Reylos, somebody actually gives a fuck.
The incredible Katie, author of the following article, collected an incredible amount of data on the Reylo fandom to provide much needed insights on how fandoms that are predominantly female are depicted in the media and treated online.
This article, “ When Systemic Hatred of Women Online Goes Unnoticed, What Does it Say About Us? “ details the behaviors “antis” and members of the Fandom Menace have had for years, as well as what happened after Boyega’s tweets.
It is the ONLY ARTICLE YOU’LL EVER NEED TO EXPLAIN YOURSELF, OR DEFEND YOURSELF AS A MEMBER OF THIS FANDOM.
USE IT.

Imagine a version of Beauty and the Beast where, immediately after his transformation and the passionate kiss, the Beast dies. Belle is momentarily stunned, but then she joins the rest of her friends as they celebrate the curse being broken. Later, she travels to a provincial town, similar to the one she grew up in and wanted to leave so badly. The story ends with her looking to the horizon, like she did before her adventure.
There: you have the end of The Rise of Skywalker.
i’ll just leave that here
alright i wasn’t gonna do this but as someone who has spent her entire collegiate education studying post production, i can almost guarantee you this scene is out of order
reason #1 being CONTINUITY
if an editor does their job right, the editing is seamless and invisible. in other words, when you’re watching, you shouldn’t be noticing the cuts. if you do, it’s because the cut was jarring and didn’t make sense. for example, if you watch someone open a door, but in the very next shot the door’s closed. THIS is a break in continuity, or in the flow of the scene which takes you out of the story. IF YOU NOTICE THAT WE EXIST WE’VE DONE OUR JOB HORRIBLY WRONG.
(standby for my edited version following this post.. yes i have to reuse shots and yes my continuity is also all over the place but only AFTER he wakes up because obviously i don’t have all the footage for that)
when editing, one of things you have to closely analyze is hand placement and body position when making cuts.
here we see rey grab ben’s hand and hold it
ben looks down at her, then rey sits up (notice his hand)
next rey says “ben” (notice she’s probably still holding his hand)
next shot rey’s hand comes up to ben’s face
IT’S ON HIS FACE
now the hand is OFF of his face
after the kiss, ben’s hand slips from behind rey’s head
next shot it’s back up on her neck (ALSO NOTE REY’S HAND, it’s no longer on his face but was in the shot immediately before this)
alright NOW ben’s hand is clearly back behind her neck and rey’s hand is back up on his face, JUST SO YOU KNOW, we shouldn’t be missing a single beat of this scene, we’re watching every second of this interaction as it happens (ALSO do not even get me started on the framing of these shots, seriously big yikes)
next shot rey’s hand is gone again
ben’s hand starts to slip as he falls (note rey’s hand has yet to move up to his face)
he falls, presumably dies (note you never see a wide shot of his clothes lying on the ground in front of rey, WHY? bc they didn’t film one)
personally i’m not on the “they reversed it” train, i honestly feel like there’s just different shot of him waking up and then sitting back up (but in my edit I DO reverse it bc i don’t have all the shots unfortunately)
ALSO rey’s hand is holding his in the same exact way she was holding it when she woke up (note her right hand is up by his neck)
next shot rey’s hand is down by his side (way more believable had their been a cut away.. maybe to a different scene hmmm)
due to the image limit, i can’t go further in detail but
camera pans up to his face (i believe this is probably where he woke up)
next they cut back up to rey seemingly upset or about to be very upset and then surprised? relieved? feeling something in the force?
next shot ben disappears and that’s that, like he never existed, then the scene cuts away to leia and a smiling maz?
END SCENE (yeah right)
(I’ll be uploading my version very shortly)
Watching this scene in the theater for the first time it felt choppy, weird, and unsatisfying like something was missing. It felt like the emotions in the scene were out of order or incomplete. I didn’t know how to explain it. But it this was an editing issue that completely make sense. I’m okay with artists wanting to change parts of the story in editing, but this ending felt wrong as a viewer.
They ALMOST had it RIGHT?! WTF happened?!?!?!

memeception
WE’VE HIT TERMINAL MEME
@caesarianconfection
I’ve said “I hate this” so many times on this website, and never actually meant it, because “I hate this” is just shorthand for ‘this is an example of a meme given a twist I wasn’t expecting with intent to surprise’. Which is, in of itself, a meme on this site. God damn it.
But this… This is something else.
The rapidity of a meme’s introduction to its zenith to its decline is so rapid that in ten years, you’ll need a damn twenty-page manual to explain this. It’ll be as unfunny and hard to explain as jokes in Shakespeare plays, except even more inexplicable because fuck, at least Shakespeare’s jokes are usually about anal or fucking your mother, good wholesome sex jokes we can all get behind.
For the love of fuck, how do you explain loss.jpg? How do you explain gun?
….I THOUGHT THIS WAS A YMCA REFERENCE
it is a YMCA reference - that’s one of the 6 memes being represented here
ok let me see if i can break this down easily. YMCA is the easiest place to start - the song itself has become a meme over time with people changing the lyrics to reference other pop cultural events. so YMCA is meme one (1)
this first lyric replacement (”take the breadsticks and run”) is a reference to the tumblr meme ‘stuffing breadsticks into my purse’. i think everyone remembers that one so i wont bother to explain it. that’s meme two (2)
“man door hand hook car door” is a meme of its own, a creepypasta from i dont remember when. it was a terrible stupid retelling of the generic ‘stuck in a car while hook handed man tries to kill us’ story so the stupid title caught on for memorability. that in and of itself is meme three (3)
‘gun’ is… yeah i dont know how to explain gun. long story short you add gun to the end of a phrase instead of what you expect the last word to be. its shock funny. its everywhere but its popular to add to “man door hand hook car door” for.. some reason? gun is meme four (4)
and the thing is, this four meme combo is something thats gone around before. meme combos are, itself, a meme. which means taking this meme combo and mixing in another meme actually becomes meme five (5)
which leaves us at loss.jpg. loss.jpg was a terrible bad comic supposed to be about some tragic event, but it was presented so poorly literally no one takes it seriously, and for some reason recreating the four-panel setup has become popular. so thats meme six (6)
(but i need to add that this is the greatest version of loss.jpg i think i’ve ever seen. the initial ‘young man’ lines up with the guy bursting through the door, and the shock meme ‘gun’ matches the shock scene of the woman in the hospital and idk if OP even thought about that but it makes this just so much better)
I wasn’t going to reblog this, but @pagesofkenna‘s comprehensive meme-by-meme annotation is a thing of beauty and should be shared.
average tumblr post contains one meme, this post, which contains six, is an outlier and should not be counted
it might also just be a coincidence due to loss.jpg’s format but the whole white minimalist four-panel setup is also suspiciously reminiscent of those early 2000’s rage comics
I was getting a political compass vibe too
tag urself im man door hand hook car gun
This works better than I thought it would.
This was in my senior project
I’m not sorry.

I hope you know this is the most cursed addition to my post, and I love it
THIRTEEN!?
SOMEONE EDIT THIS FROM THE ORIGINAL PHOTO SAYING “this one does not spark joy” TO THIS VERSION SAYING “this one sparks joy”
well i added my contribution : )
why—
IM SCREAMING
This is the most elaborate meme I have ever seen and damn am I concerned by how it makes sense.
“You’re in your 30s, but you still understand all this meme stuff?” “Oh yeah, sure.” “Can you explain it to me?” “I absolutely fucking cannot.”
One does not simply explain this
Edit:
Another freaking layer!!!
16 motherfucking layers
In the future someone’s going to ask me to explain this and I’m going to be at a loss.jpg for words
So me
Bucharest is protesting. Romania is protesting what happened in Colectiv. (photo source)
15.000 people out on the streets. #suntemcolectiv
If this were happening in the U.S., this photo would have had hundreds of notes by now.
I think part of it has to do with the fact the U.S. isn’t even covering this from what I’ve seen. I have no idea what this is. Can you tell me? I really want to know now. This is huge, even if I don’t know what they’re protesting.
On the night of October 30, there was a fire in a club in Bucharest, called Colectiv. The fire started because the club did not comply with the safety regulations demanded by law, and the antiphonal foam covering the club was not fire repellent, so it caught fire when the band holding a concert there started some small fireworks. There was a host of other things, like not enough emergency exists, lack of fire extinguishers etc., basically a lot of irregularities.
As of this moment, 31 people have died and another approximately 150 are in the hospital, most of them in serious to critical condition. You can find more information here: 1, 2, 3, 4
The protesters are demanding justice for the people fallen in this fire, and demand the resignation of the mayor of sector 4 in Bucharest, Cristian Popescu Piedone, of the Romanian prime minister, Victor Ponta, as well as the vice prime minister, Gabriel Oprea, seeing that up until now, no responsibility was assumed by any authorities, regarding this incident. We’re protesting corruption, indifference, neglect, a political class that simply does not care. And hopefully we’ll be able to change something.
Update: death toll is now 32. Expected to keep rising, because a lot of victims have burns on their airways. #colectiv32 You can read more here
Bucharest, Novermber 3rd 2015 source (Luiza Boldeanu)
Prime Minister Victor Ponta has just announced his resignation.
WE’RE CHANGING SOMETHING.
UPDATE 2: The Mayor of sector 4 in Bucharest, Cristian Popescu Piedone, has now resigned.
HAI ROMANIA.
The current government is no longer in office, following the resignation of Victor Ponta and talks have started for the formation of a new government. This is a victory. But the people will still go out in the streets, will keep pushing for the change that this country needs.
Huge thank you to everyone who has reblogged this to spread the word!
Protests are continuing tonight as well. Around 5000 people in Timisoara, around 4000 people in Sibiu, around 10000 in Bucharest at the moment.
Romania keeps fighting.
35.000 people in Bucharest last night! Around 7000 in Timisoara, 4000 in Sibiu.
HAI ROMANIA.

UPDATE:
President Klaus Johannis has declared that he will meet with representatives of the civil society, to take into account our demands before appointing a new prime minister.
“I have seen you, I have heard you, I will take your demands into account” - Klaus Johannis
Negotiations are taking place today, between the president, political parties and the civil society. Change is coming. Keep fighting, Romania!
It’s been one week since the tragedy in Colectiv. Unfortunately, the number of deaths is now up to 38. Rest in peace, brothers and sisters :(
41 death as of this moment. I don’t even have the words anymore.
Update 12.11.2015: 53 people dead. My heart is broken.
It’s been one year. 64 people have lost their lives in the fire at the Colectiv club and many others injured, who are still struggling to get better. Not much has changed here, on the contrary, things seem to be going worse. We have parliamentary elections on the 11th of December, which may be a small light, but I don’t have much hope.
We won’t forget you, though. And we’ll keep fighting so that not everything will have bee The day we give in is the day we die.
Leaders of Trump's own party called his comments "vile degradations" and inexcusable. And multiple Republicans are calling on him to drop out of the race.
Donald Trump’s presidential campaign faced perhaps its biggest crisis so far on Friday after the Washington Post published a video in which he talked about trying to have sex with a married woman.
“I did try and fuck her. She was married,” Trump said in the video, adding later that when you’re a star, you can “do anything” to women, including “grab them by the pussy.”
The conversation was recorded in 2005 while Trump was preparing to film a cameo on a soap opera.
The video earned Trump some of the harshest criticism yet, with numerous high-profile political leaders, including many from his own party, calling the comments unforgivable.
House Speaker Paul Ryan said he was “sickened” by Trump’s comments, and disinvited Trump to campaign in Wisconsin this weekend.
In a statement Friday evening, Ryan said he was “sickened by what I heard today.”
“Women are to be championed and revered, not objectified,” he said. “I hope Mr. Trump treats this situation with the seriousness it deserves and works to demonstrate to the country that he has greater respect for women than this clip suggests.”
Ryan and Trump were scheduled to campaign together for the first time on Saturday in Wisconsin, but Ryan said in the statement that Trump will no longer be attending the event.
Former Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney called the comments “vile degradations.”
Romney has been one of Trump’s highest-profile critics this election season, but his response to Trump’s hot mic conversation ranks as some of his harshest criticism yet.
Arizona Sen. John McCain, who was the Republican presidential nominee in 2008, said there were “no excuses” for Trump’s comments.
In a statement, McCain said “there are no excuses for Donald Trump’s offensive and demeaning comments.”
“No woman should ever be victimized by this kind of inappropriate behavior. He alone bears the burden of his conduct and alone should suffer the consequences.”
Gov. Gary Herbert of Utah announced Friday night that in light of the comments he would no longer vote for Trump.
Herbert, who leads one of the most deeply red states in the US, had previously said he would vote for Trump. However, Friday he called Trump’s comments “offensive and despicable.”
Herbert’s reversal and criticism — along with similar remarks from other leaders with Utah ties like Mitt Romney and Jon Huntsman, Jr. — likely exacerbate what Trump himself hasdescribed as a “tremendous problem” in the Beehive State.
Jason Chaffetz, a congressman from Utah, also revoked his support for Trump Friday night, saying “I’m out. I’m pulling my endorsement.”
In an interview with the Salt Lake Tribune, Chaffetz — a prominent Republican in the House — continued, saying “I can not support in any way, shape or form the comments or approach Donald Trump has taken.”
“This is so over the top, it is not even acceptable in locker rooms,” Chaffetz said. “It shouldn’t be acceptable anywhere. We are talking about the president of the United States. I want someone of high moral values.”
Chaffetz later said on CNN that he has a 15-year-old daughter and he cannot “look her in the eye and tell her I endorsed Donald Trump for president when he acts like this.” He added on that the comments were “not just locker room talk. This is offensive and it was absolutely and totally wrong.”
“I think we should all stand up and say we’re not going to tolerate this,” he continued.
Chaffetz and Herbert — both Mormons from a deeply red state — were the first, high level Republicans to publicly pull support from their own party’s candidate.
Sen. Marco Rubio, Trump’s former rival in the Republican primaries, called the comments “vulgar, egregious, and impossible to justify.”
Sen. Ted Cruz, who also challenged Trump for their party’s nomination before endorsing him last month, called Trump’s comments “disturbing and inappropriate,” adding “there is simply no excuse for them.”
Jeb Bush, former governor of Florida and another 2016 Republican presidential contender, tweeted that “no apology can excuse away Donald Trump’s reprehensible comments degrading women.”
Reince Priebus, the chairman of the Republican Party, said in a statement that “no woman should ever be described in these terms or talked about in this manner. Ever.”
Mitch McConnell, the Senate majority leader, called the Trump’s comments “repugnant” in a statement to BuzzFeed News.
“These comments are repugnant, and unacceptable in any circumstance,” McConnell said in the statement. “As the father of three daughters, I strongly believe that Trump needs to apologize directly to women and girls everywhere, and take full responsibility for the utter lack of respect for women shown in his comments on that tape.”
Illinois Sen. Mark Kirk called on Trump to drop out of the race.
Jon Huntsman, Jr., the former governor of Utah and a presidential contender in 2012, also called on Trump to drop out.
Huntsman told the Salt Lake Tribune that Trump should let his running mate, Mike Pence, become the Republican presidential nominee.
“In a campaign cycle that has been nothing but a race to the bottom — at such a critical moment for our nation — and with so many who have tried to be respectful of a record primary vote, the time has come for Governor Pence to lead the ticket,” Huntsman told the Tribune.
Just last week, Huntsman had said he planned to vote for Trump despite disagreeing with him on a “range of issues.”
Arizona Sen. Jeff Flake said “America deserves far better” than Trump.
Sen. Kelly Ayotte said Trump’s “comments are totally inappropriate and offensive.”
Ayotte had previously called Trump a role model before walking that comment back this week.
Sen. Orrin Hatch called the comments “offensive and disgusting” and said “there is no excuse for such degrading behavior.”
Colorado Rep. Mike Coffman called on Trump to step aside Friday night “for the good of the country.”
In a statement distributed to multiple media outlets, Coffman said that “for the good of the country and to give the Republicans a chance of defeating Hillary Clinton, Mr. Trump should step aside.”
“His defeat at this point seems almost certain and four years of Hillary Clinton is not what is best for this country,” the statement continued. “Mr. Trump should put the country first and do the right thing.”
Coffman has a history of resisting Trump, for example saying in an August ad that “I don’t care for him much.”

and people forget that harry was a lonely child who lived in an abusive and neglectful household and somehow he managed to be cordial if not kind to people who looked up to him and needed him
he had less than snape coming into hogwarts he didn’t know about hogwarts, he didn’t know there were people like him, he didn’t even have A friend but he was still a basically good person
“can you imagine how much pain snape must have been in when he saw harry” so?
harry is a traumatised child who has been told all his life that he was worthless, that he was trash like his parents, that his parents must have done something to deserve their death, that the abuse rained daily upon him was kindness because he should not expect to be taken care of
he was an eleven year old child i don’t care how much he reminds you of someone you hated you don’t hurt eleven year old children as an adult, as a teacher, especially not ones who have had terrible childhoods to begin with.

Reality Condition. I like it. I take it.
Omnipotence Embodiment
"The user becomes their own omnipotence, the supreme being and the source of everything. The user of this ability is the true master and wielder of any and every other power that is deemed omnipotent. Being Omnipotence incarnate, the user is fully devoid of any potential weakness : the power cannot be cut off or stolen, nor can its use be disturbed, backfired or turned against the user."
Hmmm
HERE’S THE THING THOUGH
I used to work for a call center and I was doing a political survey and I called this number that was randomly generated for me and the way our system worked was voice-activated so when the other person said hello you’d get connected to them, so I just launch right into my “Harvard University and NPR blah blah blah” thing and then there’s this long pause and I think the person’s hung up even though I didn’t hear a click
And then I hear “you shouldn’t be able to call this number.”
So I apologize and go into the preset spiel about because we aren’t selling anything, etc. etc. and the answer I get is
“No, I know that. What I mean is that it should be impossible for you to call this number, and I need to know how you got it.”
I explain that it’s randomly generated and I’m very sorry for bothering him, and go to hang up. And before I can click terminate, I hear:
“Ma’am, this is a matter of national security.”
I accidentally called the director of the FBI.
My job got investigated because a computer randomly spit out a number to the Pentagon.
This is my new favourite story.
When I was in college I got a job working for a company that manages major air-travel data. It was a temp gig working their out of date system while they moved over to a new one, since my knowing MS Dos apparently made me qualified.
There was no MS Dos involved. Instead, there was a proprietary type-based OS and an actually-uses-transistors refrigerator-sized computer with switches I had to trip at certain times during the night as I watched the data flow from six pm to six AM on Fridays and weekends. If things got stuck, I reset the server.
The company handled everything from low-end data (hotel and car reservations) to flight plans and tower information. I was weighed every time I came in to make sure it was me. Areas of the building had retina scanners on doors.
During training. they took us through all the procedures. Including the procedures for the red phone. There was, literally, a red phone on the shelf above my desk. “This is a holdover from the cold war.” They said. “It isn’t going to come up, but here’s the deal. In case of nuclear war or other nation-wide disaster, the phone will ring. Pick up the phone, state your name and station, and await instructions. Do whatever you are told.”
So my third night there, it’s around 2am and there’s a ringing sound.
I look up, slowly. The Red phone is ringing.
So I reach out, I pick up the phone. I give my name and station number. And I hear every station head in the building do the exact same. One after another, voices giving names and numbers. Then silence for the space of two breaths. Silence broken by…
“Uh… Is Shantavia there?”
It turns out that every toll free, 1-900 or priority number has a corresponding local number that it routs to at its actual destination. Some poor teenage girl was trying to dial a friend of hers, mixed up the numbers, and got the atomic attack alert line for a major air-travel corporation’s command center in the mid-west United States.
There’s another pause, and the guys over in the main data room are cracking up. The overnight site head is saying “I think you have the wrong number, ma’am.” and I’m standing there having faced the specter of nuclear annihilation before I was old enough to legally drink.
The red phone never rang again while I was there, so the people doing my training were only slightly wrong in their estimation of how often the doomsday phone would ring.
Every time I try to find this story, I end up having to search google with a variety of terms that I’m sure have gotten me flagged by some watchlist, so I’m reblogging it again where I swear I’ve reblogged it before.
