i think plain old misogyny affects dragon age inquisition’s portrayal of the chantry as much as anything else
why are these ostensibly powerful people all either grandmotherly saintly idealistic victims or petty schemers cowering in shock unable to even act within the story? why can they never be taken seriously as a threat? why are a generation of grand clerics completely wiped out at the beginning as an excuse to not have to deal with them in a game, deemed of no real interest to the writers or player, with not one of them except the divine mentioned by name or having any effect on the world by their absence? why are the surviving clerics completely powerless as soon as the male-dominated military side of their organisation abandons them? why is the only chantry mother that we see oppose us struck across the face by a man only to immediately vanish from the story, defeated? why is the chantry’s role constantly described as a maternal one to “comfort the masses”, sanding off the goals of their religion, their political muscle, their imperialist ambitions, and more? well, a lot of reasons, e.g. that dai is unwilling to seriously interrogate its christianity parallel and somehow this religion game was written exclusively by people deeply uninterested in writing religion, but i think at least one other reason is a complete and utter failure of imagination to portray a matriarchal institution and its female leaders with the complexity, brutality, and power that the chantry should possess. it’s annoying and, worse, it’s boring
i think celene being completely helpless, always assassinated if the player doesn’t intervene on her behalf, her crimes brushed off, her conflict with briala reduced to a lovers’ tiff, is probably also symptomatic of this. dai is always trying to be like look, women in power, aren’t we soooo progressive!! and never ever actually backing it up in the writing
until the end
I want to be every soulsborne woman at the same time. Why are they all so ethereal and divine and mysterious and powerful and feminine and graceful and elegant and dark and I love women
Malenia after she find out that Miquella choose Radahn to be his Lord Consort:
do not forget the patron saint of these weeks that we celebrate ourselves proudly and openly in the streets
her name was Marsha P Johnson, and we have her to thank for so much.
remember, the first Pride was a riot, and she was one of the brave souls who endured it to help carve the path which so many of us walk today. she helped found several activist groups regarding LGBT safety and wellbeing. and she was absolutely radiant, too.
thank you, Marsha. we remember you.

“it’s going to be WW3!!” no bitch it’s going to be vietnam, korea, afghanistan, it’s going to be another war wherein the US commits unspeakable and indefensible acts against a severely weakened people seeking self determination. it’s going to be another war where protesting is criminalized and “freedom of speech” is gutted in the interest of pushing propaganda. it’s going to be another nation of people added to the long list of victims of US imperialism and another demonstration of the strong undercurrent of fascism running through the foundation of america
Theoretically, it would have worked.
Historical and modern examples of the Intifada thobe. Israel banned the Palestinian flag during the first Intifada, so women would sew it into their dresses.
Gators daily free palestine moment???
guys!!!
Yes! 😩
thinking of when vincent van gogh said that “poverty stops the best minds in their tracks” and how art would see a new era if we funded struggling independent artists instead of hiring talentless nepotism babies.
(sitting in court on trial for murder) wow. god forbid women do anything.
Freyja, probably. (via incorrectedda)
