This plot-line of Thorin succumbing to the dragon-sickness and vanquishing it fascinates me so. It’s just SO brilliantly executed, both by PJ and by Richard, and worlds different and more complex and emotionally deeper than the primitive moralistic ‘Kids, greed is bad’ approach PJ, Philippa & Fran could have so easily opted for, if, well - if they weren’t those wonderfully skilled filmmakers they are. Bloody hell, i’m still in awe.
