I haven't seen the show, but those images of Mileven are so heartbreaking. I also saw a scene where he's still hesitating to tell her he loves her, and El replies that she knows. 🥹😭 BECAUSE OF COURSE SHE KNOWS! She was Mike's whole life, for fuck's sake! Screw the creators for season 5 of Stranger Things... I still can't believe how they ended a show that was so good over its four seasons.

Tales from '85 is super fucking cute. I'm only two episodes in, but I'm having a great time with it. It's like a post s2 fanfic fever dream in a lot of ways.

I'm not taking it as canon, despite what the creators say, but to me is a very cute "what if"/fanfic of the show.

Also, all the Mileven moments in just the first two eps are SUPER CUTE and it makes me squee.

The Bylers are starting to get on my nerves with their complaints about the animated show Stranger Things. Because their obsession with Will being the main character is starting to annoy me. No. The main character has always been El. Will was a plot device for the first two seasons. He wasn't really featured in season 3 when he wasn't the main focus anymore. And in season 4, he finally got a real arc. Like. Just because the plot revolves around a character for a while doesn't mean they're the main character. Not if the character is barely present without a real arc. In that case, they're a plot device. Look at the difference with Wednesday. The plot revolves around Tyler in season 1 with Wednesday, and he's a real active character with an arc, just like Wednesday, right from the start. So the plot revolves around them, and they're both main characters. It's not hard to understand.

I find it so funny By/lers make fun of Mike in Mileven scenes for being awkward and use it as "proof" of him not liking her, like how he holds her in the final Void scene and the way they make out at the beginning of s3 when like, newsflash, Mike is awkward as hell even when super in love... do you not know who he is?! (and btw, El fucking loves how adorably awkward he is around her)

i think there’s a lot of interesting, nuanced discussions to had abt whether or not mileven would choose to have kids or choose to be childfree but i cannot stand the popular reddit/twitter take that el “shouldn’t” have kids bc her blood is dangerous or that, if she did have children, she’d become mike’s trad wife

el has been stripped of damn near every choice her entire life. she’s been forced to give up nearly her entire life and certainly her entire childhood because of government treating her like a disposable pawn. why should she be forced to give up her future? why are we so comfortable sacrificing women’s autonomy like this? the decision should ultimately lie with her - not with the fear of government intervention. like that is the basest and honestly most lukewarm take you can have on this and somehow i see people failing to have even that

and don’t get me started on this el would be a trad wife narrative? where is there even a hint of that? mike literally calls her superman and himself lois lane? neither would be wholly content to just stay at home and only mind the children but it certainly wouldn’t be mike forcing el to do so? are some of you okay???

Like you're really gonna look me in my eye and tell me people wouldn't have ripped a female Will to shreds for flirting with her sister's boyfriend? Or that she wouldn't have been called jealous and vindictive for calling El stupid? The only reason Will gets away with his behavior is because he's a gay white boy. No one else would get so much grace, which I know for a fact because look at how this godforsaken fandom treated Kali.

Not one inch of their entire convoluted mess of a plot makes sense, though.

The thing is, I actually don't care how the UD works or what it is or any of its "secrets". Never did. I could have made it to the end of the series and either never inquired or done so idly. So the obsession with proving they knew what they were doing and trying to explain that necessitated making shit up and changing their minds at the eleventh hour and still leaving so many holes—new ones! bigger holes!—is so irritating because it took so much time away from the things that needed to be developed and shown and then still failed to satisfactorily explicate their idea.

The hook for me was never the mystery nor the conspiracy nor the sci-fi shit. It was the humanity that drove these characters to push through those things. It was how distinctively, authentically drawn they were in S1.

I will not remember much about the UD mechanics or the logistics of their multiple villain scenarios or the quagmire of a plot. I will remember Jonathan weeping silent, desolate tears for his brother while his mother walks away. The small moments of support from his family that gave Will the tools he needed to survive and the friends who loved him enough to find him. An abused little girl tentatively exploring a world she has been denied and accepting a new name, and with it an identity and personhood. Nancy reaching across social barriers to show kindness in a moment when it would have been easier to look away.

Small things. Quiet things. Human things. Not the evil, but the love. So they could have just shown me that and sent me on my way. We could have spent more time with the love—what it meant, what it did, where it wasn't enough—and less with the tentacles.

i keep thinking about that decoy millie/el for the graduation scene in the finale and i'm so upset like all that trouble to try faking out the audience instead of just actually giving el a happy ending... the way it didn't even work either bc there wasn't a single "leak" of el at the graduation. like what was the fucking point. i was almost fully healed from the trauma of the finale but that reopened the wound bc it just shows what we could've had but the duffers said "fuck that" for some reason. i just. WHYYYY
