August Adipose is ON!
August Adipose is a month long drawing challenge started by kivanbay on Twitter which challenges artists to draw bodies not often represented in mainstream media!
So... why draw a fat model?
#1: Not everyone is skinny or toned. In fact, most people aren't. Drawing a fat model gives you real life practice for drawing realistic body types and shapes and helps you learn where fat can land on a human being so you're better equipped to draw convincing people!
#2: Representation matters! Since bodies vary in shape and size, seeing yourself reflected in the media you consume is important to developing a healthy body image. Fat doesn't mean unhealthy, and any little bit we can do to normalize different body types will help us unlearn years of indoctrination about skinny = healthy. You can help by including fat characters into your roster!
#3: Fat is fun! One thing I hear from people a lot is that they loved doing figurative drawings and gesture drawings of fat people the most. Let's face it - fat is really fun to draw. It gives you the opportunity to add new shapes to your artwork and can help you develop your overall understanding of light and dark.
Hope this pose helps you - happy drawing!
In 2012, NASA moved the space shuttle Endeavour through the streets of Los Angeles to the California Science Center.
In 2012, the space shuttle Endeavor escaped its zoo enclosure and run amok through the streets of Los Angeles during a parade. Hundreds were injured and fourteen were killed, and unfortunately NASA had to put Endeavor down
I think if you try to wiggle out of getting your dog vaccinated for rabies due to your own anti-vax beliefs, you should be forced to watch footage of a dog succumbing to rabies and the pathological process of taking brain tissue from a suspected canine rabies victim. I really think treating these people with kid gloves is not working and they need to viscerally see what the consequences of their actions can be.
Rabies is one of the scariest and saddest diseases that an animal (or person!) can contract and many countries have already eliminated it. I think it’s easier for people from suburban areas who have not witnessed sick wildlife to delude themselves into thinking their pets don’t need the rabies vaccine or that the virus is rarer than it is.
Rabies is a disease so terrifyingly fatal that it is the only infectious disease I know of where, if you have been infected, you WILL be given the vaccine, even if you are deathly allergic to it- because we can TREAT anaphylaxis, but unvaccinated Rabies WILL kill you.
And not only will it kill you, BEFORE it kills you, once it reaches your brain, it will GIVE YOU A PHOBIA IF WATER. Do you know HOW INSANE THAT IS, that a VIRAL ORGANISM CAN *MAKE YOU DEATHLY AFRAID OF DRINKING*? I have phobias. Phobias are not fears. Phobias are your entire fight or flight response taking the reins of your body to keep you away from a thing. You can’t THINK THROUGH A PHOBIA.
And once you show symptoms, it’s over. You get that? You WILL NEED TREATMENT FOR IT BEFORE YOU EVEN KNOW IF YOU HAVE IT.
I don’t believe in fearmongering, so for that reason I am not exaggerating. YOU WILL NOT KNOW IF YOUR YOUR PET HAS CONTRACTED RABIES UNTIL IT IS ALREADY TOO LATE.
And the only way to stop it from spreading further is to kill the animal transmitting it, vaccinate anything that can contract it, and vaccinate anyone who’s been exposed to it.
Not a lot of shit scares me. Rabies scares the FUCK out of me. Rabies is as close as I can imagine getting to a real-life zombie virus, except maybe Creutzfeldt–Jakob’s disease, which is effectively indestructible to the point where medical equipment used to treat it must be destroyed, and might barely be slightly less frightening only because it’s harder to contract.
There is no terrifying vaccine conspiracy you can invent or imagine that is worse than the reality of rabies.
That is true of many diseases, but especially true of rabies.
Vaccinate your FUCKING pets
an absolute fuckton of people at pride rn
record turnout for sure. here's some pics i stole from facebook:
the tail end of the crowd only started marching around the time the first part got to the end goal. i can't stress how fucking massive the crowd was. the perfect example of "they can't arrest all of us"; the police didn't even try. no incidents, but we all had an awesome day. 🥰🥰🥰
pour one out for the guy who just spilled his drink
situation worse
why bother caring about the environment when 1. It’s so obviously a lost cause and 2. There’s definitely going to be a nuclear war?
And what are you doing about it Anon? Learn about ecological restoration or get out of my way.
If you read ecology books printed in the 70s and 80s, they were absolutely convinced that whales and tigers would not survive the century. There's a whole plot in Star Trek about how whales are extinct actually. Here in Argentina, we were sure that yaguaretés would have gone extinct. It was thought that rainforests would be forever lost, because there was no way that such complex ecosystems would be restored.
Now, you can go to Península Valdés and find that the whale population there is growing year after year, people can see them from their windows. In Iberá, where yaguaretés were extinct for over 70 years, there's now a population of 35 and growing, after being reintroduced just five years ago. As for rainforests?
We've becoming very, very good on restoring them. Natural environments, when given space and time to heal, can return to that they were. And after all, all natural enviroments are managed by human societies. It is up to us to implement a good management, un buen gobierno.
I firmly believe our children and grandchildren will see a restoration of Earth like never before.
Millions of people are working on this. You can learn about it, perhaps even become one of them. Or be a pointless doomer in my ask box. Your choice.
if there are people who care, it's never a lost cause. at one point, kākāpō, a nocturnal flightless parrot species from aotearoa, were thought to be entirely extinct for decades. until 1977, where booming calls from males were heard on the small island of whenua hou. now, thanks to people who care so much they dedicated their lives to caring, kākāpō numbers are close to 300. despite the setbacks. despite the small gene pool causing infertility and health problems. people cared so fucking much that they survived. this is one of COUNTLESS, countless similar stories. I'm studying ecology so that I can go into conservation and all around me, every day, I see people who care enough to put years of their lives into learning about and solving environmental problems. I don't know man. hope isn't just some nebulous thing. it's tangible if you do something with it.
Tim Wong saw the decline of the pipeline swallowtail butterfly, and dedicated himself to providing habitat and raising babies, and it worked.
Spix's Macaws were extinct in the wild for 70 years, and now captive breeding and conservation groups have reintroduced a small population (with more on the way) and there are babies being successfully raised in the wild again.
And what else is there, but hope? We exist for the grace of hope. Those who have lost all hope don't stay here. If you are here to send an ask like this, it is not because you have given up, it's that you are hoping someone will show you that that hope is worth having.
It is!! It always is!!
There will be good things and if you cannot find them, make them! The time will pass anyway, you can choose what to do with it, and so many, many people are choosing to try to help.
The Lord Howe Island rodent eradication project never fails to make me cry, it’s so beautiful.
The population of an entire island working together to eradicate every last rat and mouse to save the native bird populations. They had to trap a bunch of the birds and keep them in captivity so they wouldn’t be hurt by the rodenticides, and released them after the rodents were gone. Normal residents helped by phoning in tips whenever they saw rodents. And they did it. Lord Howe Island, last I read, remains rodent free, and the native bird populations are rebounding!
Acid rain and the hole in the ozone layer, both of which were terrifying specters of my childhood, have been largely dealt with. Ecosystems devastated by acid rain are also recovering.
We are making a difference!
Dear, sweet, Littlefoot, do you remember the way to the Great Valley? I guess so. But why do I have to know if you’re going to be with me? I’ll be with you. Even if you can’t see me. What do you mean I can’t see you? I can always see you.

#Children’s media used to be about making you feel the entire depth and breadth of the human emotional spectrum#All while your 7 y/o brain struggled to make sense of if all. I felt like I wasn’t supposed to ask but what exactly was the “incredible power” that made everybody want to keep the One Ring?
Like yeah I get it, Sauron whispers in your ear and offers you everything you ever wanted while tormenting you with fear but like. Practically speaking all it seemed to DO was turn you invisible and slow your roll.
And there’s still castles and fortresses and locked doors and shit. It takes you 2 years to walk anywhere. Immortal snail type situation.
Did they forget they had a wizard
I've been rereading recently and can answer this. If your will is strong enough, it basically gives you power over other people - especially the people wearing the other rings that Sauron made (excluding the ones for the elves that he didn't get to mix a little of himself in).
I have not read all the Deep Lore, so there may be more to it, but Sauron's whole thing is deception/illusion and control. Mind games. So the power he put into the ring is illusion (invisibility) and mind control.
So when Galadriel says 'all shall love me and despair' it's because if she took the ring's power she'd mean to do good and beautiful things, and she would make people love her, but they would be completely under her control, which sucks.
Plus, if you already have power, it would augment your own with the power of Sauron, like a thing you can tap into, and that is a powerful thing to tap into. Too powerful, really.
But the key power of the ring is a) mind control, and b) Sauron's control over the wielder, because few, if anyone, could survive wearing it uncorrupted. Most would, like Gollum and the Ring Wraiths, instead become shadows of their former selves in service to him.
It's a trap, basically.
That seems like a hilarious trap actually
Sauron: Hey take my evil ring
Person: No absolutely not
Sauron: It’ll give you magic power to control people
Person: Wait really?
Sauron: Well in all honesty it only works if you have incredible force of will, like you are totally 100% firm in your intent and no amount of worldly temptation for power or glory can persuaded
Sauron: Otherwise it just turns you into a dehydrated liquorice twist with asthma
Person: ….
Person: Well I don’t think I’m the sort of person who would compromise themself in exchange for power, so that actually seems like a pretty sweet deal
@ohhgingersnaps I WOULD LIKE TO WATCH THAT MOVIE
