Walking around the corridors of the Normandy, Ashley listened to the low hums from the crew stations nearby. It was strange to not see the majority of the crew running around. The silence seemed eery in a sense, as if it were only her aboard. Clutching the old leather bound book, Ashley found herself in the starboard lounge. Sitting next to the window, Ashley took a moment to gaze at the vast galaxy. Cracking open the old book carefully, she buried herself in the Tennyson poems that laid before her.

Illusive dreams and startling nightmares had the Commander making quiet rounds on board the Normandy. If she wasn’t sure of her crew’s safety, she would have a sight to see. 

It was when her bare feet padded into the starboard lounge, her eyes immediately caught the small view windows of the stars beyond. Then, a light smile crossed her features when she saw Ashley not far from where she stood. 

“Ashley… Couldn’t sleep?” The question was soft and unintended to interfere with the fellow woman’s reading. Curling her feet underneath her the Commander sat just to the side of Ashley.

She looked up at the sound of Shepard's voice, relaxing at the sight of her friend. She smiled tiredly back, closing the book. "Yeah, something feels off. I needed to clear my head, try and relax. Same thing going on with you, Skipper?"

Ashley felt her body relax as Shepard sat next to her. It had been some time since she and the Commander sat down and relaxed. Hell, Ashley knew Shepard needed some time to herself. Ashley couldn't begin to fathom the amount of pressure that was on Skipper's shoulders, let alone the pressure of the galaxy.
