it shows through my GPA (they don’t count my community college scores, so it’s like a 3.3.) I’ll have enough time + cash to take a really good LSAT prep course and bump up my 161 to something more substantial, but I’m starting to think that getting a fat ride to Houston or Tech and transferring in might be better. Advice? - Anon
First of all, shit happens. I’m sorry to hear about your mom. Stuff like that throws everything else out the window in ways that might not make sense to a third party observer, so definitely take everything you see/hear with a grain of salt.
You need to make the decision yourself. Do you absolutely want to go ahead and go to law school now, or would you not mind going a little later? Would you be the primary caretaker for your mom? Can you handle 1L and being someone’s primary caretaker at the same time? Do you want to? How much of a difference would it really make between you going to the best school you can get into in another state (and coming back to take the Texas bar, maybe) vs. staying within Texas (a bigass state, so you might not even be that close to home anyway)? Can you promise you won’t resent her if you are unhappy with your law school experience?
As far as my opinion goes, NEVER bank on transferring. People who come into law school with the highest GPAs and LSAT scores do not necessarily make it to the top of the 1L class, because neither undergrad GPA nor the LSAT is indicative of how you would write law school exams compared to your peers in your particular class.
All of this is pretty premature, anyway. Study for and take the LSAT first. Your score is good for few years, and you’ll get a clearer idea on what exactly you’re looking at law school-wise. Good luck.
100% agree, but also want to add that I think the LSAC GPA does count community college grades.* I don’t know first hand, but I’ve heard horror stories of peoples community college classes they took in high school ruining their GPA.
*Unless you took the community college classes after you received your bachelors degree. Then they stop counting.
"To be a good lawyer you have to be a good writer."
Yeah, okay, tell that to whoever wrote this brief and filed it in federal court:
Sad part is this brief would be in the upper 50th percentile in writing quality out of the briefs I've read for my district court.

I cringe every time I see this because of “@”s starting near the bottom. I guess instead of complaining could delete the “@”s and reblog it without . . . Oh well, too late now.
