What are your thoughts on the SilencerCo Maxim 9? Given that it's basically a Glock 17 with built-in suppressor that can be adjusted and takes standard Glock mags, I feel like it's priced about where I'd expect for $1,200.00 or so. If I were looking to shoot suppressed 9mm would you recommend it? Even just for the Robocop aesthetics would you recommend it a la the H9 for a weird collection gun?
The closest thing to the Auto 9 we’re ever going to get and a shining example of how cyberpunk nerds will make anything in the world have the weirdest possible angles. Why are the slide serrations cocked to one side? Because style. Why is the suppressor given all these weirdly kooky styling cuts? Style! Why is the MOS mount so far forward? Because the slide is a single piece that only extends up to the breech face so to confirm accuracy, it’s mounted to the shroud around the barrel! Hey, not everything is just for the looks.
The Maxim 9 sucker punched the gun world a few years back by both coming from a company that no one expected to make a gun, SilencerCo, having an actually neat premise, being an integrally suppressed handgun and not costing more than an entire house to buy. Coming in a few basic configurations, you’re looking at a roughly 2.7 lb gun that’s able to render most 9mm loads subsonic with the baffles in the long or short configuration. Sounds pretty good.
Truth be told, this is another gun I can’t exactly swing my almighty smug dick down on because it does everything you’d expect out of the box. It has a number of easy to find parts for modularity like using Glock sights and mags, what is SilencerCo is built rather well and if you’re in the market for a suppressed pistol, this is pretty good right out of the box. Mind you, comparing this to just getting a threaded barrel and suppressor for a Glock 19 or literally anything else, it seems pricy but you pay the price for Gucci shit you gun hipster.
As a Glock fan boy.. Glock triggers are absolute trash. The Maxim9 trigger is much worse than a factory clock. It’s literally a flaming dumpster of oil soaked rags.
It’s a tech demo. That’s it. This gun is a proof of concept at best and I would say you’re much better off getting any other good modern striker fired pistol and just putting a can on it.
I've shot one, and actually liked it quite a bit. Maybe the trigger was worn in because it felt like a standard glock and didn't cause me any issues. The fact that the suppressor acts like a muzzle weight and the front sight is fixed to the barrel and doesn't reciprocate made landing followup shots with it very easy to me. I believe they have a non-reciprocating optic mount too, which would made a very effective gun that won't deafen you indoors.
I'm noy about to go sell all my glocks and buy one, but I think it's a solidly executed concept.
