Polish parliament will be considering passing a law banning celebrating Halloween
if the law will be passed, people who will decide to dress up in costumes, go “trick or treating” etc. on the 31st of October and will be spotted while doing so by the police will be charged with 500 złotys (about 125 euros) fine or even get locked up in jail for up to15 days for disturbing public peace and morality. According to the citizen who has given the beginning of the legislative process, celebrating Halloween is “a danger to the immortal soul“ and “threatens the Catholic faith and Polish traditions”. My country is a circus.
To be perfectly clear this is not truly the case. The whole thing is a citizens initiative, and yes it's going to be considered by the court. Even if the law would be passed, we could still celebrate halloween at 30th or 29th October for example- the whole law would be obligatory only to 31th of October. There's no need for panic.
However, currently there are far more concerning laws which are going to be put in motion, very soon. 'Repolonising' any kind of media for example- which basically means that the goverment is going to own them, and they won't let them step in the way of their propaganda.
Yesterday the process of repolonisation had been confirmed during an interview for national radio station (Jedynka) by Jarosław Kaczyński (PiS). It is going to be put in motion and all of the media are going to be depending on the goverment very soon- not only the national stations (funded by the goverment, like TVP for example), but private ones too. Same for newspapers and radio stations.
