Artemis Leading the Hunt — MTG Style by Ivana Abbate
"Les Jardins de Nuit" (censored version) - Mixed media: colored pencils, pastels, ink, and gold leaf on paper. I created this artwork in 2020 for my book Forgotten Gods.

A moment to heal. I’m sure Shadowheart is absolutely exhausted by my favorite tactical strategy of tossing Karlach into the fray, far from her healing touch. This is why she carries the Amulet of Misty Step.
There’s a lot to fix and finish here, but I’ve already moved onto the next thing I’ll leave unfinished. 🌝
Halsin joined the camp in hopes of breaking the Shadow Curse, likely expecting to continue his research in the field while supporting the group as a resident healer. He fully grasped the severity of his companion’s conditions, but was unfamiliar with the frequent nightly visits by a mysterious guardian. I wonder how frequently he witnessed Tav and the crew shivering in their sleep as the only person unaffected; how often he saw them wake exhausted and confused to exchange theories; what he felt when they clutched their heads as the Absolute’s voice overwhelmed them. I imagine as a healer his impotence regarding the tadpole frustrated him deeply, particularly as he began building relationships and bonds with his new companions around the camp fire. I picture a restless Halsin greeting them with potions for their aching heads in the mornings, treating more severe pains with the strongest magic he could muster, and taking the occasional research note while listening to their description of the mysterious visitor. There's little else he can do to ease their exhaustion from this burden, let alone save their lives. And so I imagine a sort of organic routine begins to form as they approach the Shadow Cursed Lands, where the former Arch Druid finds himself keeping another doomed company alive as best he can. This time, at least, he was not leading it.

This is part of a set I hope to post together someday. For now it’s just a WIP line art + quick drop colors. Learning very quickly I have no patience for coloring. 😵💫
i wanted to draw another still from the beach episode of shadowgast: the anime, so i did
two (2) things: 1) ye that's essek's most salacious swimwear 2) someone please inform the wizards that studying at the beach is about as lame as you can go
“You haven’t seen the last of ol’ Karlach yet, soldier.”
Quick sketch! Colors forthcoming... Maybe!

Realizing the irony in my routine choice to give Shadowheart the Blood of Lathander… Quick sketch with some colors.
This is great art, but also the caption reminded me of a post I was meaning to make.
Everybody jokes about Shadowheart, cleric of darkness, wielding a weapon that's all about light, and it is funny, but it actually makes sense in-universe. The Sharrans have a history of trying to steal the Blood of Lathander, and the last time they got hold of it they lost a lot of people and the Lathanderites took it back. And now here's Shadowheart, just waltzing on it and yoinking it with no resistance whatsoever beyond a few traps and a weapon that's easy to disable if you do the prerequisite mini-quest. And nobody ever tries to take it back from her even if she stays Sharran. It must be immensely satisfying for her to be in possession of such an important artifact, and to wield it in service of her Lady's will. She, a mere acolyte, has succeeded where the great Sammaster failed. If she becomes Mother Superior the Blood is probably placed somewhere in the cloister where she can flaunt it for all to see.
Thanks for the background, @katyusha454! I had no idea! Your post prompted me to doodle the scene when my Druid Tav, Nymari, cheerfully offerered it to her unaware of its signifance. Thanks for the inspiration, this was fun to draw!
i kinda like her
