I swear to god theyâre so dramatic. Even in art history they read into what an apple or fly means like BICH maybe theyâre just in the painting chilling. Y DOES IT NEED A MEANING
Yo, makes me laugh that you say this. Because youâre actually right
At the time artists started painting still life (early renaissance), painters didnât bother with meanings at all. It was a technical exercise. Seeing how good their techniques were
But painting is expensive as fuck and you gotta pay for pigments and shit, so you had to be able to sell your shitty still life, to the people who pay for your pigments and shit. But they didnât want still life paintings, because it was⌠just foodâŚ.. They wanted Jesus and bible scenes and such. Not apples and shit. Because rich people loved religion. And were pretentious as fuck. Why have an apple painting at home when you can have men freaking out over zombie Jesus
So artists were like ok, see, you donât get it. The apple refers to the original sin, and all the fruits represent your wealth and such. But the skullâs there to remind you that your wealth doesnât matter, youâll die someday anyway
Because that was a popular thing at the time, being rich but having symbolic stuff that remind you that youâll die someday despite being rich. Rich people were weird. And pretentious
So painters BULLSHITTED all that symbolic stuff around the things they put in their still life paintings to make the boring painting exercises appealing to the gullible (and pretentious) rich people that commissioned them. And rich people gobbled it aaaalllllll up
And thatâs how we still have still life paintings from most famous renaissance artists today and that theyâre in such good condition, because still life paintings became THE shit amongst rich people and they bought them and kept them at home. Instead of remaining stuck in a dusty, shitty painting workshop, to be forgotten beneath tons of other stuff and rot
And there was this whole lexicon and symbolism dictionary created around still life paintings at the time, like each object was meant to represent something and there began to be conventions and stuff
But they only ever were technical painting exercises
It never was that deep
I still think itâs hilarious that the reason nobody ever figures out Supermanâs secret identity or where he lives or what he does when heâs not saving the planet, is because he already told them all the Kryptonian stuff that canât be tied to any of his human friends or family. I guarantee you the in-universe wikipedia article on Superman lists his name as Kal-El and the âpersonal lifeâ section says that he lives full-time at his private fortress of solitude at the north pole. Nobody in the world looks at Clark Kent and thinks âoh my god, maybe heâs superman!â for the same reason nobody ever starts to suspect that their coworker who looks KINDA like Barack Obama is actually secretly Barack Obama â They know who Barack Obama is and know what he does and they know their coworker Greg is Greg and not Barack Obama. They have no reason to assume Barack Obama secretly moonlights as Greg The IT Guy at their workplace even though theyâve never seen Greg and Obama in the same place. At best, âGreg is secretly Obamaâ would be a running joke at the office, and the same is true at the Daily Planet. âKal-El of Krypton, who lives in a CRYSTAL PALACE at the NORTH POLE and whose dayjob is SUPERMAN, sometimes puts on a suit and pretends to be a clumsy reporter and lives in a one-bedroom walkup in Metropolisâ is a ridiculous concept to anyone who doesnât already know itâs true

I love the idea of Clark Kent turning up to every office Halloween party in an ill-fitting Superman costume from Target.
Still one of my favorite clips from Superman: The Animated Series.
This has gotten bigger since I last saw it ant thatâs FANTASTIC
Henry Cavill literally once stood in Time Square, in a superman t-shirt, under a giant poster of himself and no one recognised him, even though he was actively trying to be recognised.
Iâve never seen this post but it just became my favorite post on the internet
Wanna know the kicker?
In the first chapter of JLAâs âDivided We Fall Arcâ both Clark and Bruce reveal their civilian identities to the rest of the League. This is post âTower of Babelâ where nobody but Clark still trusts Batman, and in order to start building trust again, Clark urges Bruce to unmask himself to the rest of the team because Bruce obviously knows who everyone else is. Bruce agrees on one condition, Clark has to âunmaskâ himself as well.
When the big reveal goes down, Kyle Rayner says it best re: Clark being Superman: âHe doesnâtâŚwear a mask. I never evenâŚthought he had aâŚday jobâŚâ
Thatâs right, the canon reason why nobody makes the connection between Superman and Clark Kent is because nobody thinks that Superman HAS a civilian identity.
Also, with a really good actor, Clark Kenting is entirely possible, as Christopher Reeve demonstrates in the 1978 Superman film.
There was actually a story where a scientist at Lexcorp developed a computer program to analyse all available evidence and work out who Superman is
It figured out he was ClarkâŚand Lex fired the scientist for wasting company resources because he COULDNâT BELIEVE that Superman would ever âPretendâ to be human because it would mean pretending to be âWeakâ
90% of Supermanâs disguise is everyone else doing the work for him
the best secret identity of all.

I just looked this up and it turned out it was about a production of âcat on a hot tin roofâ, a play which famously features a closeted gay lead character. a member of the audience was catcalling female actresses and shouting homophobic abuse when actor john lacy, who played the character big daddy, paused his performance and called him out. the heckler replied âwhat are you going to do about it?â to which lacy responded by leaping down into the audience and knocking him to the ground.
#its what tennessee williams would have wanted
speaking of misogyny
let me tell you guys something that ACTUALLY happened in my screenwriting class last week
one of the female writers in our class is writing a feature about this gang of teenage girls who sort of become vigilantes and murder men who harass women (thatâs a shitty logline of it but itâs actually fucking awesome and highly stylized and over-exaggerated like tarantino in a good way bc i fucking hate tarantino). ANYWAY their first kill is this guy named taylor. taylor is one of the girlâs boyfriends. it is heavily implied and the writer confirmed that he abuses and rapes her. not explicitly seen, but she has bruises, there are scenes implying it etc.
so. she wrote the part where they kill taylor. and one of my professorâs comments was about how he felt like he didnât hate taylor enough.
to which me and my female friend were like um what?? we hate him. he fucking raped and abused her. wE HATE HIM. HE IS A HORRIBLE PERSON.
and my prof was like well yeah i hate him but i donât HATE hate him. and we argued about it. so he took a poll of who hated taylor. ALL of the girls in the class raised their hands. none of the boys did. when he asked who didnât hate taylor all of the men raised their hands. and me and my friend started laughing because of COURSE they did.
and my prof was like why are you laughing and the writer was like âi think theyâre laughing at the gender difference in that answerâ and my prof was like âwell, from my male perspective, i donât think iâm being sexistâ
WHAT.
first of all did you hear that sentence at ALL do you understand how paradoxical it is?????
second of all, no. just no.
and then my prof went on to say âi feel like we need to see taylor be horrible. like bad solution, he kicks a dogâ
evidently a man can abuse and rape a girl and not be hated, but if he kicks a dog then heâs PURE EVIL
and THAT is exactly whatâs wrong with our society
apparently i found a canon trans lady in the battle maison
donât black belt women exist tho
black belts are an all-male trainer class within the game.
OH duh. right. i took this complete out of context. itâs pokemon.
Reasons I love X and Y
This is just a mis-translation you fuck heads
I hate to break your bubble, but no, itâs not. In Japanese, she says
ĺĺš´ĺăŻăŤăŠăăăă ăŁăăŽăŤĺťĺŚăŽĺăŁăŚăšă˛ăźăăďź
which literally means âTo think I was a Black Belt just half a year ago. Modern medicine sure is amazing!â
as an extra bonus, Black Belts are referred to in Japanese as ăŤăŠăăă, which means âkarate kingâ and is explicitly male.
tl;dr keep your stupid transphobic assumptions to yourself, moron
OH LOOK MY FAVORITE POST

I love her
In case you missed it, hereâs the moment when three trans women, played by three out trans actresses, casually chatting over lunch, appeared on a prime-time drama on the single biggest television network in the U.S.
Doubt (CBS) was revolutionary in having a trans lead, played by Laverne Cox, but they also had a trans woman in the writerâs room (Imogen Binnie), and trans actors, like myself and Angelica Ross in the scene above, and Alexandra Grey in the following episode (who gives a devastating and powerful must-see performance).
This level of attentiveness was largely due to the creators/showrunners, Joan Rater & Tony Phelan, having a trans son, the actor Tom Phelan. For Joan & Tony, trans people werenât âotherâ, they werenât punchlines, they didnât exist just as metaphors, or props to trigger male anxieties. Theyâre real people, whole and complicated people with rich lives that canât be reduced to the single facet âtransâ.
Three friends having lunch and talking over boy trouble, in public, in daylight. This is how we come out of the shadows.
RIP Doubt;Â long live the team behind it.
Last month a study on the human brain showed that we were wrong: brain structure is not gender-specific.
If any of my followers believes that âbrain sexâ is a rigid and well defined category check this out
I actually did a study on this in my freshman year of university!
I had to give a ten minute presentation on gender and a) how itâs different from sex, and b) whether or not thereâs such thing as a âmaleâ and âfemaleâ brain.
I found COUNTLESS studies supporting the idea that the brain itself is unisex- there is very little, if any, difference between âmaleâ and âfemaleâ brains, with one exception. Iâm by no means a neuroscientist but this is what I understood from this particular article: thereâs this tiny part of the hypothalamus (a small part of the brain) that has neutrons in it, and the number of neutrons varies. HOWEVER, when the brains of cis men and women and trans men and women (who had not taken hormones for years prior to the time of death) were studied, it was found that the cis men and trans men had almost identical average neutron counts, and the cis women and trans women had almost identical average neutron counts. So if youâre DMAB but realize at some point that youâre a trans woman, as far as your brain is concerned, you ARE a woman! The same goes for DFAB trans men (intersex/nonbinary individuals werenât studied, unfortunately).
TLDR; Your brain doesnât care what you were âborn asâ, only what you really are!
Iâm currently reading a fantastic book that goes through and debunks old studies that âfind evidenceâ to support gender roles. SPOILER ALERT: they were all poorly done studies and their evidence is unsupported bullshit.
This incredibly pure and importantÂ
