Trying out the SkinnyMint Teatox: Currently on day 6!
I looked into a bunch of different cleanses and detoxes before buying this one. It seemed legit, they had all the information I wanted to know on their website, there was a huge amount of progress photos AND it seemed easy enough that I could manage it with my busy schedule.
You just drink the morning boost tea in the morning, and the night cleanse every other night. SkinnyMint can be used as a 14 day or 28 day program. You don't HAVE to change your diet or workout routine but obviously, you're going to see more results that way...
That being said, I've decided to cut out processed foods from my diet (at least during the teatox) and I have started going to the gym in the morning before work. I am not a morning person at all, but i never feel like exercising after work, I like having my evenings free to do what I want.
I will be traveling over Labor Day weekend so I think I will do 14 days, then take a few days off while I am traveling and then I will finish out the last 14 days when I return. I'm currently on day 6, so we will see how it goes!
Back in action: Update
You may have noticed my blog has been a little quiet... My last semester of college was a crazy one (no time for blogging, or exercising... or eating healthy for that matter) Then came the job hunt, I was working at a photography studio and freelancing, keeping myself very busy. About 4 months later, I got a call for a job at an advertising agency which i LOVE.
Long story short, now I am settled in to my job (and have realized that I’ve gained some weight :/ I am currently at my highest weight to date. ) I am ready to get back into fitness and blogging!
Went to a cardio class and a zumba class today! I'd be okay with being this much over my goals everyday! And plus side, I feel good! (Not like I'm going to collapse!)
Mushrooms are my new favorite food. I was always afraid to eat them but I finally tried them recently and I am OBSESSED. Plus, they're so good for you! Looks like a win/win to me.. delicious and healthy!
Last Day of Class With Ilovekickboxing.com Today was my last day of class with Ilovekickboxing.com before I go back to school... I'm hoping to go back there when I'm home for Christmas but in the meantime I will be running and finding some other classes to go to closer to school! This was my 5th day of kickboxing this week and it completely kicked my butt. I love it though, it is such a good workout and it's fun! And I have definitely noticed myself getting more fit and getting stronger since I started. I've said this before but I recommend Ilovekickboxing.com to anyone that has a location near them! Check it out on their website!
Had my longest/farthest run yesterday! Whenever I run, I usually just do 2 miles. But I was feeling extra motivated when I was out yesterday and made it to 3 miles in 40 minutes! I am finally building up my endurance and noticing myself getting stronger! Yay progress! (Side note: I use the Nike Running App, it's a free app and it tracks your runs by GPS. I have found that it is really accurate and I love it! If you don't have a good running app, check it out!)
New Favorite Salty Snack:
Blue Diamond Smokehouse Almonds
I have read so many things about the benefits of almonds but they never really sound that appealing to me. I am more of a sucker for salty snacks rather than sweet so I saw these at the store today and thought I would try them. Plus the only difference in the nutritional facts between these and the lightly salted kind was a little bit more sodium, but I can handle that.
I am basically obsessed. They are healthy almonds and they taste like bacon! What more could you ask for.
Summery Metabolism Boosting Drink! I kind of made my own recipe inspired by some of the detox drinks I've been seeing on Pinterest. It boosts your metabolism because lemons are natural energizers and help to speed up your metabolism, mint is good for your digestion and strawberries are full of vitamins! Fill a 32 oz bottle 3/4 full with water and ice. Then add: 4 chopped up strawberries 2 sprigs of fresh mint 1/2 of a sliced lemon Then fill the bottle up the rest of the way with water and shake. Let sit for 5 minutes and then enjoy!
TEA
Tea is my favorite drink... and it helps you lose weight!
I drink white tea every morning, then green tea during the day and an herbal tea at night. I usually have hot tea in the morning and at night, and then pour it over ice during the day. And I only sweeten them with lemon and honey.
Every kind of tea has so many health benefits, but green tea has always been my favorite.
Why is green tea so good for your health? First of all, caffeine stimulates your metabolism. Then, polyphenol intensifies levels of fat oxidation and the rate that your body turns food into calories. Drinking green tea reduces the risk of high blood pressure by reducing bad cholesterol in blood. It also helps regulate glucose levels by preventing insulin spikes which cause fat storage. Green tea also helps blood vessels stay relaxed and better able to withstand changes in blood pressure. Catechins, chemical antioxidants found in tea kill bacteria and viruses in the body. Theanine provides a relaxing effect that reduces the risk of depression and helps with general well being. And because of its antioxidants and anti-inflammatory properties, green tea prevents wrinkles!
I don't drink tea solely because of the health benefits, but it is definitely an added bonus!
My Yummy/Healthy Meal of the Day: Egg White Omelet
3 egg whites 2 pieces of thin sliced turkey 1/4 cup grilled red pepper 1/3 cup Colby jack shredded cheese
I was trying to make a healthy meal with the ingredients I had at home and this is what I ended up with. It ended up being too thick for me to fold… But I just ate it with a fork and it was pretty delicious!
Blueberry Banana Protein Smoothie (30 grams or protein) Didn't have a lot of ingredients today, but I tried with what I had: 1 banana 1 cup blueberry yogurt 1 scoop protein powder (I used Pure Protein, vanilla creme 100% whey protein) a handful of ice I just blended it all together, had to add a little bit more ice because it was thick. But I would say it turned out pretty well!
I will completely give this company the credit to kickstarting my fitness journey. I am always interested in different fitness classes but never actually get it together enough to find them/ go to them. However, one day I was on Groupon and saw a deal, I think it was $50 for 10 kickboxing classes and a pair of boxing gloves. That was just too good for me to pass up, so I bought it.
I have always struggled with really getting myself motivated to start/keep up a good workout routine. However, a little over a month ago is when all of this new fitness inspiration happened for me. June 27th I went to my first kickboxing class. Although I have not been going to kickboxing class every day since then, that is the day that I really got motivated. Something clicked all of a sudden in my brain like, "Okay, I finally want to do this for real this time". Aside from a few rest days, I have walked/ran and worked out (squats, crunches, push ups etc) pretty much every day that I have not been in a class with ilovekickboxing.com since I started.
The day I started kickboxing also became the day that I started running again, the day I really started watching what I was eating again, and the day that I started making lifestyle changes to better my health. And since that day, I have lost 8.2 pounds.
Why did it motivate me so much? I think that part of it was the excitement of actually kickboxing, and how good I felt after the class. Another part of it was that everyone I met there was so friendly and very positive. They were all excited that I was starting the classes, and everyone noticed I was new and made sure to introduce themselves. The last part of it definitely was the instructors. The instructors made the class fun. They were so excited about what we were doing and it made me excited as well. I wasn't thinking about exercising, I was thinking about kickboxing! There is nothing worse than working out and counting every second until you are done. These classes were nothing like that. I have NEVER done a workout and completely lost track of time like I did in this class. It was so much fun and such a good workout.
I am so sad that there is not an ilovekickboxing.com location near my college. I would definitely recommend ilovekickboxing.com to anyone who has one near them. On the website you can search by your zipcode and find the locations.
Thanks Ilovekickboxing.com.
"Picky Eater Problems"
I thought that I would explain to everyone "my normal/old eating habits" so maybe that will help understand some of my posts a bit better and get a better sense of where I'm coming from. I am a picky eater, I have always been a picky eater. This is the simplest way I can sum it up:
My All Time Favorites:
Pasta (Fettucini Alfredo, Mac & Cheese, Spaghetti...)
French Fries (French Fries are my weakness, however I have not had any since I have started losing weight this summer.)
Sugary Drinks (Iced Tea, Lemonade, Juice.)
Bread (Bagels, Toast, English Muffins)
Buffalo Chicken Anything (Pizza, Dip, Sandwich... Always with ranch.)
Mint Chocolate Chip Ice Cream (Any brand, it's always delicious.)
My Newly Added Favorites:
Turkey Bacon
Hummus
Fried Zucchini
Portabello Mushrooms
White Pizza with Tomatoes
What I Will Not Eat:
Cold Vegetables (Weird I know... Only exception: Cucumbers)
Salad (This goes off of the last one, but also includes Pasta Salad, Egg Salad, Chicken Salad. The only salad I will eat is Fruit Salad.)
Most Seafood ( I have a shellfish allergy, and the rest just makes me nervous.)
Mayonnaise
Lunch Meat
Beans
Pickles
Red Meat
Greek Yogurt
Sour Cream
Mushrooms
What I Tried For The First Time This Year (And Really Like):
Hummus
Turkey Bacon
Mushrooms
Steak
Garden Veggie Cream Cheese
Sour Cream
Asparagus
Cauliflower
Zucchini
It is possible to be a picky eater and find healthy options!
EAT N PARK
I always struggle with making healthy choices at restaurants. All of the cheaper choices are the appetizers, and all of the appetizers are fried (and very delicious).
Today I thought I would be adventurous and try something new. I ordered the mushroom and onion garden burger with fruit on the side. I thought this would be a meal that I wouldn't really enjoy, but would feel a little bit better about it because it was healthy... I was wrong. This was actually delicious, and only 400 calories.
You have to understand my normal/old eating habits to completely understand how big of a shock this is to me (never tried mushrooms until this summer, and would always order burgers minus all the veggies... maybe some added bacon and definitely fries on the side). Keep in mind this is also the first time I have EVER ordered onions or mushrooms on something. I am really starting to find out that trying new foods is not as scary as it seems. I never wanted to give up my favorite foods for something that might end up being gross but most of the foods I have tried recently in attempts to eat well (minus a select few) ended up being delicious!
Moral of the story: Try something new! Don't get stuck in bad eating habits because of (what I like to call it...) picky eater problems!
