tumblr’s melting so why not post pg-rated doujinshi in full on main “Will You Still Need Me”, complete. I’ll do this as a copy-bon at some point. High res PDF available later.
a random list of things you might not remember if you weren’t there while Yuuri on ice was just coming out because I was in a mood:
-when the trailer/preview dropped and everyone was like “uuuh looks gay” and then the actual first episode came out and we were like. Yep. Called it
-when someone finally translated Stammi Vicino and everyone got really excited because it was explicitly mlm
-for about the first three weeks everyone was like “there is no way this show can get any gayer” and then it regularly did so we all just gave up
-when people caught on the fact that the opening changed details with every new episode and got really excited, and that one person who made side by side comparisons of all openings every week
-that very short period of time when we genuinely couldn’t tell if Yurio was meant to be an antagonist or not
-I’m pretty sure Evgenia Medvedeva was there from the start and there was just this. Surreal feeling that along with all of us trash goblins one of the rising stars of the figure skating world was also very emotional over these anime boys
-on that note, those actual figure skating fans who were delivering a ton of meta over what actual skaters the characters were based on
-when everyone lost it after ep3 came out and we were all like! did Victor just tell Yuuri he loves him through food metaphors??
-just. “I’m a pork cutlet bowl fatale that enthralls men”. that was good shit
-the “Victor is going to leave Yuuri and break his heart!” discourse that came with that episode
-and then we all kinda calmed down with episode four and I remember everyone crying because,,,, they took one whole episode just for character development,,,,, we stan one (1) good anime
-the smol japanese skater that got really excited about meeting Yuuri and we were all like “mood”
-also when Christophe was introduced and everyone was just like, WHAT THE FUCK
-when ep6 came out with the preview for ep7 and everyone was like. THEY DIDN’T SHOW ANYTHING TOO GAY IN THE PREVIEW WHAT DOES THAT MEAN??? SHOULD WE WORRY???? (no literally I just found some screenshots of a text I sent to a friend of mine that says “the preview doesn’t look gay enough and I don’t trust that”)
-when ep. 7 dropped and everyone and their mother lost their shit and YOI trended for a whole week on tumblr and people were joining the fandom in HORDES which to this day is probably still the most surreal fandom experience I’ve ever had
-idk if this was a universal thing but the italian subfandom had all those michele crispino memes about wine
-also when Sara Crispino got introduced and the subtitles said Sala and everyone was crying because it was just really bad
-everyone shouting to know Victor’s backstory
-that whole week of being 100% convinced Makkachin would die, fun times
-when episode? 10 I think? came out and it was revealed that Yuuri had seduced Victor at the afterparty the previous year and everyone was LOSING IT
- that whole episode just killed everyone tbh
-also Otabek showed up and people were thirsting reaaal hard
-the Otayuri discourse which I’m assuming continues to this day
-HAMSTER META
-“I will give you something gold and shiny for your birthday” and everyone being like. Are they tricking us into thinking it’s a medal when it’s, in fact, a wedding ring, or are they tricking us into thinking it’s a wedding ring when it is, in fact, a medal?
-everyone crying after episode 11 and all the meta on what was gonna happen. I think the general opinion was that Yuuri would win gold and then he and Victor would retire together lmao
-also when it got strongly implied that Christophe had a boyfriend and people got really emotional, that was cute
-I just remember everyone dying over the final episode, with the freaking Stammi Vicino duet, tbh
-overall it was just a freaking wild experience and two years later I’m still so glad I was there for that
Not to be dramatic but being in the yoi fandom from the very beginning was literally the best experience of my life and nothing will come close my complete enjoyment of that show
You forgot to mention when the last episode aired and the fandom managed to crash both Crunchyroll and Tumblr
Seduce your boif with that pocky hella yeah

I’m at the YOI binge at my local theatre and I’m fucking LIVING
I'm curious to hear your thoughts on something I've been mulling over: Victor is, for the most part, friendly or ambivalent towards the other competitors in the GPF with one notable exception - J.J. He is uncharacteristically icy towards him, and other than J.J. being a bit obnoxious, I'm wondering what your thoughts are on why else that may be.
At the Rostelecom Cup Short Program, we do indeed see Victor being rather icy with JJ.
Just look at Victor’s face in that screencap. It’s very rare to see him react like that to anyone.
But let’s put this into perspective of what just happened at Yuuri’s last competition in China.
Victor remembers Yuuri’s struggles at the Cup of China. He forced Yuuri not to listen to the cheering for the other competitors because of how much it got to him.
Now think about what JJ is saying to Yuuri at the Rostelecom Cup. “Hey, take those earplugs out. Did you HEAR that?? Your fellow competitor just landed a quad loop.”
Now, I don’t think JJ is doing this maliciously, but Victor isn’t going to care.
He’s going to care about how Yuuri will react to JJ drawing his attention to the success of other competitors.
JJ doesn’t catch on. He keeps going by drawing more and more attention to a jump that Yuuri can’t even do himself. (He can do a quad toe loop but not a quad loop.)
Victor shuts JJ down here. He downplays his own ability to do a jump that Yuuri can’t and discourages further conversation on the subject.
Victor’s reaction is basically: “I swear to god, if you send my boyfriend into a panic attack right now, you are going to regret the day you were born.”
WHAT IS THAT DIFFICULT TO UNDERSTAND ABOUT VICTOR’S HAND BEING CONSTANTLY ATTACHED TO YUURI?!?!?
SO MANY WONDER ABOUT THIS, JUST USE YOUR BRAIN FOR ONCE!! ISN’T IT OBVIOUS:
SO HERE’S THE LOGIC BEHIND IT: YUURI STOLE VICTOR’S HEART. HE HAS NOW 2 HEARTS BEATING IN HIS CHEST AND VICTOR NEEDS TO BE CONNECTED(see blood vessels at his hand) IN ORDER TO BE KEPT ALIVE!
“Victor Nikiforov’s exhibition piece this year is an original composition entitled, Look, Babe, I Didn’t Mean To Leave The Dishes In The Sink, It Won’t Happen Again, Promise. He choreographed it himself.”
“Yuuri Katsuki’s exhibition piece this year is a direct response to Viktor Nikiforov’s piece, -Look, Babe, I Didn’t Mean To Leave The Dishes In The Sink, It Won’t Happen Again, Promise.-, it is entitled, - You Say That Every Time, Nikiforov, Every Time, And Yet It Still Happens.- He as well choreographed it himself. It is a very passionate piece.”
“Viktor’s exhibition piece this year is a continuation of his piece last year titled, I’m-Doing-My-Best. He choreographed it himself and it looks like Katsuki is crying.”
“Rumor has it that Katsuki’s response piece will be titled, I’m-In-Love-With-An-Idiot.”
“Ah, and here’s Yuri Plisetsky with his routine to You-Live-With-Each-Other-You-Don’t-Need-To-Communicate-By-Exhibition-Pieces.”
“A little hypocritical on Plisetsky’s part but I’ll be damned if this isn’t a beautifully angry choreography.”
about Yuuri's accent, does he still have it? like, did he completely turn into a city boy?? if yes, can you give examples when he slipped up?
Hello! I reckon you are referring to his Hasetsu/Kyushu accent? It’s a bit hard to say, because in the anime he speaks standard Japanese by default, and he is only shown speaking (slightly) in a dialect when he’s drunk and in a few other instances. As he seems to have always trained at Ice Castle Hasetsu, I don’t think he ever lived in a bigger city like Tokyo (I mean within Japan), and in Detroit he spoke English so that might not have affected his Japanese too much.
To make a comparison, the only characters consistently speaking Kyushu dialect are Yuuri’s parents, random inhabitants of Hasetsu and Minami-kun. Also, Yuuko sometimes does too though it’s not as heavy. Yuuri’s sister Mari always speaks standard Japanese, but considering her looks/personality I think that fits her. Same for Minako. It’s possible that, since whenever Yuuri participates in tournaments he would get interviewed by Japanese media, he is used to speaking standard Japanese because it sounds less “provincial”. When he’s dead drunk he often speaks in a dialect and refers to himself as “oi” (local dialect for “I”) so I guess deep down he’s still a “Kyushu boy”…
Other instances are when he’s expressing emotions or replies instinctively, though it’s not consistent and it doesn’t happen that often. For example, when he says “kakkoyoka~” (kakkoii) regarding Victor, when he says “hazukashika~” (hazukashii = embarrassing) inside his mind after pulling Victor’s necktie before the Cup of Russia, and when he says “yamete sa~” (”stop”).
By the way, the woman who voices Yuuri’s mother is from Fukuoka so maybe she’s the one with the most realistic accent among them.. (I think they get some kind of accent coaching for the lines in a dialect, but when they speak standard Japanese they also use standard accent.) Also, the dialect they use is not very heavy, otherwise viewers from other parts of Japan would not be able to understand what they say.
Concept
Viktor cut his hair in a 2007-Britney-esque meltdown because he was sick of people equating him with his hair

this one has the ending!

Headcanon : Victor gradually picks up Japanese, but instead of the standard accent he picks up……the Hasetsu variant of Hakata-ben, which puzzles about half the interviewers he meets. Victor himself is very, very, very proud of the fact that he’s learned Yuuri’s personal language! He doesn’t want to learn just Japanese, he wants Yuuri’s Japanese, the one he only uses in his personal moments, and he’s on his way of getting that! This is the best thing he’s ever done in the history of ever!
Yuuri, meanwhile, doesn’t know if he’s going to die of cute at Victor’s baby accent, of sexy at the way he trails his -a’s, or of warm and fuzzies at how Victor learns his native accent just for him. He decides to settle on being utterly stoic about this unless Victor brings it up, in which case he stammers and changes the subject. (Yuuri doesn’t use his native accent unless it’s not a conscious action, e.g. while drunk.)
So I heard you like Spotify playlists.
What to Watch While You’re Waiting for Yuri!!! on Ice to Come Back
The wait is long, but don’t you worry! I will give you some good anime to watch in the meantime lol give me your suggestions too!
1. Haikyuu!!
You’re literally living in a hole if you haven’t watched Haikyuu yet, but now you have time, don’t you? It is an amazing show - the OTPs, the characters, the storylines, the feels, you’ll love it. Plus, 3 seasons and an ongoing manga - what fun!
2. Bungou Stray Dogs
You have to watch this, guys. The story is unique, the characters are hot, there is a storyline that’ll have you hooked and Dazai is awesome. Got some strong OTPs in here too.
3. Joker Game
This is one of the newest anime in this list, and it is spectacular and mind-boggling. The characters and the stories in different episodes will have you full of feels and amazement throughout. Worth the watch.
4. 91 Days
Mafia. Hot men. Broship at its finest. What else do we need? It has feels, excitement, anticipation, and everything you need in a short anime. Good watch.
5. Kuzu no Honkai
If you’re looking for something along the lines of mature, watch this. The story and the characters are angsty and the manga, in my opinion, is even better at it. It’s a good watch. Some people don’t like it, but I think it’s worth a try.
6. ACCA: 13-ku Kansatsu-Ka
I’m not done with this anime yet, but I am very intrigued up to the point that I have watched. The art is very different, Jean Otus is hot, and the concept seems worth watching too.
