Guess who finally started watching Almost Famous last night? Meeee! Anyway, we only got partway through it before it got too late (stupid jobs and school, etc. 🙄), but I'm really enjoying it so far. And what's hitting me currently (especially going into this knowing that Jess loved it) is how much the main character is reminding me of Rory, actually. This precocious, bright-eyed, would-be journalist with a clingy mother and a burning desire to see the world...

This is something I keep thinking about, actually, and it's SO interesting to watch this movie through a "Jess Lens," and... Yeah. William is a Rory, in a lot of the ways he interacts with the world and in how people respond to him, and I can especially see Jess thinking that because of the way HE responded to her. Like the way William's innocence and kindness make the other characters both uncomfortable AND make them want him to like them/think well of them... And William being upset by how little they value themselves and others makes them WANT to rethink things, in the same way that Rory being upset with Jess for the way he was making trouble for Luke made HIM want to fix things.

So, basically, I can totally see Jess watching this movie and thinking, "Yeah, THIS is how Rory's going to be a great journalist: because everyone will immediately trust her and like her and then they'll just tell her everything she wants to know." (<- TOTALLY not a biased opinion coming from a smitten boy or anything! 😆 But honestly, Rory DOES tend to have that effect on people, and it's not just Jess, either!)

Back to posting about Jess Mariano and Almost Famous again, and how obsessed he was with that movie, but there's this line of dialogue in the film:

"The only true currency in this bankrupt world is what you share with someone else when you're uncool."

And all I could think of was Jess saying, "I could [sic] care less about being cool," in that car with Rory in Teach Me Tonight and that whole conversation, and how real it was- how real THEY were able to be with each other in that moment. And just... How invaluable that is: that they feel free to be "uncool" with each other. Ironically, I feel like they lost that a bit for a while in the middle there, during the time when they were actually dating, but it's something that's remained a hallmark of their relationship into adulthood, and it's so SO special. 🥺

i like how dean represents rory’s humble small town stars hollow world and logan represents rory’s wealthy ivy league world and rory being torn between these two worlds is basically the theme of the show, so you’d think that the narrative would be very dean vs logan. yet both of them are intimidated not by each other but by this little guy who comes out of nowhere during both relationships, displays an undeniable connection with rory and dips. i love it.

love that in catching fire katniss acknowledges that her first instinct is to run away and leave everyone behind during the fog, but she willingly and explicitly buries that thought and is consistent with her need to have peeta as the only survivor

no matter what her human instincts tell her, she's always going to put peeta above everything

If Peeta and Katniss had grown up as friends in the normal world, every time she would come over, one of his brothers would turn towards the stairs and shout "PEETA! Your girlfriend is here!"

and Peeta would get all red and be like "Stop calling her that!" or "She's not my girlfriend"

and this would go on for years until at some point Katniss would be his girlfriend and later his fiancé, and someday his wife, and his brother, finally, once it's his turn to toast at his wedding would get up and be like "damn what a weird thing to be at the wedding of Peeta's not-girlfriend."
