Ötzi the icemans' murderer could still be out there. We just don't know.
How do we even know he was called Ötzi?
Did he have his name written down on something?
Or is that what the people who dug him up thousands of years later decided to name him?
And how TF does he even have a fanbase?
How TF do you even get a fanbase just for being murdered?
Apologies if this is all stuff you already know and you were being rhetorical but he definitely was not called Ötzi!
Ötzi is a 5300-ish year old mummy, found in the Ötztal Alps in Italy (hence his name). While the earliest form of writing was emerging from Sumer at the time, Ötzi likely came from a civilisation with no writing system.
Ötzi has a fanbase because frankly he's absolutely fascinating. For a long time he was the oldest tattooed person ever discovered (in 2018 older Egyptian mummies were discovered), with 61 tattoos, a series of lines and crosses, primarily on his joints. These tattoos were likely an early form of acupuncture since he had worn joints that likely caused him pain.
The amount we've been able to study and understand about Ötzi is incredible, and he has offered us an incredible view of the European Copper Age. He was 45. He was 5"3. He was around 50kgs. We know what his final meal was, how he dressed, where he came from and how he travelled to the Ötztal region (through pollen in his lungs). We know he was involved in copper smelting (high levels of copper and arsenic in his hair). He could still have 19 descendants alive today. We know he was sick three times in the last six months before he died. We know he had whipworms. We know he was lactose intolerant.
We know he was murdered. Not killed by a stranger, or robbed. He was murdered by someone, and it was probably personal, and he did not know it was coming. He bled out, from an arrow to the back, and nobody helped him.
His last meal was elaborate. He was not on the run, or in a hurry to get away. He was not chased up those mountains. Where was he going? Why was he being followed? His body was not looted. He was a wealthy man, for his time. He had good quality clothes, shoes that people have reconstructed and hiked up the mountain in (and found surprisingly comfortable, apparently).
Weapons, too. He was found with a copper axe, a knife, arrows and an unfinished bow, baskets and medicines. These were all valuable possessions. People were not so rich back then that they could easily discard items like this- so why were they left to rot on the mountain with him? Was the fact they'd been touched by Ötzi really so repugnant to whoever was on that mountain?
There are at least 4 other people's blood on his gear. On the knife. On the arrows. The arrow that they shot him with was left in his back but the shaft was removed.
We know so much about Ötzi. We know everything about his finals hours- except for everything about Ötzi. We do not know who he was, we do not know his name, and we do not know why he was killed. His murderers stand in the shadows and will never come out into the light.
Anyway, that's why I find him fascinating!
Robby has only made Jack laugh so hard his drink came out of his nose once. And it was when they were having an argument and Robby, in the heat of it, yelled “you have no leg to stand on!” And then immediately looked horrified beyond belief. Jack didn’t stop laughing for ten minutes and the argument was forgotten.
A friend mentioned how The Pitt S2 is showing us Robby's struggles from the outside, not the inside as in the past. In S1, we followed him into the bathroom and saw his hitching breaths, his attempts not to cry. We saw his literal flashbacks, heard the ringing in his ears. In S2, all of that is absent. We don't follow him in. We don't get private moments with him at all.
It occurred to me that that may be why audiences are being so very harsh on Robby this season. Last season, he got empathy. This season, he gets scorn. (If not worse.) The thing is, we all experience other people's mental health struggles from the outside. We don't see their internal struggles, just their external actions.
And if this is how folks react to other people's declining mental health? Well, that is grim, indeed.
Sometimes I talk a lot and sometimes I don’t talk at all and somehow both are embarrassing
Alright but coming across Klaus Mikaelson in 'Animal Kingdom' chatting up a young smurf and beating his wife was not on my bingo list!
A detail in Animal Kingdom season 2 vs season 1 that absolutely repulsed me : Pope vs Smurf's experience in prison.
I'm watching Animal Kingdom for the first time and I got to season 2 episode 13 (the last of that season), I know people have already watched and finished this show a whole while ago and that I'm pretty late to the party! But I've also noticed that people are still pretty active, just not sure if this detail has been discussed or not !
A few moments after Smurf's got locked up, we see a group of women inmates circling her at the cafeteria, at first she's suspicious but one of them - I assume the leader - quickly reassures her with these simple words : "You smurf ? I'm Trujillo, J sent us."
and just like that, absolute safety in a very hostile environment.
Look at that smug, pleased face.
she knows her baby's taking care of her. (he's got no choice either way.)
Even Deran later, when Craig starts to voice his worries about Smurf being locked up in that place (same episode), goes :
"She's Smurf, she's probably already got the place wired."
as well as
"Running the cell block, controlling all the action, getting the guards to work for her.."
no hesitation.
They know what she's capable of.
Even when Baz holds most of her fortune, as long as J's got her power of Attorney, therefore she's got her power of Attorney still, she's safe!
But what about Pope ?? And why am I so fucking disgusted by all this ???
I should feel amazed no? reluctantly admirative ?
That woman's got the upper hand on every situation !
Well that was only day ONE of her stay and she's already untouchable. Meanwhile, HER SON who's been locked up for THREE YEARS has a very different story and experience to tell.
I'm bringing Andrew/Pope's quote from the show :
"There was this guard, Hilty. He’d wait 'til I was asleep. He’d come to the bars and he’d just... scrape his keys. Clack, clack, clack. He knew I liked it quiet. He knew I needed it quiet.
He’d put me in the hole for nothing. Chained me naked to the floor. No light, no sound, just the music they’d blast through the speakers to keep me from sleeping.
He wouldn't let me out to use the head. I’d be there for days. I ended up shitting my pants... shitting myself right there on the floor while he watched. He’d stand there and eat his lunch, just looking at me like I was a dog. A bad dog. He told me I was a 'special kind of broken."
The situation was so terrible that another inmate took pity and helped to protect him, Vin.
Not his mother with all her power and connections, a pure stranger.
For three years ! Add the no contact from his family for all that duration while he kept quiet about their affiliation to the crime and protected them. like the good, elder son/brother that he is.

Helloo, TCR gentlefolks! did you ever stop to think about the Von Gikkingens (Baron' - and in some versions where she's his twin sister, Louise's) family motto? like in Outlander, for example, we have the Fraser's and their family motto : "je suis prêt" (for English speakers it translates into "I'm ready"). In the french version of The Visistors we have "Que trépasse si je faiblis !" which roughly translates into "May I die/perish if I weaken!" (weaken in the sense of getting scared, cowards away or fail a task :))
Now the Von Gikkigens are German(or Austrian ? but since Baron's artisan is insinuated to be German in the whisper of the heart let's go with that!) but all noble families are tied in one way or another from the Anglo-Saxons, the Scots, the Germans, The Scandinavians(?), The Hispanics, The French..so the language of the motto doesn't really matter and most of them employ latin !
Just what will be the phrase that would shape both Baron and Louise's personalities (they're both so similar yet different in the beautiful stories I've read!) which of them would follow those words to the letter and which one would reject them? We know Louise is painted as the rebel and adventurous sibling but what if it had something to do with money or influence and Baron's the one who said no thanks! What if even if the twins live separate lives (completely different from one another's) they still have similar morals due to that phrase ! As they both answer to it when the situation calls ? What if when Haru is on a mission with Louise (the bureau gets separated), she notices those similarities in behaviour and morals between the siblings ?
Just something that I've been thinking about after devouring so many historical dramas and parodies instead of studying for my finals ! I'd love to hear your thoughts Xx
I didn't google it i duckduckwent it
Paul McGann singing The Great Pretender and Oh! Susanna in Paper Mask (1990)
“Are you a man or a woman?”
One: Hmph!
Two: That you would even have to ask! (Does nothing whatsoever to clear the matter up)
Three: Huh, I suppose I look like a man today. Do you think the Master noticed?
Four: The impertinence!
Five: *long infodump about the gender systems on various planets that never actually gets back to his*
Six: Really! Clearly I am a [loud noise as a train passes feet away regardless of the location you are currently in]
Seven: I’m a Time Lord.
Eight: No, my gender is very complex. It’s a Time Lord thing, you wouldn’t understand (the Time Lords have no clue on Gallifrey what he’s talking about)
War: *incoherent grumbles*
Nine: Man, if you must. Now run!
Ten: I don’t even know myself some days. *stares sadly into the middle distance for an uncomfortably long time*
Eleven: Would you know, no one has asked me that since I’ve regenerated! (Doesn’t answer the question)
Twelve: Wouldn’t you like to know 😠
Thirteen: There does seem to be some amount of confusion about that lately. (Does nothing whatsoever to clear the matter up)
Fourteen: *grins wildly and describes his exact gender in about twenty microlabels*
Fifteen: Babes, I’m the Doctor 😉
Eccleston was the best doctor 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽!!!
He was, it's just a shame we didn't get more of him. I mean - really - it should've been Eccleston, not Tenant, in the 50th anniversary special. His character was more directly relevant to the story and its themes, the themes would've been more keenly felt.
With that said: Paul McGann is the best Doctor that never got to shoot his shot. One mediocre film, a load of audio plays, and then one brief mini-special where they killed him off. Vast potential - especially because he's introduced in such a whimsical, almost childlike fashion with gentler, more serious undertones, who supposedly was the very same doctor that took the decision to wipe out the Daleks and the Time lords.
We've got this arc of a man full of love and joi de vivre, slowly becoming the kind of person that would later commit double genocide. Something that's instantly compelling and fascinating, which practically writes itself.
And we never got to see it.
^ Me inspecting Steven Moffat's skull in search of a sound and functional mind.
You know what, fuck it, BBC hit me up - I will retcon this shit for you and make the transition from 8th to 9th Doctor and epic tragedy of Illiadic proportions. There is a cavernous void of disappointment and distaste in my soul that this was so badly wasted, and what could have been a glorious exploration of the depths of the soul became a camp romp designed to shift merchandise.
I think often about how the Eight Doctor described Gallifrey in the Doctor Who movie (1996). His tone excited as he remembered his home; memories of him and his father, memories of a beautiful sky “dancing with lights” on a “warm Gallifreyan night”
All spoken with the biggest smile on his face, an expression filled with so much love.
And it’s sad to think that it was that very same face that had to watch it all burn. The same face that had to bear being rejected by those in need, leaving him unable to fulfill the promise he had made when he chose his name. The same face that had to kill who he was in order to abandon all that care and love and compassion within him for “the better”.
I wish things would’ve turned out differently for him.
