Challenge 12: Reflection Runway

“Metamorphosis”

My outfit for this challenge represents the metamorphosis of a caterpillar into a butterfly. I thought this motif decently represented my time in this contest.

In the beginning, I was shy and afraid of talking to new people online. I was not sure my outfits would live up to the standards set by the contestants before me. Even my application outfit appeared as guarded as I was. The caterpillar is my representation of this stage; it is timid and hasn't lived up to its fullest yet.

Eventually, I was able to warm up to everyone on the server, became more social, and made a lot of really great friends. I represented this version of me as a butterfly. I used warm colors in this outfit as a nod to the several times I created an outfit with a fire motif. I chose to use my main, clear dapple dualies, to represent her butterfly wings. Much like the butterfly, it took a while for me to get here, but I got here eventually. Now I am confident in my outfits and a social butterfly on the server.

Challenge 11: Mythological Madness

“Pele, Hawaiian Goddess of Volcanoes”

Pele is the goddess of volcanoes and fire and the creator of the Hawaiian Islands. Otherwise known as Pelehonuamea, “She who shapes the sacred land,” this deity represents both destruction and creation. She is one of the most powerful and important deities in native Hawaiian mythology, with extensive stories surrounding her in the form of chants.

In folklore, Pele resides at the summit of Kīlauea, within Halema‘uma‘u Crater. She occasionally travels throughout the islands, appearing to mankind as a beautiful young woman, or as an old woman, often dressed in red. She tests an individual's character by asking for food or for a ride. Those who are greedy and unkind to her are punished by having their homes or crops destroyed in the next eruption. Residents of the islands show their respect to the deity by placing offerings like flowers, money, and food outside their homes in an attempt to appease her during an eruption.

Challenge 10: Nintendojo “Team Skull”

"Team Skull, represent! We can't pay the rent! Had a lot of fun, but our youth was misspent!" 

Throughout my entire life, I have always loved the Pokemon franchise; they are my favorite games. Growing up, my closest friends have been friends that I could play Pokemon with. Similarly, I've come to make many friends through playing Splatoon. This is why I decided to represent the Pokemon franchise with my outfit. 

I chose Team Skull because, unlike the other villainous teams in the series, the group is known to highly value kinship - many of the members are close friends and treat each other as siblings. They aren't very good at being bad, and are mostly just a lovable group of dorks who love rapping and each other. If I had the option to, I would join Team Skull 10/10.

Challenge 9: Worthy Warriors “Violet Grin, Leader of the Zapfists”

War has plagued the nation for nearly two centuries. The once pristine and glorious city of Inkopolis has been stripped of all its resources and steadily demolished by chaos. Amidst the fire, Violet Grin was born, and the back alleys of the city became her home. Fierce, crafty, and bloodthirsty, she never struggled to survive; she could bend anarchy to her will. 

Cephalopods of similar nature gravitated toward Violet Grin. She used these connections to devise her infamous clan of bandits: the Zapfists. They are the wealthiest in the entirety of the concrete jungle, having confiscated everything of value, and now roam the corridors hunting for sport. None enjoy the game more than Violet Grin. Residents, innocent and shady characters alike, all fear an encounter with the gang. The sight of their notorious satin jackets clears streets instantly, for none want to be the next target. It is said that Violet Grin will remove her facemask to feel closer to her victims as she glowers over them, poised for the kill. Those unfortunate enough to come face-to-face with the leader herself, in their final moments, understand why they call her Violet Grin.

Challenge 8: Reconciliatory Return - Celebrity Couple with Boblerette "Huge promises and romance! Dolphina and Stretch did what?"

Dolphina Nosey and Stretch Calamarino sure have been working on a lot of the same movies together, haven't they? Well, this intrepid reporter has definitive proof that the director known for his macabre and dark comedy movies and the actress that sports a majority of the leading roles in his movies are involved in an intimate romantic relationship! It's been reported that the two first started showing signs of dating when, after a long day of filming, Stretch picked up a nearby splattershot and started shooting Dolphina, who played along, resulting in a full turf war match being had by just the two of them! Although no concrete photographic proof exists of this encounter, it is very obvious that they are dating. One can see them spending almost all of their time together, even off set!

This of course raises many important questions about Calamarino's casting decisions. When asked directly about his biases towards casting Nosey in his movies, the director refused to comment, though later on his social media pages he wrote "I cast all my movies equally, and make everyone audition for any roles just like any other actor." Whether or not his love life has bearing on his career, it's clear from any perspective that the love between these two makes them a powerful film making duo! Next Top Cephalopod

Challenge 7: Astro Appeal “Mae”

According to ancient Inkling mythology, Taurus is associated with a god in one of his numerous amorous adventures. The god fell in love with the legendary Inkling princess, Mae. The god, however, had already taken a wife. His love for Mae was so strong that he could not risk being discovered by his wife, so he transformed Mae into the Sacred Bull and hid her among the stars. When Taurus is covered by the Sun during the spring equinox, it is said that Mae has left the sky to visit the god for yet another passionate affair, representing the renewal of life in spring.  Next Top Cephalopod
